Epic flash front weight broken

So a nice 65 degree January day and I go to my course to hit a few balls around. First tee shot, the front weight in my epic flash SZ broke off and now the screw is stuck. Any advice? Should I drill it out? What kind of drill bit?

Don't try to do anything yourself - bring it back to where you bought it and Callaway will send you a new head.

Or you could look up Callaway customer care and send it back to them directly

Never seen a failure like this before - kinda odd, weight must have been faulty

Left hand drill bit will act like an easy out and would be the diy way I would go. Shouldn’t be too hard if you have a way to secure the head.

Call Callaway. They have the best customer service. I recently had my Epic crack on the sole. They took care of me even though I didn't buy it directly with them.

Not sure actually and the broken off piece flew into the grass and I never found it.

It’s the triple diamond. I don’t even want a new one, just get the weight out. Sounds like folks have had good experiences with Callaway. Maybe they can get the weight out.

Had this happen to my epic sz. Just like above, use a left bit to back it out. Really not that hard.

Use a pencil with a eraser, preferably a big eraser. DO not put your finger in the hole and try to get it out. Push the eraser over the broken screw and see if you can get it to come out. Yes, I have done this before. If not, call Callaway Customer Service and they will help you.

Callaway only made a certain amount of the Triple Diamond heads and don't have any in stock. So I would try and fix it yourself, because Callaway would replace it with a standard Sub Zero Flash.

as in just screw the eraser down to push the screw down? Not quite sure I follow. Unfortunately, I tried to easy out the screw and the bit part doesn’t begin to dig into the broken screw. Nothing happens

The issue I’m having is there’s my hole for the bit to start to dig into. It just spins on the top.

I would carefully drill a small hole in the weight with a smaller bit to give yourself something to grab on to.

Yes, push the eraser down on the broken screw and twist just like if you were removing it with a wrench. I have not done it on a Flash driver but did it with 5-6 on the original Epic and was able to get it out.

if I’m seeing this correctly you might be able to get a small flat blade screwdriver to catch on one of the jagged edges and tap it at an angle to get the weight moving counter clockwise. In there’s no locktite you got a chance. Good luck.

I am still going to suggest not messing with it because if you do and it is obvious then I dont think callaway would replace it for you. I would leave it alone and give them a call.

I spoke to the rep at Callaway. She told me to try the eraser trick and if that doesn't work to bring it to a club repair shot. I asked very nicely if I can send it to callaway to take a look, that I'm not looking for a new club and just want the shaft of the screw removed. I didn't get anywhere. I then tried the eraser trick tonight and no luck. Maybe it's sign for SIM.

Kind of suprising from Callaway and that is what she told you. Maybe try again to see if you can get someone else and if that doesn't work, I guess it is time for a SIM driver.

Epoxy a small bolt to the weight.

Once the epoxy cures to the weight you should be able to unscrew it.

Try permatex 5 minute....sets fast and strong cure.

That happened to my my GBB Epic SZ. I just used my finger. If the eraser trick doesn’t work (safer than a finger, the metal can cut you up, I had a golf glove on), then any of the above means should work. It shouldn’t be in there too tight, it’s the top that creates tightness, without a top, it should freely spin.

Callaway replaced my weight for me.

Ended up calling cally back and got someone very helpful. The immediately sent me a shipping label and I sent it to them to try to fix.

Be sure to update us on this one. I think I would have tried a nail head with some super glue on it. I think most OEM's use blue locktite now, so a bit of heat might be needed. Perhaps use a heatgun for a bit, then try the pencil eraser or epoxy on a nail head. In our shop at work we often have to remove broken thread taps / machine screws out of hardened tool steel, and we use an .020"-.030" dia wire rod with electric current to vertically peck thru the broken tap and break it up enough to remove it.
