Mavrik Love

When I saw the pictures of the Mavrik, I was VERY unimpressed. The Marvik name sounded stupid and ironic since the "tech" as in jailbreak and flash face was already out and not revolutionary. I figured it's a new year, so every manufacturer needs to pump out a new club and pretend it's the best thing ever. Our club had a few demo drivers and today I took one out on the course for a test drive just for the sake of trying it out. Very, very unenthusiastic. One hit and WOW! I'm sold. First of all, it looks great in the address position. Second, the ball rockets off the face. Third, it feels and sounds GREAT! (Unlike the Epic Flash which is rock hard and sounds like CLANK.) The Mavrik is stupid easy to hit. It almost feels like I'm cheating. Maybe the name makes sense after all....

Bye, bye Epic SZ. You've been a good friend for years, but I have a new love.

You had the original Epic SZ? I do, too. I think it's one of the best heads possibly ever made... what made this one better?

Hit one yesterday at worldwide golf shops. Very very easy to hit and fun

I have a golf buddy who has gamed the same driver for 6-7 years... Titliest D3, I think (no idea what year). He's been trying for 2 seasons to kick it out of the bag... he hit the MAVRIK for one day and has one ordered... It's definitely on my to try list this season.

I agree with you. The Epic SZ still rocks. I skipped the Rogue and Epic Flash and was planning on skipping the Mavrik too. However, I found the Mavrik longer, easier to hit, and more forgiving. It just went long and straight. I don't know what else to say.

There is one other point I would like to emphasize. Feel is super important to me. It's just got to feel good or I have no interest. Epic Flash didn't feel good to me. It felt hard and the sound was like nails on a chalkboard. Epic SZ feels awesome. Mavrik feels awesome too.

Couldn't get along with the original Epic SZ. Skipped the Rogue but absolutely LOVE my Epic Flash SZ.

Sound may be a little annoying but I'm a results oriented kinda guy and I hit it longer AND straighter than my beloved Cally Fusion.

I hit the Cobra L4V 10(?) years ago when ROBOTOPTI(?) was stumping for them and I've never hit anything louder than that one. LMAO

I would certainly like a slightly better sounding driver than my EFSZ but if all the Mavrik does is sound a bit better I'll end up passing.

What lofts were the epic and now mav? Mav SZ or just a std head?

They had them at our club for demo purposes. I don't know how. It's not available at retail yet. I liked it so much I wanted to keep the demo club, but sadly I had to give it back.

My old Epic SZ is a 9 degree, but I have it set up at 10 degrees. The Mav I tested was a 10.5 degree regular version.

Depending on how well you know your staffer at your local store or staffer at your club you can usually get a lot of stuff ordered early pre release.

I hit the mavrik and the feel off the face felt very different then any other driver i've hit. It almost felt soft to me, not a bad feeling just different.

Shiels liked the regular version best as well. Glad to hear they fixed the sound issue. Anyone that "didn't mind" the sound of Epic Flash needs to turn up their hearing aids. That thing performed but sounded like an aluminum bat.

ahh brings me to another "Tour Issue" advantage I played one all last season that was muted, no topline and high CT. Going to be hard to get a hold of a tour issue version of the Mavrik without spending 1k which I will no longer do so the reg version it will be so it is good the sound thing has been fixed.

I hope to love the Mavrik Max. The original Epic was not a good fit, and I have not tried the Rogue or Epic Flash. Claims of this being the most forgiving Callaway driver will compete with my Fusion and Original One for a spot in the bag. Also does not hurt that I have a plethora of shafts to test with.

I'm reading a lot of good things about the Mavrik drivers. Anybody had a chance to hit the fairway woods yet?

Edit: Had kind of decided to keep my bag unchanged but I'm reading so many good things about Mavrik that maybe it's time to get fitted and replace my ancient R11S driver and 5wood.

Ditto. Pre-order put in for the Mavrik Max at 45", so if it comes in a little light, some hot melt can be added.

Got a ship notice on my Mavrik driver, 3w, and 5w. Should be able to put them through their paces - at least in my hitting bay - this week. Previous driver is a Rogue Draw and EF 3w and 5w.

Any thoughts on the stock shafts - looks like PX Riptide and Aldila Rogue White 130 will be the main offerings. Is the Aldila shaft more of a premium product?

Interesting question. I have always gotten along with Aldila shafts, I'm curious what others think of the shaft options.

Standard Mavrik on order with the Rogue White 60x. Can’t beat offloading gear with the bonus for more than I could sell it outright.

 

Really like the Sim Max and will likely grab one with some other gear I have to trade in while the bonus is still going, but want to try the Cally first.
