Best time to plan a golf trp to AL/MS/KY ?

Thinking about a possible trip to this part of the states in a year or two. What is the best time to come ?

Possible itinerary might be to arrive in Memphis, play Mirimichi/TPC , go to Nashville, then Sweetens Cove/Sewanee at Chattanooga, dropping in to Alabama and some RTJ Trail then across to MS with the Rabbit and Old Waverly before going back to Elvisland. Maybe two weeks. Other courses to consider?

I gather the best RTJ courses are at Capitol, Grand National, Ross Bridge and Cambrian Ridge. Correct?

TPC Southwind is private, so be sure you consider that. Dancing Rabbit is a good choice.Sweetens Cove is nice, but only 9 holes.RTJ Courses: Each venue has multiple 18s, except Ross Bridge (which I think is a bit overrated). May also want to consider RTJ courses in Huntsville and Florence. Those are between Nashville and Bham. Oxmoor Valley is close to Ross Bridge and has two solid 18s.Def suggest Farmlinks south of Birmingham. May or October are prime months. Dec-Feb will likely be wet with dormant Bermuda on most courses. Summer is hot, but the grass will be thriving. Let me know ifI can help with any more questions.

Thanks Bush. Farm Links is now in the plan, it looks the goods. Might have to drop TPC but Mirimichi has good wraps. I was thinking of Ross Creek Landing as a stop between Memphis and Nashvlle - do you know anything about it? Also we can do 9h at Sweetens Cove coupled with 9h at Sewanee which seems a good pair. Also I thought of a diversion from Nashvlle to Olde Stone in Bowling Green, KY. Nashville itself seems a little underdone for good golf. Coming from Australia we might also have a chance to get on the Honors Course which would be a bonus. If it comes off this will be a great little golf/music combo.

Personally, I think you can probably forgo golf in both Nashville and Bowling Green and not miss anything. Go to Nashville for Broadway and Second Avenue and then head towards Sweeten's Cove with a stop at Sewanee to play that nine on your way down. Gil Hanse redo that is very fun and very walkable.

May into June would be when I would target coming. Bermuda fairways should be filling out, greens, if bent should still be in good shape. The other time would be first or second week of October. Bermuda still good to play from, greens will have recovered, courses less crowded.

2nd may to june time period, ... less chance of rain than in april ... i have a monthly membership at the oxmoor rtj in b'ham ... would check maintenance schedules as they are already listed for 2020, though if you pm me prior to your arrival i can give you a first hand report on oxmoor ... there is a hanse course at the old waverly site - mossy oak - that is ranked #1 in mississippi by top100 website, and its reviews mention bunkering similar to mckenzie's in australia ... might want to check that out ... fallen oak is usually ranked #1, and is usually found on top 100 lists for the US, but it's by the gulf and you must stay a night or two at the hotel to get a tee time ... "capital" is a site with 3 courses, same as "grand national" which has 2 ... so you might want to read up on which courses are best and decide to split time between 2 sites ... generally speaking, the combo two at grand national are considered better than any other combo two, though most are at least good, and a few are quite good ... grand national and capital sites would take more time to get to from sewanee/cove than if you were heading to oxmoor or ross in b'ham, though by only 2 hours at most ... could always throw out a bone and check with some private clubs along the way ... don't know if you'd get on birmingham country club (ross) or shoal creek (nicklaus), but you never know ...

Alas, Ross Creek Landing is no more. It was the best of the Bear Trace Courses in Tennessee but in a remote location and did not receive enough play. It was my favorite course in the state of Tennessee.

Sweetens Cove is fun, but is 9 holes. Go around a second time with different tees or about 25 minutes away do Sewanee Golf Course. It is also 9 hole, and an excellent course after a Gil Hanse redesign.

Hope this helps.

If you are thinking of getting on at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, you MUST have a member get you on...not getting on any other way. Now if you get past this point, I HIGHLY recommend this course. Its the most beautiful course I've ever been on and always ranked in top 2 in the State of Ky, usually behind Valhalla...but I can say this, I've been on both and take away the tradition of Valhalla and I honestly believe Olde Stone wins the argument. Such beautiful sights from all the holes. One last thing, its also one of the HARDEST courses I've ever played...SUPER Fast greens that roll PURE, and rough you better not be in.

Good luck with your travels.
