The best Polarized Aviators for golf

I have a pair of polarized Ray Ban classic aviators and while the shape is my favourite, they're just too heavy when leaning forward throughout the round. I'm constantly having to adjust them.

Have you tried a great pair of polarized classic aviators on the golf course? I know Miguel wears the MJ Mavericks but they're a little round for my liking. I want something classic in shape.

Polarized optics distort your sense of distance, and aren’t normally recommended for activities where depth perception is important.

Yep, polarized lenses may affect depth perception for about 50% of people. For this reason, most golf and baseball sunglasses are not polarized. However in these sports, glare is typically not the problem so much as it is brightness from direct sunlight so, a brown or copper lenses provides the best contrast against a green or blue backdrop like the environment found on a golf course or baseball field.

^^^this to a degree. I only own polarized glasses. Smith makes some aviators.and I can tell you their brown, bronze and copper are choice for golf.

 

Not sure if you can get their chromapop in aviators, but those are the lightest weight lenses you'll find and absolutely.fantastic. I prefer them to their glass lenses but have both, depends upon the style and your wants.

Good to know. I wasn't aware about the depth perception and polarized lenses, so thanks for the heads up. That's great though as it broadens the search and drops the price a little bit.

That may be true, but all Maui Jim sunglasses are poarized and a bunch of people on here swear by then. .... maybe that’s why I miss so many putts! Oh but crap: I miss them on cloudy days without my MJs too. ?‍♂️??

Try REKS; they make a variety of frames and lenses, including non-polarized golf-specific lenses. After using Oakleys for many years, I switched to REKS this past summer and couldn't be happier. Great quality, great customer service, and great prices. I got two pair for a little less than what ONE pair of prescription Oakleys would have cost me, and have since added a third pair. Great product, great value.

Any Oakley model with The Golf Prizm lense are my choice, good in low light conditions also

Used to work in optical - I use Maui Jim for polarized - The most expensive but 100% worth it IMO

The Nike Golf or Baseball lenses are popular as well. I personally prefer a standard grey lens - I don't notice any of the distance issues others mentioned with polarized lenses

It really depends on the quality of lens and polarization. Cheaper glasses to alter the depth perception negatively, but studies show that higher quality polarized glasses can sharpen depth perception. The top polarized lens are made by Revo, Oakley, Maui Jim and Costa Del Mar. You look at most reviews and those are the four that are usually at the top of the lists. If you want to get really fancy, then Oliver Peoples (Victory 55 Cognac) has great polarization as well. Great sunglasses and even more so if you were fan of Burn Notice (TV Show).

I'm into fishing and require great polarization to be able to sight fish. I've worn cheaper sunglasses where I see a fish and I cast it to that spot just to see that I'm well short of my target, which is a problem I never had with Maui Jims or Costa Del Mars. There are a number of baseball players that use Oakley Flak Jackets or similar types of frames with polarized lenses with no issues. Ichiro Suzuki is a 7 times Gold Glove outfielder and is known for wearing Oakleys. I usually play with my Callaway golf glasses and they are great. One day I tried to play with my polarized Oakley glasses. I was was shanking and hitting the ball like a newbie; this is when I figured out that polarized lens affect my depth perception.

I'm in the optical industry...polarization definitely helps with golf and does not affect depth perception at all as long as you buy the right stuff. Maui, Costa, Kaenon are good places to start. There are great prescription polarized as well. I actually wear progressive RX design on the course with unbelievable success. I prefer brown/amber color to enhance the green colors. I can see differences in texture and it helps when approaching greens.....
