Wilson Staff equipment - good or bad?

nad12

Recommended Posts

In fact, would you say to ignore the golf magazines and websites spill as its all promoted based on the dollar

Everybody would be better off if they did that. Test equipment on your own and make a decision based on your own findings instead of other reviews that likely have zero in common with how you swing or play. Other peoples reviews might be interesting to read or view but nothing beats trying the equipment for yourself.

I used to play with Wilsin FG Tour irons. I loved these irons.......distance was very consistent, lots of forgiveness. Only reason I stopped playing with them......Mizuno MP68. Love the butter soft feel of these sticks.

If I ever go over the the depths of becoming a club ho, I will give the Wilson F6 irons a serious look.

In my opinion, Wilson is on par with the more popular brands......@ a much better price !!

Wilson Staff C300 Forged are excellent. Will be playing them this season. Do not really like the Nippon Modus 105 X shafts I got in them, but I will solve that with a reshaft. Just a miss on the fit. Will either go with PX Rifles, DG Tour Issue 120 or Accra constant weight graphites.

Also excellent are the PMP wedges (tour grind very nice) and so is the C300 hybrid, especially for lovers of compact hybrid heads.

Wilson’s stuff is as good as it was back in the day and as good as anything made, no doubt about it.

Hit the Wilson stuff yesterday. WOW! Was pleasantly surprise how good this stuff was. Wilson rep. showed up while I was hitting a C300 driver, which was suggested by my buddy that works at Golf Town. Was going iBlades, but @ a $400 savings, no brainer! Didn't think I would like the woods, but they are underrated IMO. Going all Wilson to save a ton of $$$$. ;)

I don't believe what I am reading!! I always see you asking, talking about Pings. I thought for sure you were going to buy some i200's. Good luck with the Wilsons. I am currently playing the FG Tour V4, after my AP2's with 5.5 Rifles gave me golfers elbow bad. I put these back in the bag and I am very happy with the shaft and the performance. Good Luck!

Yep, had every intention of buying the iBlades, but I was in the right place at the right time running into the Wilson rep. If money was no object, iBlades for sure. Like the look, performance, feel a bit better. But we are talking $500 diff. in price! That's a lot. Don't think I am going to play any better or worse with the V6s!?

The guys at the store I go to say the Wilson C300 driver is impressing those who try it out. The power holes even help aiming.

Wilson D200 iron question!

I see that Wilson D200's had the True Temper SL85 steel shafts which states they are 85 grams. Now I see they are selling these irons with Uniflex shafts so my question is what is the weight of the Uniflex steel shaft?

So far I have been two different answers from folks selling these irons! One stated 85 grams and one said 115 grams.

This is why I am asking here so maybe a Wilson employee is on here or the company itself is a sponsor/member here that can answer or someone else knows for sure! I have searched this and cannot find it spec'd out anywhere online.

Thx.

NOTE: The first pic shows the label that I have seen regarding the SL85 shaft, the second and third pics are the ones I have seen on the Uniflex shafted irons.

Just taken my new f5 forged irons out for their first hit, and wow. I'm a 3 cap and have played 588Cb's for 2 years, love them but fancied a bit more help in the long irons as I'm not a big shaper of the ball so figured why make the game harder. These have everything I was looking for, great spin, feel and forgiveness. Love the traditional lofts as they gap seamlessly to my 50* Vokey, 125 P/W, 115 G/W which is ideal for me. Set up perfect behind the ball, hardly any offset but large enough head to inspire confidence, rounded leading edge that worked great in the soft conditions. The finish of the irons look really classy and got them for £125 with Project X 6.5's! and they are a good 8/10. People don't know what they are missing out on with Staff but more bargains for those of us that do.

Still gaming my FG V4's. Really have been impressed with them over the last two years. Nevdr thought I would own Wilson Staff clubs. Got them at a bargain - $400 brand new 4 thru pw. So I figured, why not try them. Then they found there way into my bag as my gamers.

Hear you, there. Except mine were $200 new (4-GW) from Budget Golf! Wilson. Staff. Can’t hardly believe it.

The Traction Control wedges in my bag will wear out before I give them up.

The "V" series irons seem to be as good as anything else you can buy.

The drivers are distinctly underrated in my opinion due to target-marketed stock shafts that don't work as well for faster swings.

The DUO is the best feeling ball on the market IMO

I got a Wilson D300 driver for $100 on closeout. A driver with a tour win(!) (Important to some) for that price?

Quality is on par with other brands that I have seen. The D300 feels a bit light and fragile, but that was mostly because they packed in tech to make it lighter. Vintage you're absolutely right about the shaft offerings; my one problem with this club has been finding a good shaft to pair up with it.

Absolutely. Their irons are some of the best on the market IMO with a very unique sole design and great feel. I’ve got the Staff Forged wedges for testing right now and they look/feel great. I’ve always been a Vokey guy but may use these for my 52 and 56.

Excited for my Staff Blades to get here next week

W/S makes top notch gear for unassuming players. Wilson as a sporting goods brand is absolutely massive and likely has the ability and capital to subsidize the W/S brand and keep up w/ the other OEMs marketing and produce release cycles. Thing is, that’s not their angle. W/S makes great (underrated) equipment that is Major Championship worthy...just as it’s been for the past century or more.

I love golf

In case anybody is interested in the new wedges. I tested the 56 on sim today and was averaging 10000-11000 rpm backspin with pro v1x on a 95 yard 3/4 swing. VERY good feel and excellent sole. The high bounce plays very clean unlike some others I’ve tried. The 50 - 8 bounce I have I’m going to bend 2 weak or stick with my Vokey as it wasn’t quite as good. I think with a touch more bounce it will be good. These are awesome sticks. Can’t wait to throw my TI S400 in them.

WIlson Staff are the most underrated golf equipment company out there. Their quality/price ratio makes them every bit as good as the top four. My back up set is all W/S. I would highly recommend anyone give the C300 fairways and hybrids a look, and I'm probably one of the few that will rave about the Cortex. Even my ball of choice is the Duo Professional. I just picked up a very hard to find set of C300 forged. New for $500. GT was selling them off, and was finally able to find a set. To GT's credit, they shipped them directly to my house.

The D7 driver is beautiful, sounds and feels great, has a slightly lighter build but remains very balanced and easy to swing fast. Wilson’s best driver IMO. Sets up beautifully behind the ball. Head is about 5-7 grams lighter than others but so are the shaft and grip. It all works really well.

I have almost pulled the trigger on one of these shortened an inch with a 70g hzrdus shaft at 9* many many times. But I have an EF that I got cheap from CPO at the begining of winter that is making me feel guilty and preventing the last click. Temptation is real.

I picked up a 9 degree brand new for $199. Tried a demo and could not pass it up. I sure hope I hit it as well on a course because I really like the look and feel. The kevlar woven into the composite crown helps the sound and the front-ish weighting in the 9 degree is pretty low spin. Does not matter to me that it is a glued hosel. Gives it better feel and a 9 degree driver with slight draw bias is all I want. I thought I might notice the lighter build but made no difference except a little easier to swing.

I really like the Staff Model Blades in the simulator. They carry 5-10 yards farther than my JPX 919 tour. Feel is incredible. The only problem: the stores near me only have the fitting carts, no actual full sets of irons. I might have just ordered them sight unseen (they were that good), but I don't think you can rely on them being a 'bargain' relative to the other manufacturers these days. They are charging top prices because they are top quality equipment.
