Launch monitors under $500

Recommended Posts

Not sure but there is more captures as well like dynamic loft. I assumed a lot are calculated especially in an indoor settings and the pure cost of the unit vs quad for example. In terms of discounts SkyTrak gives one each holiday season and the regular Mevo you could find $50 (10%) often. Rumors say this can read club head data but they locked it down. I know I’ll get one just debating to when

Simple answer is yes.

Trackman and Mevo(+) are doppler based units. Trackman has the telsa under the hood while the Mevo+ is more like a nice sedan.

GC Quad is a 4 camera based system. 2 camera for ball and 2 for club data. FS sells different packages that enables diff features.

It might be more accurate, but the question is will it fit your fits. Most people dont need quads or Trackman. If your fitting 5 people a day thats a different story.

I have a GC2 and TGC 2019 in the garage. Its pretty accurate to my game.

My two kids have a Mevo ($500) and they love it for the range. It doesnt give side spin, but on the range I can see that. I cant see backspin or ballspeed.

PM if you want videos taken from the Mevo.

I don’t think I could spend 2k on this especially given the fact there are plenty of ways to get time on a trackman. I also think focusing on ball flight rather then numbers is more productive on the range.

I know for some they can’t always hit on a range. We can hit outside on the range year round so no need for simulator either.

the most useful feature is going to be distance and the regular mevo will give you that.

I know that but for those of with a range and good weather there is not much need to pay 2k for a launch monitor. Personally $500 is lot too but being able to get approx distances on a range is helpful. Launch angle and club head is nice but I found unless you are doing a swing change it is not really needed.

i also would question it’s accuracy unless you can use it outdoors. I been surprised that even a track man can sometimes have bad data or connection issues.

The data points this gives are well beyond what Skytrack gives and blows out the basic mevo. Dynamic loft, spin loft, aoa a ton more, no basic $500 monitor would give that. I don't think distance is the most useful number, distance is a cause and effect of other numbers. Now if you have access to a trackman on a regular basics then no need for it of course, plus you can do your own ball fittings all sorts of advantages to a portable launch monitor with the data parameters it has, you just have to determine if its worth the $2K or not. But Skytrack going to have to now release version 2 to compete with this.

Launch angle is one of the most important data points. Distance really doesn't mean a lot if you don't know what the launch angle is as it is only projected through ball speed. Understanding the launch angle can narrow in what the true distance is and optimize the club. That launch angle also helps determine what the spin rate is. At 95 mph club head speed launching at 9.9 degrees is going to give you a carry of 207. At 95 mph and 15 degrees it is going to be a carry of 231. That is a huge difference.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

i Have access to a trackman and really only work on launch angle under watch of an instructor. For day to day practice it isn’t needed Much better to watch ball flight. It easy to get acces to trackman for anyone look around. For the money it better to basically rent some time or see an instructor who has one.

i have the original mevo to me the only thing that is good for is Approx distance. it is good enough you can play with the numbers. It has been really good device in helping pin down distances in a growing kid.

from the sounds of it you probably still need to put those stickers on for accuracy.

Really like the Mevo+ and the price point is palatable. The biggest issue for me will still be whether having to use the sticker dots are required to get accurate information. At home with our net in the backyard, putting stickers on would not be an issue. Plus, at home we hit decent quality balls (a mix of ProV1, Callaway, Taylormade, Srixon). At our range, let's just say they are below average.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

yes to get the best possible numbers you should use them, it helps only when hitting indoors with limited flight. When hitting outdoors on a range you wouldn't have to use them. I have never used them with my mevo and the all the numbers seem pretty accurate to me, although I do plan to add them to a few balls just for indoor use. With our without it the data the mevo+ gives is a ton for that price range.
