Houston Astros - Cheaters

Thanks for the clarification. If that is indeed the case, it seems like a more substantial punishment might be warranted.

Not only that, he was warned about it after the Apple Watch incident and gave "total assurances that nothing of the sort would happen again"

mlb is a complete joke from top to bottom ... great game ... beautiful game ... but mlb has proven it has no interest in maintaining any semblance of integrity, on any level, for any aspect ... from the hof voting to the umpires wanting to "interpret" the strike zone to the way players turned a blind eye towards steroid use on their own teams (along with team owners turning a blind eye) to the way former steroid users are allowed in the game to the way the astros/probably red sox have not been punished, it is an absolute joke ...

L.A. City Council to Vote on Asking MLB to Award Championship Trophies to DodgersI really hope this doesn't work out how the City Council would like it to. Dodgers did not win those titles, please do not "award" them to the Dodgers even if stripped. I don't want the title this way.

Participation trophy? Good grief!!!!! This is absolutely stupid. Even with sign stealing there is absolutely no guarantee the Dodgers would have won either World Series. I sincerely doubt the Dodgers would have beaten the Red Sox anyway. That said, sign stealing has been going on for decades, over 100 years. I have no issue with someone attempting to steal a sign the 3rd base coach is flashing the hitter and base runners. I have no issue with a runner on second base trying to steal a sign by watching the catcher. Signs are changed quickly and in a variety of ways. Simply changing the indicator sign or the sequence when an indicator is given will do this. What I have a problem with is using high tech means of stealing a sign. The human element has always been a part of the game and should still be. Using high resolution cameras and video replay just has a bad vibe to it. This whole "any means to an end" philosophy really needs to end.

I agree 100%. It is absolutely the use of technology that took this from a competitive advantage to cheating.

On to today's headlines, supposedly players from the Astros were also using electronic devices attached to their bodies so they can feel a vibration or buzz of some sort. If this is true, these players need to now be suspended indefinitely immediately. Far worse that PED'ss IMO. See below.https://www.foxnews.com/sports/astros-players-twitter-frenzy-separate-cheating-allegations

Think there would be any merit to gamblers who lost money on the playoffs involving the Astros suing MLB?

Just curious if there would be any legal standing for this

I've been a Dodgers fan since the mid 1970s. Back when Steve Garvey was MVP, Ron Cey aka the Penguin, Burt Hooten, Reggie Smith, Fernando Valenzuela, Rick Monday days. The 1977, 1978 & 1981 World Series between the Dodgers and Yankees bring back fond childhood memories. As a kid I used to listen to every Dodgers game on the radio. Oh the days of the 1975 & 76 Cinci Reds. And that special world series between the Red Sox and Reds was something to behold. Those days and the days before were the glory days of baseball. I as well as so many other fans feel SO CHEATED by this. This is beyond steroids and it's what Dodger pitcher Alex Wood said. AW said he'd rather face a player on roids than a player who knows what pitch is coming. We should've had another Dodger Yankees World Series, the Dodgers probably would've won the 2017 World Series, the 2018 Red Sox World Series is also suspect. And the Astros really aren't that great are they? They knew what pitches were coming and couldn't beat the Nationals. That just goes to show how special that Nationals team was. It was a wonder the Red Sox won so many games in 2018 when the year before with pretty much the same team sucked. All they really did was change managers. A cheating manager. Instead of attempting to sweep this under the rug I hope MLB goes after the players who allegedly wore devices to be tipped on pitches. I hope they receive harsh penalties like a 1-2 year ban if found guilty. I'd bet the farm Altuve bats 30 points lower next year and going forward. The Astros home record goes back to the norm and those involved receive lifetime bans.

I voted for a lifetime ban for all involved, but I’m not sure I feel quite that strongly about it, especially if it turns out to be much more prevalent than anyone wants to believe.

However I do feel strongly that Houston’s title should be stripped, but not awarded to the Dodgers, since they didn’t actually win. Simply leave the championship open in the record books for that year. History will forever know and judge the Astros organization accordingly.

I also think all World Series rings should be revoked, since that’s such a symbolic and coveted prize for the everyone. To me it’s absolutely absurd that the players—the ones who actually benefited from the cheating—are not being held accountable.

My original response to this was to strip Huston of the title, but I didn't think they needed to ban players for life. The more that comes out about this, the more convinced I am that some real old school justice maybe justified. Pete Rose was banned for life for betting on his team. He never bet against them and he never made a profit from doing so. Did gambling on games in this fashion impact the results? I can't really see how. In comparison, it's quite clear that what was going on here not only impacted games, but individual awards too. IMO this is as significant as the Black Sox scandal and probably should be dealt with as such.

If MLB is serious about putting an end to cheating in the game, make it a career ender.

Yep. Pete bet on his team to win fairly. By not vacating the title (and the league championship, Altuve's MVP, etc.), MLB has essentially said that it's okay to cheat because you still get your ring at the end of the day. Absolute disgrace to the game.

That’s why I suggested recalling the rings...to let the players feel the disgrace they’ve earned. And while it may seem harsh, let the behind-the-scenes personnel who were also given rings feel the shame of the organization(s) as well.

I've been an Astros fan since I was a kid. living somewhat near Houston we'd go to games all the time in the old Astrodome. I started liking the Yankees during Jeter's rookie season and been a fan since. It sucked and was great at the same time to see the Astros do really good these past couple of seasons. sucks they had to beat the Yankees to get there. We have the local AA team for the Astros in my city so i've seen Altuve, Bregman, Corera, Springer all come through here.

winning the world series was great. giving the recent struggles Houston just went through with Hurricane Harvey (Harvey actually made landfall about 20mins away from me - Houston got the brunt of the rainfall). it was great for the city.

I don't know what to make of this whole ordeal. it sucks to see that this was the case. they got caught and it was horrible. it was seriously stupid for AJ to say he didn't know anything about it. for crying out loud - the banging in the tunnel after a couple of pitches would annoy me and ask "wtf is that noise?". he knew all along. sucks for all parties but deserving. I thought AJ was a good manager and Lunhow was an excellent GM.

I don't think the title should be stripped but also don't think the penalties were harsh enough.

On that note, the only people I feel sorry for is the only innocent parties - the fans. The Astros fans don't deserve to have their coveted World Series title stripped from them for their teams cheating, it really sucks for the fans.

But, being a Dodgers fan, we didn't deserve to have our team lose to a cheating time. I felt the Dodgers lost that series but with every chance to win, however the Astros were just 1 game better.

I no longer feel that way. I feel cheated.

Just bumping this one back up. Astros met the media today and it was the most arrogant, weak sauce press conference I've ever heard. Hardly any remorse from the players, Altuve and Bregman with canned statements more focused on the future than apologizing for the past. Such arrogance from the owner. Basically got the vibe that they're only sorry they got caught and annoyed they have to face the music about it. An embarrassment to the game.

"I really don't think it impacted the game"

"I never said it didn't impact the game"

I also loved the question from Marly Rivera "If you said it didn't impact the game and competition, what exactly are you apologizing for?"

Mark my words; these **** are going to keep doing it. They'll just get better at hiding what they're doing. The whole lot of them should be gone forever and the championship stripped.

I can't believe that baseball still has a lifetime ban on Pete Rose and they're letting these guys off scott free!

This is another black eye on the history of baseball. My family will definitely be less interested in baseball this year.
