Honma Tour Release (TR)/Tour World (TW) Clubs

The new Honma TR20 driver and irons have just been released and are available on the US Honma site. Two driver models (440 and 460) and two iron models (TR20P and TR20V). When looking at the irons the TR20P and V seem to be additions to the range rather than direct replacements of the TW747V, TW747Vx and TW747P.

The TR20V has lofts between the TW747V and Vx, with offset numbers that are more than the Vx in the long irons, and only marginally smaller in the 10/11 irons (0.004"). The TR20P seems to fit between the TW747P and the TW747Vx in terms of lofts/offset but it is forged.

I have to admit to preferring the cosmetics of the TW747 range of irons to be honest but love the looks of the new drivers.......

The Honma irons were a bit firm and had a “ting” like feel due to hollow body. Distances were predictable and consistent.

I ended up going back to my Maltby DBMs. The Honma soles were too wide for me in the end, especially in wet/sloppy conditions. Other than that they were solid. In hindsight, I might’ve liked steel shafts VS the stock Vizard graphite they came with.

I'm seriously considering combo'ing the TW-X and the Rose Proto's. The ability to join them up at differing points in the set is really interesting. When I am struggling I can use more of them and when my game is where it should be I can use only the long irons. I'm not one of those who gets caught up in lofts and numbers on the sole of the clubs, and only interested in how the distances match up.

Does anybody know the hosel diameter of the TW-X? I am assuming it is 0.355?

How was the spin off/stopping power of TW-X on green? I tried TW-X 5i with NS Modus3 105 at PGASS as shopping for utility 5 iron for 170 yd distance against Mizuno MP-18 MMC Fli Hi. I consistently had 160 carry but total was 180. I suppose 2-piece distance balls were the cause but 20 yds rolls seem too much. I generally produce high spin off irons.

My feedback on TW-X was awesome. Thicker topline but not too overwhelming. Sole was just thick enough so that you do not see it bulging out like Mizuno. Definitely, toe to heel was pretty short but not a deal-killer. Now at impact, feel was so good like my 747V.

Above all, the price is cheaper than all other major brands, south of 200. Now debating over steel shaft or graphite.

If I had it to do again, I’d have gone steel. I play Q Star tours, I got adequate spin from the 7 up. I could get a bounce and stop but never could peel one back with the pitch or approach wedges. If you feel comfortable with the sole, you'll love the X!

I tried the Rose Proto's a while back, but remember the feel being incredibly hard off the face... is this how all Honma irons are?

I absolutely love the way Honma irons look, but couldn't game them based on that feel I remember. Maybe I need to go and retest or something.

Hit my TW-X this afternoon and they feel fantastic. I have hit all the hollow bodied players distance irons and frankly these are in a class of their own in terms of look and feel. I'm not sure how Honma measure offset but visually these have less than the HMB, P790s, Cobra Forged Tec, i500 and the T200. The blade length is also considerably shorter. They feel fantastic but are forgiving and the ball speeds are right where you would expect them to be given lofts and hollow design.

The wider sole might not be for everybody but there is a leading edge grind that reduces digging and off the turf they play beautifully.

I played the 747460 for a year it was not loud IMO. Def not louder than an epic flash. You may want to check your weights or try the heavier weight in front thats where I had it.
