Titleist T400 irons

They basically look like concept irons. I mentioned in another thread that Titleist is losing their way. There is another point towards that. Just stupid... Well, at least they have a ball.

Restamp the numbers and you have very a vary well gaped and traditional setup.

Losing their way not sure about that. They have expanded into more segments of the game that opens their brand up to those that felt like what they offered didn’t fit their game and looked elsewhere as well as giving their base that as they age and slow down an option that helps them with distance and keeps them in the brand.

I think the new blood that’s come into the brand is helping change them for the better. Also keep in mind they are a publicly traded company and sales matter so expanding into a market where others are gives the chance for more sales numbers. These irons are done the titleist way.

I'm not sure they're losing their way as much as they are trying to get in where the money is. AP1s (T300 now) were their best seller, and it stands to reason that they know there is a lucrative market for these irons that others have been covering.

I can imagine plenty of longtime Titleist loyalists have had to look elsewhere as they've gotten older, and these may keep them in the fold.

I sort of see their iron lineup reflecting Mizuno. There will be a players line for those that want it, but for those that want more help (or distance), these would fill the bill.

These two posts say a lot of the same thing, and are spot on! Definitely not losing it's way, still have the players line at the MB and CB, just more offerings for those that felt that Titleist didn't make an iron for them! Glad to see that not everyone is on the warpath in this thread.

They may not be for me at the moment, but I've always looked at it - whether it be designs like this, certain OEMs product cycles, etc - is that when the market tells them they don't like what they (or competitors) are doing, they'll stop doing it one way or another.

If I don't like jacked lofts, I don't buy clubs that have them.

I'm surprised the comments weren't about how thick they are. I get the vanity aspect of club # vs. loft. These will certainly give the person who uses them a leg up against the competitor who looks in his bag to see what iron he hit, to get a feel for what club they should use.

I play with a friend who gets 160 yds from a perfect (for him) driver strike. He really could use something that gives him more distance, and helps him get it up in the air, because most of his iron shots don't get above 40' in the air. I'm not a long hitter, and with standard lofts, I hit aout 2 clubs less than him for a given distance. Since I hit my 5i about 165 yards, that means his 5i now, only goes about 140. These might help him have better gapping.

Well, if you’re a senior and really need distance help, these are a stylish choice. Big sweet spot, thicker top line for confidence, high launch, jacked lofts...sounds like a sgi distance set up...don’t have any issue with this release. Looks pretty good.

Cant this be said about any SGI iron? See my previous post about my father who can use distance help...There are right ways to go about it and this isnt it... Why do the lofts have to be jacked? You can just buy the normal 4-GW, roughly 20 degree to 50 degree, and accomplish literally the exact same thing? Why do the numbers have to be 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and THREE wedges?

They arent inventing anything here, they are just changing the numbers on the bottom for no reason.

I like golf. A lot.

had to join just to jump in on the conversation.

any decent fitter is trying to create an optimal ball flight. A high percentage of high handicaps deliver the club with far too much loft at impact. They deliver a 7 iron like a better player will deliver a 9 iron or pw. Clubs like this and other strong lofts are not designed for someone with optimal dynamic loft at impact creating the desired 7 iron flight. Hence why they have options.

if I go to a fitter and they hand me something like this I would walk out as they are not interested in ball flight and control, just distance. However I can think of many people I have played with at the weekends who could benefit from this.

what I possibly disagree with is that these are designed for slow swing speeds, uns

What in the heck is that gapping? This just isn’t necessary. All this does to someone like an aging member at a country club is add lots of confusion. That is why I complain about lofts, I tell people what their 6 iron from their 10 year old set of irons is and what is going on with this set and they just think im crazy and im trying to sell them a gimmick.

“oh snap left that one short, shouldve used wedge #6 instead of wedge #7”

PW - 38 degrees

….... my 7 iron is 35 degrees!!!

These are obviously aimed towards golfers who want to hit their irons further but will they even be able to get these airborne?

Cool, we'll see more bags of 6 wedges.

I can see inflated egos of more golfers bragging hitting their T400 PW same distance as other's 8 iron.

So, these look like a more forgiving AP3. Matter of fact, look at the T300 specs. These are those with one less number stamped on them. These just don't have the sun dial and are a little thicker bodied. There's definitely a market for these.

I think the reaction to the lofts and number stamping, though somewhat understandable, is a bit blown out of portion. We all have sets starting somewhere around 20* and ending around 50* (before we get into specialty wedges). Who cares what the sole says. For a 100 mph swinger, we're all gonna pull our 33* club for a 160 yard shot. Who cares if it says 7 or 9 on the bottom? The same loft gets us there. The number is irrelevant so I don't really get the fuss. I mean, everyone is cool with the T100S having a stronger loft and being stamped with the same number. How's this any different? Is it that you're mad that you'll pull a "7" while your playing partner will pull a "9" on the same par 3? If so, is the problem really with their ego or with yours? And to the argument about people won't be able to launch these, they will if they get a properly fit shaft. But their T400 9 iron flight is going to be their best traditional 7 iron flight. Again though, it doesn't really matter, because that's their 33* ball flight.

Hi All

You are missing the point. These irons are for high handicap players that want to enjoy the game of golf.

These irons are aimed at Super Game Improvement so if you are a single digit handicap play the T100 / T200 irons. All manufacturers has very strong lofted irons, for that specific niche segment. Get over it and let us high handicappers enjoy the benefit of using modern technology to enjoy life.

i don’t assume that most of you are using outside toilets. The world just moves on.

Modern technology: changing the number on the bottom of the club.... ok....? the dumb thing is this wont stop next year callaway or tm will come out with a 35 deg pw, and so on... they cant fathom a launch monitor saying their competitors pitching wedge goes further than theirs. Its all just silly, but as long as ignorant people keep buying them, they will keep doing it.

i saw the release this morning and figured golfwrx would implode.

first, this seems like a move than your secondary company launches. Lexus doesnt launch the toaster on wheels, they have Scion do that. what happened to Titelist?

second, lofts lofts target market. whatever. keep in mind that high handicappers or aging groups usually do not have the swingspeed necessary to differentiate normal long irons. With these loft specs, i'd be surprised if much of the target audience sees any gapping between the 5 and 6 iron. hell, id bet theres a large percentage that wouldnt see much of a gap between the 5 iron and 7 iron.

i will say, at least they added wedges. as stupid as w1, w2, and w3 are, they at least give you a chance to have proper gaps at the other side of the back. so many others keep a 50 degree gap and get insane gaps back to a 28 degree 7 iron.
