Mizuno RB Tour Balls

I recently purchased a set of clubs from Mizuno and they included a sleeve of Mizuno RB Tour balls. Has anyone played these? Thoughts?

Yep. Bought a dozen of the X and they played great. I never hit them into a monitor, but they seemed to me to be the lowest spinning urethane ball I have ever played. Had to switch back to the ProV1 to get more predictable results. Hit long off the tee, but ran out a little more than I was used to on the greens. Nothing unmanageable, but I didn't want to have to plan around it. Other than that, it was a very nice ball.

I went through a couple dozen over the past season and found them to be a good ball, but there are definitely cover issues. Had a couple get marked up after simply landing in a firm fairway.

 

I went back to the Prov1 (and I'm a Mizuno fan).

Durability is a deal breaker for me, at least hold together for 18 before retirement to the shag bag.

I didnt realize they even had a ball until I watched a review of the 2019 PGA show. Sounds like durability is an issue so that right there throws me out.

The covers have been reworked since the balls were released.

It was posted on Twitter by Mizuno Golf Canada’s head guy. I also have a friend who is a Mizuno Golf rep who told me the same info.

Pretty good ball

i like it with the wedges! Can really make them dance and great on windy days

I played each ball in Myrtle Beach last year. These were short. Shockingly short over the ProV1 and the X. They were great in the wind though, but the distance loss was a complete deal breaker. I had such high hopes for these too.

The independent tests show these balls spin up to 400 RPM more, that will cost you a little distance. I wouldn't expect you to lose more than 4-5 yards though, and on a course that's going to be nearly impossible to see.

I didn't expect to lose that much distance. I teed up a ProV1 on one hole after hitting the RB and it flew past it by a LOT. I did the same on another hole with the RB-X and the V1X. There was no comparison. But like I said, they did hold the wind better.

That kind of anecdotal test really doesn't tell you anything. There are so many variables that go into that. Unless you're a tour pro, you're going to need to hit hundreds of shots with a ball before you can really tell which one goes further.

You should watch for a sale of the Homna tour ball, golf town will randomly have them at 50% off. Felt similar to the TP5

That may be so, and you're probably right. But when you're spending your own funds on a ball you have to kind of go with your gut and see how it performs for you. For me it wasn't enough to keep trying it. For someone else, it will probably work out for them. It was just shocking and I decided to go back what I knew.

I tested the Mizuno Tour X ball against the Zstar the other day. I LOVED the Mizuno off the irons because I’m pretty low spin naturally, and these spun a lot for me on the irons and felt soft..... but unfortunately it also spun more on the driver and became really noticeable when my left to right miss started missing even farther. The Srixon would move left to right also, but the Mizuno would move a little more.

I may keep the Mizuno sleeve in my bag and use them on some par 3’s.

Higher spin off the driver will actually make your left right miss stay more stable most of the time. Assuming you put the same spin axis on the ball with your swing, the one with more backspin will actually stay straighter. It's not spin that causes a shot to curve, it's the spin axis and that it determined by the delivery conditions of your club, not the ball.

Try the RB Tour. It’s only slightly lower spin but may be low enough it help take out some curve.

very good performing balls, but as others mentioned its the worst ball ive ever played durability wise.

 

I loved the performance of the RB Tour X. it had the most spin of any ball I tested which for me is a good thing... but I cant say enough how terrible the cover is. First hole I ever used them I hit driver in the fairway, 6 iron to the green. Mark my ball and has a huge scuff. Without losing a ball I went through the remaining dozen in under 3 rounds

 

Some say the cover has been reformulated but I haven't bothered trying again b/c I ended up loving the Bridgestone B XS.

I played one sleeve. I had high hopes and wanted to love them but I didn’t. Performance was ok but durability was a major issue. I actually had one smile at me which I haven’t seen since the old balata days

I've played a dozen and like them, durability wise yes the scuff a little but i just replaced it with a new ball, no big deal. soft and spinny, maybe not as long as the TaylorMade but felt just as good. 4-5 yards means nothing to me, i would compare it to the callaway supersoft, which i like. i would say definitely longer than the srixon and better feeling than the prov's. id give mizzy a couple of years and they will get it right..

I'm not sure they need more time. It's not like this is actually their first ball. They've had balls available in Europe and Japan for a long time. They just finally brought it to North America.
