Played Falcon Dunes at Luke AFB yesterday. What a perfect AZ day. This is why we live here! Course is one of my favorite Air Force base courses I have played (and I have played many)!

Conditions were very good with the fairways being near perfect. My wife commented that the grass was so good it looked fake. The greens rolled quick, but way too many people not fixing their divots. That’s a shame. Bunkers

were dry heavy powdery sand in pretty good condition. Pace of play was spot on. Very, very friendly staff too.

Any Veteran can play and bring up to 7 guests. Well

worth the $60 I paid.

In case you were curious...Falcon Dunes, Grayhawk Talon and Aguila (which I believe are 3 of the only courses you thought were worth another play) are all Gary Panks designs. DUde knows how to make a fun golf course.

Nice to see Falcon Dunes in better shape, I played it in November and have stayed away since, it was in terrible shape.

 

500 Club yesterday, fairways and greens are in good condition. Bunkers leave a bit to be desired, that's the usual out there. Tee'd off at 1220, got around in 3:15, an insanely good pace for a Sunday!!

Poston Butte yesterday (another Gary Panks design) was in awesome shape yesterday, not a single thing to knit pick, great shape and great course.

That is a haul even from Gilbert. Worth the drive? Houses on the course? Pics don’t show much. Thinking about going this Saturday.

It’s a haul but I don’t mind it, Conditions are fantastic and we paid $55 at 10am, which I’ll take after seeing toka for $80, power Ranch for $130, lots of just stupid prices

For the price and condition totally worth the drive. I play it 2x a month at least.

The houses are unobtrusive and are closest only on the tee boxes.

Thanks for the feedback. Weather will be amazing at sunny and 75. On my radar for this Sat. It sounds good and the pics on their website make it look like a course I would like. Someone posted I like Panks courses and he is correct. I seem to score well at those layouts.

A simply wonderful day at Troon CC. I can't thank my host @az2au enough for the invite. Gorgeous course. Tough, but fair. Fantastic conditions. Great company. The round flew by.

Excellent pics @Argonne69 . Great day in high winds. People think it isn't windy out here but we had a 2-3 club wind a large portion of the day that made for some tough going and unpredictable results. Absolutely great day though and glad I had to opportunity to get out before you head back!

Nice! I played Troon CC some years back when I was still in the golf business....solid course....one of only a handful of desert courses I actually like.

They did however that was last year. The greens are in great shape and they were double rolling them about a week ago time I played.

Trilogy GC at Power Ranch today. Decent layout. Good use of bunkering. Par 5s were tough, as were a few of the par 3s. Good mix of holes overall. Generous fairways. Never felt pinched by the surrounding housing. Paid $60 for a GolfNow Hot Deal.

Fairways were in great shape, although there were a few bare patches in places. Rough was thin in many places. Greens looked great, but my lord they were slow. Probably rolling 7 or 8. At first I blamed the wet conditions, but they never got faster. Sand was wet, but very playable. I'd rate it a 4.

Course is very good for the price. Greens are a little thin in spots but roll fine.

Played Aguila for the first time. Thought I played it years ago, but I have never been here. Conditions were excellent for a city course. Greens rolled true and pretty quick. Layout is great and makes a good round.

Here is my issue. A 5 hour round because there were four groups of mini tour players (we were told) ahead of us that held up the entire course because they thought they could drive the greens on this short Par 4’s and get on in two on all Par 5’s. I unfortunately had to watch them on several tees because they waited so much. They weren’t good enough to hold up the entire course. The Marshall should have told them to speed it up.

Sorry for the rant. Great city course and had a blast with the guys I was paired up with. Painful waiting on guys that thought they were better than they were. If this was you... you can’t carry it 300 yards!!

They have a weekly skins game on Saturday afternoons, that’s what the hold up it. They have to hole all putts etc etc. A majority of the players are very good, low score is usually 64-66.

Understand. Won’t be back on a Sat there. Thank those kids for ruining everyone’s else’s round. Play that game during the week. Us weekend hacks don’t enjoy 5 hour rounds.

It is interesting. I've had similar discussions with "kids" that play the mini-tours out at DF. They feel like the majority of the members are crazy because 3:30 is a long round. They are used to playing 5+ hours rounds in tour events. They don't like playing during busy times because they know members will be on their butt.
