Mizuno is making a great wedge, both last cycle and current. Scratch is awesome if you can find what you need. Miura is prob my fav shape but very pricy. Bridgestone makes a very underrated wedge.

I just sold my 50* and T-grind 52* and 58* after I bought a pair of Cleveland RTX4 Forged wedges, which I think are JDM. I still have an MD2 54* S-grind, 56* T-grind and a 58* T-grind that I bent to 60*.

The RTX4 Forged wedges help me flight the ball lower when I want to compared to the MD2s, but I loved the feel of the MD2s, and really liked the T-grind. I sold mine on partly to make a clean break, and partly because I need to downsize my considerable collection of clubs.

That said, I think the MD2s were some of the best wedges produced, certainly since the new groove rule came into effect.

And with that, OP, the Cleveland RTX4 Forged are pretty good if you can find them. Solid rather than soft feeling, but easy to flight low and they spin a ton. I'd prefer a little more heel relief on the 58*, but they're good wedges.

This thread is like if someone said:

"Hey, I really like driver shafts that are black and white. Any favorites?"

And the replies were:

"Extra Stiff Aldila Rogue!"

"My Kuro Kage 50 Regular never let me down"

"Try out the old Graffoloy ProLite Black in Ladies flex. Worked great for me".

Ugh.

Nobody can tell the difference between forged and cast wedges in a blind test. Nobody. Ping did a study on it.Getting the right bounce and grind for you (like shaft weight and flex, and length) is all that matters in picking a wedgeThe two most popular wedges *by far* on every single professional tour (both genders, all continents) are cast - Vokey and MD4.

So, yes, shouting out forged wedges is fun, but if you want a new wedge OP concentrate on figuring out how you hit short game shots (do you create loft with stance or face? do you hit bunker shots like Seve or Spieth? do you hit chip shots like Utley or do you fly everything?) and then getting wedge that compliments that.

That is a beautiful wedge! Is this the tour model? I may be investing in a new build of CB57s, and the Gentleman who is building them for me (Chip Usher), told me I should go with the wedges as well. I currently play Vokeys, but he was convinced that I would "throw those away" after playing the Miura tours.

Do you have any experience gaming vokeys, and if so how do these compare? Shape, Bounce options, feel? Thanks!

I really liked the MD2s, but they were getting worn out. The Clevelands are different, and still have to dial them in, but I like them so far. If fresh MD2s were still being made, I may well have bought them.

BUT! there are aspects of the Clevelands I really like, such as the ease of hitting in a low-flighted shot, which was much harder with the Callaway's. Also, I got the Cleveland's longer than standard so their static weight and swing-weight are a bit different to what I am used to. I am still getting accustomed to them (I only got them a couple of weeks ago).

I played the Callaways for 4~5 years, so it's a hard parting. The Clevelands are good wedges. I tried out lots of others, and came down to the Clevelands or the Bridgestones, and went for the Clevelands because I could order them from a shop not far from my house, as opposed to a longer drive. Price was the same, and my overall impressions were the same.

I'm sure I will enjoy this as much as I enjoyed the Callaways, though perhaps for slightly different reasons.

Chip knows what he's talking about.

There are stark differences between the Vokey and Miura besides the price tag and honestly you should (somehow) try them before you spend the coin.

The answer to better golf is hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Some are very custom/expensive especially if Don White had a hand in grinding them. The 8620 (off the shelf) wedges are still very nice. Forged and shape reminds me of Cleveland wedges for the most part

Haha Chip built mine. Great guy to work with!

And yep, it's indeed the tour model.

And yeah actually, I did game Vokeys for a while. The toe on the Miuras is a bit more square than the Vokeys which is more pleasing to my eye. Both mine are pretty low bounce which is just a personal preference. Definitely a softer feel from the Miuras ... and the spin, oh the spin.

Yeah man, you definitely wouldn't be bummed on the Miuras one bit. I love mine.

I'll add to the dark side comments saying that I don't see forged as a meaningful delineation for wedges. I have played cast wedges that felt fantastic (many a Vokey, OG Cleveland 588), forged wedges that felt awful (Hogan Colonial), cast wedges that felt awful (Cleveland CG10), etc...

The grind and weighting are way, way more important than forged vs. cast construction

My few-year-old Miuras as the moment are forged, and the sand wedge (K-Grind) is awesome, extremely versatile with a very firm, meaty feel that I like. The gapper (Miura New Wedge) is kind of meh. It feels good, but not my favorite gap wedge ever. I'll vouch for Miura making a very high quality product. I do not agree with people who say they have a soft feel - it is far firmer and clickier than many other forgings, not at all a Mizuno feel. It is a unique feel that is solid and does provide the right type of feedback. If you want to feel like you're hitting a balata ball, that's not it, though.

Next wedges will be Artisan, so going forged again but that is much more about the custom build process. We will see...
