new cobra cb/mb in the near future?

Hi everyone,

It's unusual for me, but i am close to treat myself. After 3 long year of doing 40h of work + college in industrial electronic + family, i decide that i work hard enough to buy something for me.

 

Love my J15cb, but i have never been fit for them. So, i am gonna set a iron fitting. And one of the set that i always loved is the cobra king forged cb/mb. I must say that i am not a fan of the black finish, Would prefer something more traditionnal.

Does anyone know if Cobra have planned to release an update of these irons in 2020? Any info?

Supposedly there will be an updated CB/MB lineup this year with Cobra. I don't really know anything about them however.

The rumor seems to be that cobra will be refreshing the Cobra King Forged Tour irons with their MIM technology. Cobra King MIM Tour? Based on the prototype irons Fowler has been hitting, a refresh of the CB/MB line is likely coming too, but who knows when. Cobra seems high on MIM tech and could be using this tech instead of forging moving forward. Cobra usually releases irons in the fall. I would expect to see something around October. A comment in the Ricky Fowler Cobra prototype iron thread seems to suggest we may see the MIM irons even sooner in April '20, and new blades in October.

I just got a set of the Full Cavity Black CB irons and I love them! I had heard that they might update them but I really didnt want to wait to be honest!

In speaking to a cobra rep. he said that there would not be a new CB/MB for 2020. Now, he may not be completely in the know but he is a solid guy and seems to know his stuff, or at the time we talked there was nothing planned and things changed. I don't doubt what he told me was correct at that time. It could have changed since then, I do not know but I was told nothing new.

 

The RF blades may change that but I think those are a one of for him alone.

So far, they are really good! I have played about 5 rounds with them and I live in Ohio, so it is very wet and muddy right now. I just use water and a brush to clean them off and there are no problems as of right now!

I really want a set of mb/cb, I just need to get rid of this set of pxg 0211 s first. I don't think I would wait even if they did announce an update to the line.

Just bought the CB/MB irons last weekend, 3 CB, 5-GW combo. Really nice feel to them. The blades look more compact than anything besides the Ping Blueprint. They almost make the Mizuno MP20 look chunky. Also looked at Titleist CB/MB, T100's, Blueprints, MP 20's. The number of no charge custom shaft options, black finish, great feel, small offset, and value price is what had me go for this set. If you look at the Cobra "Pro" irons since Ricky joined their staff, they really haven't changed the CB/MB irons a whole lot. I don't expect the new irons to be a radical departure from these. Even if the next blades are made using "MIM" with a modified muscle back, no offset, and a topline that could slice a tomato, you aren't likely going to get much added performance. Blades aren't loaded with "tech" or designed to hit the ball any further. The feel, esthetics, and "turf interaction" are refined from generation to generation, that's about it. So if these look good, feel good, and hit balls at flagsticks....go for it.

I would agree for the most part, but there seems to be some additional engineering towards weight distribution (darn kids and their toe screws).

I honestly would love the flow or even full cb set, but i would prefer a more traditional finish. Black iron finish never did it for me

For sure, CG optimization has made blades more forgiving. With a cavity back, you have more freedom to move more mass around. With a blade you are more limited by design. I think Cobra has done a really good job with this. The newest CB/MB's have 6 grams of tungsten in the toe and sole. The blueprints have a tungsten toe screw that serves a dual purpose for CG positioning and swing weight modification, but from what I read these screws only weigh 2-8 grams. Cobra already has this built in. Blades will always be lower MOI than a cavity back. Lower MOI = less forgiving, more workable. Historically, the problem with blades is that the CG was positioned towards the hosel, and potentially not in the middle of the club face. Even if you hit the middle, you may lose some speed due to contact being off the "sweet spot". One way around that was to increase blade length = more mass in the toe (the original toe weight). This obviously makes the iron bigger and blade length longer. Now you are seeing some smaller blades, like Cobra CB/MB and Ping Blueprint, that have a shorter blade length while also pushing the CG further from the hosel (Maltby's C Dimension) by using toe weights/screws to re-position the CG without changing the size or shape of the blade

The most recent iteration of the cobra mbs almost got bought by me. But I was on a budget and found Adam's MBs for a song so went that direction. Always wanted them, they are good.... but they dont have a 2i... the cobras do.......

 

I am longing for a set of the 2019 Cobra MBs, black, 2i then 4i-pw with PX 6.0 in them for 600 bucks... until that happens. There's only one sweet spot, and my Adam's are good enough..... for now

Yeah I wanna know if those rumored cobra player CB MIM are real. I’m in the market for new irons this year and have forged tours now I love so I’d love to give Cobra a shot again. The new forged tec spun too little and the blades are hot but a little too much for me.
