What's your feel at impact?

At impact do you feel as if

1. You're hitting a ball sideways to your left (RH golfer), that you're facing in front of you?

2. You're hitting a ball forward that's on you're right hand side. (Again RH golfer)?

I feel either on different days but play my best golf when my timing has my chest facing target as the club strikes a ball "beside" me at impact.

3. Or do you have a different feel at impact?

(I hope this makes sense)

Feel is hard to translate. On my best striking days I feel like I hit my irons ever so slightly behind me and my driver ever so slightly in front of me.

using the old noggin, if I imagine a visualization it is like this:

im kneeling on the floor about a foot away from a wall that is in front of my left shoulder. Driver I am hammering a nail into the wall about a foot off the ground. Irons I’m hammering a nail into the floor about a foot to my right and slightly out in front of my knees.

That’s a hard question to answer.

I do NOT feel like I’m hitting it to my left. But I also don’t feel like I’m hitting it “forward”.

I don’t really know. I’d say, I think I feel like I’m hitting it down. But it’s very nebulous in my mind and I’m not sure I even feel like I’m “hitting” anything.

just turning.

Card, does that change if you’re trying to hit a cut or a draw? High or low?

i really like this discussion and of course feels are so individual but I always like hearing what people feel.

so for me, if the target is 12 o’clock, a cut I feel my hands release to about 10 o’clock and a draw I feel my hands release to 12. I’m a natural drawer so for me, “straight” is a draw.

Body open hitting it forward (toward target) for me. Like a flat tennis forehand, high fastball in baseball, or kill shot in racquetball. Arms supported by opening/rotating body, everything lining up for that optimal smash on good ones

You're right were talking at cross purposes.

"Left" to me is shoulders square to target and the ball and strike being (feeling) at 90 degrees to my shoulders.

I feel like I'm hiting forward when I've turned my chest and shoulders towards rarget. At impact the ball is to the right, in line with my shoulders. As dpb says, much more like a forehand drive in tennis.

I hit a pretty big draw. On my best days i feel like my body clears a tiny bit before impact, like i'm coiling and releasing a little bit late. And the ball shoots out of a cannon with a draw/hook

For me it's variation of 2, but I have a tendency to do 1 and then I get bad results. My variation is a feeling of swinging through the ball as opposed to swinging to the ball. There are a bunch of other feels that I may or may not pay attention to at any given shot. A variation of swinging through is to swing through with the trail side. This often helps with getting shoulders and arms in sync. I also have a backhand feel that I use quite often: A feel of pulling with my lead arm and shoulder from transition and all the way through. When am successful at it, it feels like my back is facing the target at impact while in fact my shoulders are slightly open and my hips are really open.

Since September (2) I think. I like to think at impact I'm looking down and back at the ball, but down and right at the ball would work. Hard to say how much scoring improvement I'll see since ground conditions here in the UK are atrocious at the moment but since I'm launching the ball better than I normally do in summer I'm very hopeful.

Yup. I'm basically in the south east (near Oxford) and our problem is usually borderline drought. Not this year though. But I take comfort in two things:

* I've been launching the ball well.

* I'm off for a week in Turkey next month.

It'll be very interesting to see how my swing changes perform out there. I've heard that they have fairways where your feet don't sink in it at all. Amazing!
