I will say this: SIM is legit. Coming from an M3 I picked up almost 10 mph ball speed with a proper fitting. Went from carrying 275/280 to carrying 295-300. The TM guys were all super helpful and informative. Will post a full write up tomorrow, and update when I get my full club data.

I can’t say enough how much I appreciate the GolfWRX folks and the TM folks for this opportunity. Seriously a once in a lifetime experience that I’ll never forget!

Hey All,

I want to thank GolfWRX and TaylorMade for offering up the fitting and royal treatment that we all received today. I wanted to finally sit down and explain the amazing experience we went through today.

First, I am the proud owner of some iron covers. I use them to protect my irons while traveling. I just didn't take them off once I got here. Feel free to roast away, but I like to keep my iron faces free of dings from the amazingly ginger handling that most airlines provide. I know many frown upon the use of iron covers, but I originally bought them to protect my irons on my trip to South Korea for a two year Army assignment. They see to have worked, because my iron faces are still in really good shape.

Second, I am also the one that gained a good bit of ball speed from getting fit for the SIM driver. My gamer is a 915D3 9.5* with a Rogue Silver 70X. I wasn't fit for the driver as I just bought the parts off of the BST. I always felt that I lost yardage due to high spin. The Trackman didn't lie as I was getting 166mph ball speed and 3000 rpm of spin on well struck shots. Where this posed a problem was when I was off-center, the ball would be a high right spinner that would lose a lot of distance. Where I saw great gains was in dispersion. TwistFace just flat out works. Toe shots came back to closer to center, and heal shots faded right back towards center. I also didn't lose as much yardage. I did pick up about 5 mph in ball speed. There are a plethora of reasons for this gain and the resulting 20 yard gain in ball flight. Some could attribute the gain to almost 30 feet of height in ball flight. It could also be because there was 300 less RPM, or over a degree increase in launch angle. Either way, it has proven to me that getting fit by a knowledgeable fitter is crucial. This is the first time that I have been fit for a driver. All my expectations of mine going into this fitting have been met. The SIM is forgiving. The SIM is aerodynamically superior to what I have been playing. The SIM just flat out performs for me because it doesn't balloon, it is forgiving on mishits with good direction and ball speed, and it reduced my spin rate.

The sounds of the SIM line is amazing. The solid "thwack" sound it makes at contact is extremely welcoming. Gone are the days of high pitched aluminum baseball bat sounds. Now there are sounds that just sounds perfect to me. Johnny Wunder posted a video on Instagram of me hitting a driver, and you can hear the sound. The three wood sounds the exact same. It really reminds me of the old days with persimmon woods. The feel is of a heavy strike that you know is sending the ball of a long flight.

Seeing the tech and learning that TaylorMade has been working on club projects like this for years is simply amazing. Learning about the efforts to develop a ball that will outperform many others was eye-opening. The TP5x is a heck of a ball. Learning how the Truss technology came about to increase face stability and eliminate twisting was something that was interesting and I am sure will take off among players. I picked up some great putting tips that I am excited to begin working on.

Finally, the clubs I got fit into were a bit of a surprise. I went up a degree in driver loft to 10.5* with neutral weight setting. I am probably the worst WRX member as I got fitting for a 6.5 70g yellow Smoke. The shaft flat out performed for me. I will be swinging a 15* titanium 3w with the Fujikura Pro 2.0 in 70x. I will probably play this with the adapter set to upright so I can bring down the ball flight a little and create a draw bias. I did not fit well into a 5w or hybrid. I am a bit short and have long arms, so the hybrid was too upright and would result in a hook on my misses. The 5W created an big gap between it and my 4 iron. Instead, I fit perfectly into a P790 3 iron bent 1* weak and 1* flat and shafted with a Project X 6.5. The spin numbers were better than my gamer hybrid and much easier to control.

Today was just simply amazing and I have learned so much over the last two days. TaylorMade is creating great ideas and using some impressive technology.

Feel free to discount my results as I know it is hard to believe picking up so much with just a fitting. The numbers don't lie, and I am a believer today. Roast away as I have thick skin and won't take it personally.

you get a pass on the iron covers since it was for checked baggage, but don’t go posting pictures with them now at your home club!
If you don’t mind, can you tell us about the driver fitting? What was their approach to getting you dialed in? Was it pretty obvious after seeing the Titleist which head to try? Or did you experiment with SIM/Max in different lofts and even different adapter settings until you got it right?
Also, did they give any insight to a lot of the tour guys starting off with Max? Was it due to wet conditions in Hawaii?

Sounds like a whirlwind experience! I'd like to hear more about the Truss putters and the ideas behind them. I'd also like to hear more about your fittings for the putters with Duane! It must feel great to pick up that much yardage with a proper fitting on your driver!

Everyone needs to lighten up on Bonecrusher and his iron covers. He does still wear steel spikes in his golf shoes and he wears them anywhere he pleases including on his mother-in-law's new wood flooring.

Since I don’t think anyone actually responded to this. The short answer is yes, as I was lucky enough to get fitted at The Kingdom 2 springs ago outside of winning anything on here. The long answer is you need to have a fitter who is in good with them, or your head pro (if you’ve got one) reach out and see if they have availability when you’re going to be out there. They would then have to charge that fitter/pro as I don’t believe outside cash is an option. Expect to spend a good chunk on the experience, even more if they build you a club right there, but know it’s the coolest day ever and in my opinion worth it for a bucket list type trip. Or, last way to get there is be a celebrity or athlete and have your agent reach out, and maybe Trottie will even get you on his podcast lol. Hope it helps.

Do the guys at the kingdom check swingweight and add weight when needed? Do they toy with different shaft lengths to try to optimize strike?

Just know yesterday was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the coolest golf days of my life. The Kingdom is truly a magical place and I can’t thank GolfWRX enough for the experience!

Wasn’t the driver I was fit for as the shaft needed to be ordered but Ryan from Taylormade was nice enough to let me use his 9* SIM Max for the day. Fuji Ventus Black 6x

I started out hitting a few drives with my driver. I must admit that I wasn't hitting the ball the greatest. I was rushing my swing/transition and kind of showing my misses. This seemed to be beneficial, because Perry was able to fit not only for when I flush a ball, but he got to see my normal miss (high toe spinner to the right) and see how much ball speed was lost and the ball flight. I was amazed at how I was seeing almost 4000rpm on that miss. Since I play the 915D3, the natural transition was to the SIM. The SIM Max would have been better if I was playing a 915D2. The SIM also spun less, so getting me back down to the 2500 rpm level was the goal.
We did try the stock 10.5* setting, but plus the 9.75* setting. I was able to get better numbers in the 9.75* setting, so that is where I will have it set. I started out with the 6.5 70g Smoke Yellow and began hitting it really good from the start. I thought that I would be fit into a Fuji Pro 2.0 7x, but I hit the 6x and it didn't really work for me, so we stuck with the Smoke yellow. When I went to the 3w, we started with the 15* with the Fuji Pro 2.0 7x. I was hitting it a little high, and the spin numbers were good. I then tried the 14* and I couldn't get the ball up in the air as much as I needed so we went back to the 15*. I wanted to hit a draw, but was having a hard time turning it over. Perry then adjusted the adapter to the upright setting. That brought the ball flight down a little and allowed me to hit a draw. I will be doing a little bit of testing when I receive the 3w between those two settings to see which I want to play the most.
The reason that I heard for some guys like DJ hitting the Max is because they fly the ball far enough that they don't need the roll experienced from the lower spin SIM. These players can fly the ball far enough and the extra roll can lead to rolling through the fairway. Hitting the Max still offers the numbers they want without the fear of having a runner that places them in the rough. Sometimes too much roll is a bad thing.
