Answer = Some people want to feel better about their skill than in actuality. In other words, aside from tiring banter, I hit my weak lofted 7i as far as some people hit their strong lofted 6i. Da**, I love this game. Titleist still markets to skill but now markets to human weakness too.

I guess I just don't get why they cannot be bent? I understand it changes the bounce.

@BCC1898 "A whole new line to add 5 yards? This seems super-unnecessary."
Doesn't matter what Titleist comes up with club spec wise, people that buy those types of clubs are not hitting the ball further, they just want to believe they are. Titleist figured out profits come from feeding dreamers.

Bending strong affects offset, and that affects leading edge and camber, as well as spin and bounce. In other words = change in intended direction of the ball.

Actually, The TS Driver and Fairway launch has been successful for them. I think the TM 790's became such a phenomenon with the crazy distance that it changed the game for all iron makers. Better players now want to hit it longer even with the irons. Which was not really the case a couple years ago. If you believe in gapping your set properly, it's all EGO driven.

This set will be comparable to the Srixon Z785. Think about it. When you go in for a fitting, you are hitting a 7 iron. When the uneducated consumer walks in and is handing 5 different clubs and sees the 32 degree Srixon Z785 going 5 yards further than the 34 degree T100, the fitter has an easy sale on their hands. Now, there is a direct competitor in the forged, stronger players iron market.

I bought a new T100 set 3-P one month ago.

Why in the earth should I be angry or upset that Titleist now release a T100S? I even saw people saying that Titleist should offer a free trade in ?

C’mon people, welcome to the reality - it’s called real life and is also valid in golf life ??

I saw the article said that the long irons are bigger and they get smaller as you go down the set. They did this for the CG location. Are the regular T100 like this?

From Golfweek

The T100•S also has progressive blade lengths, meaning the long irons are slightly larger than the mid-irons, which is turn are a touch bigger than the short irons. This helps to shift the center of gravity lower in the long irons, which players usually want to help hit the ball higher, while the center of gravity is higher in the short irons, which better players often like to flight the ball lower for enhanced control.

As a T100 user I am okay with this. They didn't just strengthen the lofts either, apparently they re-positioned the internal tungsten weighting for optimal launch and adjusted the bounce as well. Not a simple as bending a T100 around.

Not everyone who targets non-traditional lofts is looking specifically to "hit it farther". My issues revolve more around gapping than anything else.

Distance-wise, I'm shorter than 4 out of every 5 guys I play with at my club. I don't care.

MY situation: Slower swing speed (driver low to mid 90s) and my angle of attack is too steep. I carry a 7 iron 150-155. Hdcp index ranges 2-4 through the year.

My lack of ball speed means my long irons fly too low, and steep delivery means my short irons have too much spin. The long iron issue is easy to understand, but the effect of my short iron issues is that breezy conditions are a killer, and even under normal conditions I always have to hit "dead hands" shots with the short irons to keep the spin and trajectory where it needs to be in order to hit the right numbers. With shorter irons, the harder I hit it... all it does is fly higher with even more spin. The trajectory is weak, they don't go any farther and I don't want those short irons spinning back. Drop and stop is all we want.

If I played a lot of rounds on courses with very firm & fast greens, I wouldn't worry quite as much about finding a solution for the short irons. However, my home club (where I play about 70 of 90 rounds per year) has soft Champion bermuda greens. They are typically quite fast, but also typically soft. Our greens react more like bent grass vs the newer ultra-dwarf bermudas that tend to be very firm and fast.

What do I need, besides lessons and practice time?: Long irons that launch easily, and short irons that launch a bit lower and don't spin as much.

Traditional lofts, like the T-100: 5-7 work good but a little short and don't gap properly to the hybrids. 8-P go nowhere.

Modern construction with strong lofts: 5-7 launch too low and don't fly the right numbers (7 can actually fly too far), 8-P tend to work pretty good

What I've found works best for me, and the conditions I usually play under: "modern" irons with the longer clubs bent weak. Bending weak also increases bounce which is good for me, being a "digger". Due to my launch conditions I also use wedges that are on the stronger side - 48, 53, 58, but I still struggle a bit with trajectory/spin on those.

From a performance perspective the best set of irons I've had (since I was younger with proper club head speed) were Titleist AP3s with the 5-8 bent 1 degree weak (26, 29, 32, 36), and 9 & P at basically stock loft (39.5, 43.5). If they didn't have so much offset (too many shots too far left) and feel like garbage they would still be in the bag. Plenty of height on the 5-7. The 8-P didn't balloon on me. Perfect gaps and I could go after the shorter clubs and get a few extra yards if I needed it.

Lofts on the modern irons now are even stronger in the long irons, so I'd be looking at more like 2 degrees weak.

At the end of the day, it's about what works for you. But to say that everyone is using these modern clubs to "hit one less" than their buddies is just plain wrong. All I want is the right trajectory, spin, and most importantly, gaps. That 150-155 7 iron is fine with me, but I need everything on either side of that to work properly. If you don't have the club head speed, sometimes you have to think a little outside the box.

I can not wait to game these. I play i200’s power spec right now. There is a need for this iron. I’m a better player but I add loft at impact and do not have time nor the patience to change my technique. Going stronger allows me to hit the numbers I want and trajectories I want. Seeing Titleist come out with an option for me is exciting!

It would be funny if they also mentioned less bounce. Meaning they just bent them. Haha

They are trying to compete with stronger lofted forged players iron. Example, srixon 785 and mp20 mmc. I believe they lost some ground in this category over the last couple years. I believe you will start seeing a lot more strong lofted forged players irons (32 degree 7 iron) from most oems. If you need a 35 degree 7 iron you should probably be in a blade anyway

Agree that t200 doesn’t have that same feel but they were designed for the better player, but that player and those who prefer the look and feel of the t100 but needed/wanted more distance or a better launch window were getting their t100s bent strong. Titleist took that feedback and created what the consumer wanted. The t100s are still weaker than the p790s so again imo t100s not a true players distance iron but rather an additional players club that was in high demand from the consumer base
