Going to a tour event in golf clothes

I suspect that since caddies walk all over the green, including frequently close to the hole, that the tour considers it more important that the caddies wear shoes that won't damage the greens (like golf shoes) than that they are inherently stable in every situation.

What articles of clothing would you consider suitable to wear to a golf tournament?

Ping G400 LST 9° Diamana white 63x
Ping G410 LST 3 wood Diamana Thump x
Srixon ZX Utility 19 UST Recoil 95x

Srixon ZX7 4-AW C-taper S+

Vokey SM9 54F and 58C

Odyssey Eleven Tour-Lined Slant

caddies usually wear a sneaker or hiking shoe. those do not leave marks on the greens.

I saw so many trashed mesh type shoes on loopers this summer it wasn't funny.

for me at tournaments - always waterproof footwear and never mesh. one never knows about weather or ticks.

same for long pants. if I'm in the gallery or working the event, it's slacks and a proper shirt.

dressing for the event , as an earlier poster stated, will allow one through any door.

currently playing:
FT-5 - D
Cally FT hybrids
Hogan Edge GS, 4-PW
Vokey Oil Can 52, 56
Ping Anser 2

Caddies are required to wear athletic shoes - found that in an article but can't find the source it used so who knows. Golfweek was weighing in on caddies wearing shorts and mentioned the other clothing requirements.

Edit: Here's relevant language from what the PGA Tour was using for a caddies tournament registration form from a couple of seasons ago:

. . . “caddies shall wear smooth rubber-sole shoes, preferably tennis or basketball shoes” and “caddies are required to wear solid-colored, Khaki-style long pants, which touch the top of the shoe, or solid-colored, knee-length, tailored shorts or skorts and a collared shirt while on club property.”

Obviously OP has never been to the states, especially California. The Farmers at Torrey Pines is a smoke show of hot women and a party atmosphere. I'll wear "functional" clothes that provide the most comfort and sun protection based on the weather. Hat, T shirt, jacket, jeans or shorts, tennis shoes or flip flops. I like to walk most of the course and follow groups. I don't go to schmooze clients or impress anybody. The ladies dress to impress and I fully support their choice to wear see through yoga pants and tube tops.

The Rickie Fowler orange isn't that popular anymore. I've seen the Tiger suit guys and other fandom outfits occasionally. I blame San Diego Comic Con for these furry cosplay characters. It's entertaining.

I completely agree, jerseys are lame, too. No grown man should wear a shirt that has another grown man's name on the back.

I can see the argument for spikeless shoes, but if you're dressed like a pro at an event (Pants, tucked in shirt, belt, hat, soft spikes...the works), you're going to be open to some behind-your-back ridicule.

Whether or not you think wearing football / baseball / basketball / hockey jerseys at games is lame, nobody thinks they're "posing" as players or otherwise insiders to the game they're attending. They're just expressing their fandom (heck, a lot of those wearing jerseys are young boys and girls). I go to a lot of baseball games and most folks wearing team jerseys are also wearing flip-flops and shorts.

OTOH - is a spectator wearing a tucked in Millar shirt, white belt, tech-golf pants, golf shoes and and a Titleist hat also just expressing fandom?

OP - I've been to Germany and throughout most of Europe. North Americans dress differently than Europeans in hot weather. It is very common to see middle aged North American men wearing a golf shirt and shorts out and about on a hot summer day - the exact same outfit (other than golf shoes) that you'd wear golfing or to a golf tournament. I could always tell fellow North American's on my travels as they generally dressed more casual than the local men - especially in France. I stood out as a complete tourist in Paris in July dressed in a golf shirt and shorts - I was also way more comfortable.

BTW - loved my time in Germany, good food, great beer and contrary to what some may hear - friendly people.

I've been to the states a couple times, but never attended a tour event. I also do fully support Ladys wearing see through and yoga pants :D High heels are also inappropriate, but less than a tour dress. ;) I haven't been all around the states but I've seen a couple states and I liked all of them very much. Not as different as in Europe, but noticeably different from state to state. The kindness of the people impressed me... Then I went to Canada and was shocked. The Canadians are on a different level of kindness :D I don't know how reliable the numbers are, but according to one source, 10% of Americans are golfers. In Germany 0.7%. So golf is much more a mass sport than in Germany. In Germany there are very few Clubs where you can play casual. You may be thrown out of the golf course if you are not dressed properly or are too loud. I once was in playing in Florida (by the way a nice place to play golf) and the first course we were playing the guy in the pro shop asked us if we want fife or ten. I was confused and didn't know what he could mean. It was about the beer for the round. A great experience :)

No, but you walk on concrete at a baseball game, not on the field. You walk the actual course at a golf course and i've definitely found wearing spikeless golf shoes like roshe g to be a decent option.

As far as "golf clothes" goes, i wear linksoul/nike shorts all the time whether on or off the course and usually wear polos a lot as well so that's mostly what i end up wearing at golf tournaments too. i imagine most golfers who go to the tournaments are similar.

Golf shoes to watch a tournament? Super dork move

Wearing golf PANTS when its a very hot day in a tournament in the south for no reason than to look 'pro'? Dork move

Most of the time if I'm not working on a car or carpentry I'm dressed like I'm headed to the golf course. Pretty much the only nice clothes I own.

How should you show up,, overalls and a hoodie.

Have you ever seen the clowns going to the US tennis open. They are fully dressed in tennis outfits, and some have racquet bags...now that looks ridiculous. I hardly see a golf shirt and nice pants to a Tour event as being pretentious.
