I use the TrackMyGolf app on the apple watch out of convenience and it's okay. It allows me to start/stop rounds and keep score without having my phone on me which is a huge plus. It is definitely not as accurate as the Garmin watch I had but it's easier for me to just use the watch I'm wearing all day anyways.

 

When I had a watch I had the Approach X10 and for someone needing minimal features I felt like it was absolutely perfect. I could get three rounds out of the battery, told me an accurate front/middle/back and approaches/hazards, keeps score if you want, automatically changes holes, and it's small.

 

If I'm playing in an event where I want a little more accuracy and don't want my AppleWatch notifications bothering me then I charge up my Garmin and use that instead.

The golf watches are great, just like gps mapping generally.

It is easy to come to rely on it. Had to go back to the old way recently. like riding a bike.

Try the Golfshot app. Its great and can also keep your score.

Mine became useless after two years. Thought it was a charger problem, bought two-no change. Sent to Bushnell, they could not fix and said $110 and we will send you a new one...no thanks.

i used the s60 the last year. i like the touch screen and features, the battery life will last me two rounds easy. But the slope or "plays like" distance is not very accurate.

I was absolutely happy with my S20. Unfortunately one button doesn't work anymore and I'm looking for a replacement.

The S20 isn't available anymore in Germany. Is there an update coming? I won't miss the AutoShot function, the S10 is not an alternative for me.

I've been quite happy with the vivoactive 3 do 1.5 years. The golf gps and scoring works nicely. It also has heart rate and a full suite of fitness tracking. At less than$129 it's a steal.

Meanwhile I found a brand new S20 for 110 Euros. Never change a running system :-)

You said autoshot isn't important to you. It actually does have autoshot but it does not tracking the clubs you hit for each shot.

No worries my friend. If autoshot and being able to record what club you hit with each shot is important to you then I'd look for something other than the Vivoactive 3.

I handled the upgrade to the Garmin S60 last week. It will be introduced at the show. I think the cat said it was called the S70. BB

I am still using the S6 and I think its the best for me. I dont need/want a huge amount of extras on my watches so the more we move towards the all-in-one smartwatch type solutions the less I'm interested. I dont want stats tracking on my watch, dont want autoshot/round tracking - none of that stuff. Front, middle, back and a very easy to use shot measuring function if I want it. Thats pretty much it.

Now if Callaway could figure out a way to stuff the UproMX into a watch - I'm all for it.

I used to have a range finder but I gifted it to my dad. I am looking for some options like GPS watch. The only thing I am worried is I have three golf buddies who has gps watches. All of their watches, in 2 years, the battery cannot hold a charge for that long anymore when being used in GPS mode. They have all be reduced to wrist watches. Anyone had this same experience?

It was the S62. The screen was .2 inches bigger with a few more features. They said they improved the battery life. Then again, they always say that. Should get a couple rounds out of it, as long as you're not using the extras.

It felt a little large to me. Not sure I would want such a stout watch on during golf. Then again, I prefer my GPS band.

I don't see battery issues with the S20 as the battery life is excellent. I really wish I had gotten the G10, as I like it hanging off my belt like the Golf Buddy.

Can't go wrong with Garmin, and you do not necessarily need to buy a Garmin golf specific model. I have the Fenix and the golf app rocks. Look at their line.. I have been using mine for almost 3 years and zero battery issues. Garmin has replaced mine once under warranty - it became unresponsive after a charge. They were fab to deal with, no worries or further issues...

I have the new Garmin venu. More of a fitness watch than anything golf specific as I like to run and bike. Using the golf app I can download courses from phone to watch. It's really quite nice with all the info i need on my wrist I don't really use my rangefinder anymore. Tracks my shots quite well but doesnt record club selection. The venu has a better screen than most other Garmin watches but the app isn't designed to take advantage of it (yet, I hope) as it could be spectacular.

I own Garmin S20 and S60. S20 is simpler to use and hazards are easy to get to. S60 is nice, but I have to fumble around to get to the hazard screen. Battery life isn't up to par. I am not spending another $500+ dollars to upgrade to S62. I would recommend S20. Cheap and easy to use or look elsewhere.

About GPS watch accuracy. Are the front/middle/back yardages preset? Maybe like on a clock face with 6 always being front and 12 always being the back of the green? Do those yardages change should I be coming in from the 4:00 angle with that becoming my "adjusted" front of green and 10:00 being the new back of green? Does that question make any sense? Thanks!

+1 on the Vivoactive 3. I have it since it was released and previously had the original VA. It gives me the information I need for my rounds plus it can be used for walking, runnin and many other activities. I believe that since I started using them, I had used my rangefinder a couple of times only.

Are the courses pre-loaded like on the fenix and some of the other golf specific watches? Or do you have to download the specific courses you intend to play?

You have to download the courses you are playing. They are not pre-loaded. It does save them to your watch so after you do it once you don't need to do it again. I am not sure how many courses it can handle saved on it at once. I have quite a few and haven't had any issues.

Courses are downloaded and saved to the phone. I read somewhere that the watch keeps up to 5 in the memory. Anyway, in a new course, you download it before your round, then start the golf app and it will synchronise with the phone. After that, you don’t need the phone anymore.

Definitely between these and the S62. At times I think I’d prefer the simpler S20(even the S10) and then I think I’d like all the functionality (heart rate,etc) that the S62 provides...
