So…last night I spent $20 on an impulse Facebook marketplace purchase...What did I get for that princely sum?

Haig Ultra 3-9. Pro Flex R shafts. Anyone know anything about what year they would have been from?

Pretty ok condition I think. 9-Iron face shown. They’re all pretty similar to this condition.Kinda wish I could find a matching PW to complete the set.Need new grips and to be cleaned up a bit but shafts don’t seem to be rusted and faces are in pretty ok shape.

Hogan 2-3-4-5 Woods. Would welcome any history, ages or opinion on good vs. garbage

3-4-5 are matching serial number. Shafts are Vector 3. Really hoping someone knows anything about these? Most Hogan woods I see say “Ben Hogan” on the top, these are just “Hogan”2 Wood seems newer, has “Ben Hogan” on top and “Speed Slot” on the side?

I had a set of Hogan Speed Slot woods. They were first purchased by a friend of my cousin's mother's husband. Who in turn gave them to my cousin when he upgraded who in turn gave them to me when he upgraded. I played them in high school; 1-3-4-5 woods. Probably about 1979-1980. I'd guess the speed slot woods came out in the late 70s. With my golfwrx swing speed and wildness, i'd neck it now and then and cause breakage causing me to switch to the Pittsburgh Persimmon driver. Not for any perceived advantage, just for durability reasons. By then I had dropped the 5 wood for a 2 iron because that's what all the playas did.

I've seen those Haig Ultras before. My memory is hazy and I'm probably incorrect but I seem to remember those Haig irons are being very good and competing with the Wilson Staff offerings before the Haig name was used on lower end clubs. I don't recall the "fluid feel" on the sole of the Haigs but maybe I never looked.

@umassgolfer
I took a surf through Ironfinder, it looks like these are 67 Ultra, Contour Sole. They have a head only PW in "fair condition," has some chrome loss on the face. But, it's reasonably priced. https://www.ironfinder.com/item_detail.asp?sku=10367

Yes I found those as well after I posted. But with the lofts, I'm not really sure I need a PW. 47 degree 9-iron is the same as the pitching wedge in my current set. Worst case, could throw my current 51* wedge to round out the set. The irons are really cool to me. Love how the grooves extend out towards the toe.

Appreciate the speed slot wood info. Really curious about the other ones. They have a really sweet look and feel to them. Haven't found any others with just "Hogan" on the top in my searching today.

The 3-4-5 look like the old "Radial" designed woods from the era when they made the Radial irons. I could be totally wrong on that though. I am far from a Hogan expert. The soles were more rounded and lowered the center of gravity to make them easy to launch. If I remember right, they performed pretty well but had a tendency to get moisture under that rounded sole plate and they would bulge even more and come apart. But those appear to be in pretty good shape. Laminated I assume???

Yep you are thinking right by throwing in the 51* for a "PW" Yep those lofts are old school at it's finest. Actually that is the way I have my 54 Precisions gapped. To keep it Hogan I use a 51* K Grind Special which fits in perfectly with that set

I ain't no Hoganista either ( yet) but I think you nailed it on the woods. I think those woods with the exception of the 2 wood were the ones that came with either the Radials or the "funky" sole Directors. I think the Deuce ( 2 wood ) may be from the 70s because if I recall correctly most manufacturers quit making 2 woods in the mid 70s. Do not know on Hogan but most of my Macgregor 2 woods are around 12 to 13*. D Copp on here got me talked into hitting a 2 wood and I am glad he did.
