Master's ticket question

Recommended Posts

I've read about every master's thread on this forum but still had a question I was hoping y'all could help me with.

Was planning on crossing the Master's off my bucket list this year. My original plan was go fly in to Atlanta on Tuesday night or Wednesday early, wait for the ticket prices to drop on Washington and go Wednesday afternoon to walk the course and get the merch out of the way. I was going to go Thursday as well, buying the tickets off of Stub (or the like) and then focus fully on the golf but realized that if I buy now, and it happens to get rained out, I'm SOL. My wife would not just divorce me but probably murder me so that's not really a viable option. Anyway..

So my question is, with tickets to Thursday being around $2800-3000 right now on Stub, will it be somewhat close to that same range if I buy off of a scalper on Washington (From Butch as an example) on the morning/week of? I know it would just be an educated guess but I feel like there are a lot of people here with experience in this area.

Thanks in advance.

You'll get all sorts of answers and just no way to know, especially in the Tiger back at The Masters era 3.0 or whatever it is. I think if folks with experience on the street last year posted there would be something to go on, so hope they do.

Those prices you are seeing are easily more than twice (at $2800) than I would have had to pay for a Thursday tournament ticket even on Tuesday afternoon from Butch in 2016, who is the person I bought my "scalped" ticket from for Tuesday afternoon shortly after lunchtime. But that was 2016.

Thanks Hawk,

Yah, IIRC from one of your previous posts, you mentioned how much you spent total for a practice round and a tournament round for yourself and your niece? daughter? Anyway, I remember it being somewhat reasonable but with Tiger back in the mix I was fully expecting it to be more.

I'm really killing two bucket list items (Masters + Tiger) with one stone and so am OK with paying a premium. But even though my wife is understanding (to say the least) with my golf expenditures, I don't know how much more than $3000 USD she'll be ok with since $3000 USD is around half a million Canadian dollars =|

Hoping for some 2019 experiences..

Yep, oldest daughter. We had a blast!

Be prepared - Wednesday is the par 3 contest and that is the most expensive practice round day of the week. You might consider going Tuesday, and justifying the high price on Thursday with the savings from Wednesday! My wife would buy that -okay she would give my a knowing smile, lol. Buy the tickets on the street from Butch or even from Stubhub once you are there and see the forecast. Now there is the issue of an extra night of lodging, but probably still save money vs. buying Wednesday and Thursday. If it is bucket list, then it's worth it! I'm good at spending other people's money. ;-)

Anyway, hope you get some insights from folks.

I was slightly worried about the par 3 and the course closing earlier but thought the course might be emptier which would be nice. I'll take a look at flights going in a day earlier =)

Makes for a nice quiet walk for sure! But, you are correct, it closes much earlier and some guys play early and some don't play at all before the par 3 - kind of depends on who you hope to see, although that Wednesday ticket will get you into the Par 3 - we had a blast watching it, but we had that advantage of being on the property from early afternoon Tuesday until dusk. No way IMO to get the whole course walked, smell the roses, see some good practice by variety of pros on the course, get merchandise AND see a good part of the Par 3 - tough day to crowd all that in. Others may very well disagree. Only guy on the range later in the day on Wednesday . . . . .

My plan Wednesday was to see the course only. I don't care about following anyone really. You think that would leave me enough time to walk 18 and take pics and soak it all in? Plus hit the shop?

Thursday was going to be for player watching. Mostly Tiger stalking!

I think so. We actually didn't see all the course on Tuesday and after the par 3 when the main course was empty walked the bits we didn't see - up one, down two, etc. Nobody kicked us off and we wandered for quite a bit and there were some course folks out doing some stuff. I honestly don't know on Wednesday when they close it early for practice what the "official" policy is on people out wandering around, though and wouldn't want you to get caught short because we were lucky, lol. Maybe someone will chime on that - I hope so!
