> Just got in a nice 3-aw Nike VPC set from eBay. Appears that the VPC should be a tad easier to hit than my trusty Nike VR pro combos? Looking forward to trying these VPC tomorrow. Also trying find the easiest/best way to MM PROTO this set. Any and all information on how to do that is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The black finish on The 4 iron in my set was really starting to wear so it came off really clean using a buffing wheel on our grinder. The rest of the set wasn’t so easy. Sand paper...buffing wheel...sand paper...buff. Never got it all off. Irons have kind of a black mirror polish look.

I still have to clean up the paint, but here’s a pic of my redone VPCs.

** by refinish, i really meant, strip it then repaint black (on the 3 or 4 clubs that actually need it), since parts of the black are wearing pretty noticeably. Sorry for the confusion since there is no way i replicate a PVD process at home lol. Might see if the body shop at my dealership can hook me up with a black auto paint and use the mini booth they have to have a go at it too.

Still loving them. Had a set of heads that I MM Proto-ed and then sent to Continental to build up a set with Dg Tour issue S300 AMT shafts. They are the back up to my J15 CBs.

They have this awesome feel and great, consistent performance. IMO right up there in the top 5 irons ever made!

Will definitely get some play this summer.

Would love to see pics of what you do. I am thinking about adding a Nike Vapor Speed long iron (hollow heads, filled with polymer, if that sounds familiar) at 4 iron and then VPC at 5-PW. The Vapor Speed is another iron ahead of its time. If you look at similar irons now, most have thicker top lines and more offset than the Speed.

Thanks. There are some super deals on there. I actually had already ordered a Vapor Speed 4 in very nice shape for $20. They’re cast so they hold up well. Note Dallas Golf also has the Vapor Fly in a three-iron set (long/mid) for $119 NEW for all three.

The Speed will be my first foray with either. I like that it looks more like the VPC but I’d play the Fly. Will see. I did have a set if Fly Pros briefly, but I just did not like them as well as the VPC. I’m just having fun with them. I have always wanted to try them in a shaft besides the stock DG Pro stiff (which I like, very good fit in steel for me.) Am enjoying the various graphites. I think an 85-95 gram graphite swapped into this Speed/VPC combo would be fun.

I just play a VPC gap wedge. Got it because I wanted to give Nike some love in my highly mixed bag, and prefer a forged CB set GW.  Great club.  I think it actually feels/sounds softer than my Mizunos, at least noticably on chips.  I'd have no problem gaming a set... miss Nike golf.

I still have a set in the bag...I keep wasting money trying newer, different irons and always go back to the VPC.  I have mine shafted with KBS $ taper-they feel really good and have a great flight!  I was thinking of trying to MM proto them but not sure I want to tackle that project.

I really like the sole, the leading edge relief, the size of the head...they just look (and more importantly, perform) great!  I really need to stop browsing the BST!

After way too much research, it seemed like these might be perfect. Got a 5-PW set from 2nd swing that looked pretty bad in the pics (PW has the badge removed and all the swooshes have been stripped), but they are actually in amazing shape face wise. I need to hit the range and dial them in, but so far in 3 rounds I love these irons.

Currently looking for a 4 and maybe a 3, but finding them in left has been a challenge.

Best $125 I've spent so far.

I never did find a 4, but that was still a great set. Now if only I could find a 6 KZG blade, I'd be set. 🤣

Has anyone had the finish removed to make them raw? Is that even possible?

If youre looking to have the entire finish removed, I havent seen it. If you're just looking to remove the black, I did that and many others have as well:

Removing the entire finish is possible. I dont think the badges on the back would be salvageable. You can take them to a metal working shop and they can probably do it for you. There are a ton of nasty chemicals involved that you will not want to mess with, and you will not be able to dispose of. Dont DIY it. Otherwise you end up with toxic Erin Brockovich chemicals.
