I'm gathering from the reps and early testing from some professionals; the biggest change of this family of tour balls is the Tour B RX, cover seems to be a little more softer and responsive (reactiv cover) around the greens than the previous model and it's not giving up any distance. Supposedly Couples and Rocco are using it now. Any early testers out here?

I was planning on buying when they release but I may wait until the review comparisons come out between the '19 and '20 models.

Yes, would like to see all the comparisons once they come out. From what I heard the Tour B RX is an improvement in feel without sacrificing distance.

No yellow in the X and XS seems like a mistake to me.

Reviews, comparisons? It’s a $40 dozen golf balls not an $80,000 Mercedes. Buy some and test drive them. I will.

You look at the Nike tour RZN Black in Volt finish and the BX / BXS in yellow and they’re identical. RZN tour black is arguably the best ball ever made in my opinion. Bridgestone not capturing that yellow in the top end ball sucks but oh well. I’m sure Taylormade will pick up that slack.

One of the big issues with ball testing is that it's very hard for one person to hit enough balls to really find the differences. As a 14 handicap, I'd probably have to hit 100's of balls to find a meaningful difference (other than feel) between the upcoming Tour B XS and the current version. To get accurate ball data, you really need either a robot (or very consistent player) and a high quality launch monitor. Not all of us have access to a launch monitor to test the balls.

people just play favorites. It’s that simple. Your best score or a golf milestone like first eagle, first time breaking 90, 80, whatever to many people means it’s their favorite ball. I’m guilty of that. I think at one time or another, all golfers are.

Some just want to have a softer or harder feeling ball, too

I have played the new 2020 Tour Bx extensively.

I cannot compare to 2019 ball, because I tested, didn’t like it, and therefore did not play it.

However, compared to Pro V1 that have played for three seasons I can tell you new Bx seems to best or equal V1 in all categories, for me.

Longer and straighter off the tee. The straighter part is magnificent. Also appears to have better wind stability.

Where it’s most shocking is around the greens. The Bx actually checks and bites HARDER than V1... but then somehow doesn’t over spin into the green.

In my humble option Bridgestone has a real winner on their hands. I can tell yo that when they hit the market next month I will be switching.

You have both the BX and RX in your review . Did you try both or just typo? Not familiar with the current Bridgestone line. Thanks

Have always dabbled with Bridgestone balls, but have always come away feeling that the X was too firm. The new XS sounds like a real winner and will be fun to try them again this year. It will take a lot to kick the TP5 out of the bag. Best ball (2019 version) I have played in years.

otw, my apologies for the confusion. Yes, the "Rx" was a typo. The 2020 Bridgestone ball I am referring to is the Tour Bx.

That's great to hear. Last year I firmly believed the Bridgestone balls were the best on the market. I happily could have played the TP5 and TP5x also... but I played both the B X and B XS. settled in to the B XS bc of more spin. Both balls have incredible speed and distance.

The rounds I played in 2019 with the Tour B X I definitely noticed a straighter flight vs any ball I tried last year. On average was typically 5 yards longer than the B XS off the tee but bigger distance gap in irons b/c of lower spin.

If the 2020 B X has more spin then ill be switching to that ball!! From May - October I exclusively played the B XS and loaded up on 6 dozen for this year

Were you able to compare spin off the driver between the BX and BXS? I played BXS all last season and had a great year. I went on a launch monitor in October and was spinning my driver with the BXS around 2500RPM, so it could come down a few hundred RPM to optimise my distance. My PW was spinning +10,000RPM which is quite a lot for a 48 degree wedge, but I can at least stop it on the green in summer!

If the BX spins a little less off the driver I may switch. My golf club had a deal on the BXS only last year as they had the Tiger stamp on. But if the new balls are as good as everyone is saying I will definitely be trying them both out.

Yea I tested both balls head to head quite often. The BX had about 300rpm less with driver and typically 1* lower launch. On average there was maybe 3 - 5 yards difference off the tee so nothing crazy. On course tho I do believe the BX had a tendency to fly straighter with less sidespin. Ball speeds were the same, but B X had lower spin. I dont think you'll see a huge difference in driver distance and spin vs the differences in mid/short irons distance and spin.

The BX definitely has plenty of stopping power around the green too, but for my game the B XS was the clear cut winner from 75 yards and in.

The 2020 balls are supposed to be incredible! I currently have 6 dozen B XS and 2 dozen B X of the old model so I dont know what to do lol

I have to say the new ball tech sounds really interesting. I've always gone with the firm model of every ball I've played but this new cover tech could sway me to try the XS as well. I'll be doing some testing against the current BX when they come out in February for sure.

Looking foward this release, tested the 2019 lineup and was surprised by the tour X ball, was playing the RX before because of my swing speed (around 95-100) but the BX ball just feels superior, is just better in every category.

just a littly clicky with the putter.

I was an RX user a couple of cycles ago, and generally really liked the ball, but switched to the AVX a couple of years ago, mainly because I was attracted to it by its lower launch. I have a naturally very high ball flight and feel like the lower launch of the AVX has been pretty beneficial for me. I'm definitely intrigued by this year's line-up from Bridgestone - does anyone know the launch characteristics of the B series balls? Do the X vs. XS models tend to launch differently?

Last year I did a bunch of testing and found the following balls very comparable. Almost interchangeable.

    Snell MTB Black

    Bridgestone RX

    Oncore Elixir

    Srixon Z Star

I really like the RX, but spin hitting into the greens was an issue for me. I finally switched to the Snell MTB-X for the spin, but then switched to the Z Star because it was a little softer and just slightly shorter (distance wise) but still good spin hitting into the greens.

Sounds like I'll have to test the RX again.

If the new XS is anything like the 2014 B330-S I’ll be stocking up. That ball was so good. The past few iterations of the S / XS have spun more than I like, and I just never got a long with the X. Bridgestone claims this new Smart Cover is the biggest step in golf ball design since the solid core ball. That’s a big statement. We’ll see.

I don't really concern myself with tour pros and the balls they play when I decide what ball to play. It has to work for me, and my game doesn't much resemble Tiger's or Fred's. But, I thought it was interesting that Couples switched to the ball designed for lower swing speeds, B-RXS. Mediate also.
