Just got the Flightscope Mevo

I just got one for Christmas for me and my 14 year old son to share. He's a pretty solid golfer for his age, shot in the 70's 9 times this year and has his handicap down to a 9.5. We live in Idaho, so typically we might not hit balls more than once or twice between November and February because it's cold and often there is snow on the ground. My handicap looks like a bell curve, with lower scores in the summers and higher scores after the winter when we're rusty. I'll often shoot in the 90's the first few rounds after winter, and end up shooting mid-70's after the rust wears off. My hope is to start out much stronger, and get the handicap down this year as a result since I hopefully won't post a bunch of high scores that bump off my lower scores early in the season.

I'm impressed with it so far. Here's our setup:

Mevo 4.0' behind the ball

Net about 7-8' in front of the ball so that we don't hit pitches over the net. I might experiment and see if it affects the carry distance

No fluorescent lights (I have read that they can affect the accuracy, luckily we have four incandescent lights, and I put 100 watt bulbs in them so the garage is well-lit)

Have it set to indoor. I tried the pitching setting, but it didn't work, even for pitching (20 yard pitches showed about 2-4 yards or carry)

Haven't tried the stickers yet because I'm working on consistency, and looking at carry and not spin (although I will try them to see if the distance changes)

I think it's a great tool if you use it right. My son is a typical kid, he wants to try to see how far he can hit it. I like to use it to dial in my 100 yard and in game. I'll try to have a goal to hit a certain number of balls within a certain distance, and then I know I'm getting repeatable results from my swing. I know it is not 100% accurate, but either is the swing of a typical golfer. For example today I used it to try to hit 50 yard shots using my typical 50 yard club and swing, and I had one that I could tell was fat (#2 was really short). The other five were pretty close, though, and probably more consistent due to how much I've been using it over the last week. I know what kind of swing it takes me on the course to hit a 50 yard shot, and the Mevo seems right on:

shot 1 - 50.1

shot 2 - 38.9

shot 3 - 53.9

shot 4 - 51.8

shot 5 - 52.9

shot 6 - 49.8

The Mevo is helping me realize I should probably change my strategy and hit the shot I hit most consistently for the distance rather than try to hit a certain club a certain distance. For example, if I can hit a full swing sand wedge 95-100 yards and usually use that club for that distance but the results are less consistent, and I can take a 60% gap wedge that goes about the same distance but has a much smaller disparity in the distances, then I think I'll start to hit that shot when I have 100 yards and not my 'old' shot. I definitely hit the less than full swings much more solidly and consistently than when I try to hit one with a fuller swing. Granted, if you have to carry over something and need a higher shot, you still have that option.

I haven't hit much more than a 7 iron in my garage, because at this point I'm working more on the short game and trying to hone in my swing to find that right spot to hit them more consistently.

I really like this thing, and although it's a cheap-ish launch monitor and doesn't tell you the side spin or have some of the bells and whistles of the higher cost monitors, I'm impressed with how consistent it seems when I I'm swinging well. It's also amazing how much our swings can vary, and is helping me understand why my putt distance can vary so much with a shot from a consistent yardage. Our swings (typical golfer) aren't as repeatable as most of us would like them to be. When you hit a shot that is not solid, you know it and the Mevo confirms it.

I'd definitely recommend it and am curious how others feel about it or what their thoughts are and if you like it/don't like it.

Just took my Mevo out today to the range for the first time. I actually had it listed to sell and then changed my mind. Glad I kept it.

Found the distances that the Mevo read were spot on to where the ball was actually landing. I also really liked how it read out loud the distances so I didn’t have to stop and try to see the screen in the glare of the sun.

Next I’m taking it to the inside range to see if the speed, spin, and launch angle numbers are accurate.
