Miura Hayate driver

FLOGMR

Recommended Posts

Hi guys....just a quick note about this new driver.... I have had one for about 3 months now and love it. Mine is a "Low launch" (9.7*) with a GD Tour AD 50 gram shaft "R" flex tipped 2 inches to firm it up.... Built to 45.25" D-1 swing weight with the 10 gram weight in the weight port.

I was at the range this morning and had a try at the new Callaway Epic driver....they were having a Callaway demo day.....and.....

Launch angle on both the Epic and Hayate were the same....approx. 15*........ spin rate on the Hayate was approx 100 rpm less (My spin rate average was 2250 rpm) and the carry distance with the Hayate was 6 yards more with my swing.....I am 71 years young so no passive brag by mentioning distances .... range balls and a head wind at about 10* Celsius :swoon:

Love the new Hayate :taunt:

i'm Miura fanboy and just picked up my second set of irons.....but i can't get my head around justifying the price for JDM drivers.

With irons there's an element of heritage and feel' to the clubs. Woods in my mind are more about technology and R&D.

is there really anything else that makes Miura driver special?

Good looking driver. I've been curious as to how they performed. The reviews are scarce.

I see you got some other bags in the background...what ya got in there? :)

Got a set of CB 57 irons in the tour bag...HB and NEO hybrids and a full set of SIT woods...a few extra wedges and putters.

In the blue bag in the corner is a full bag of Yonex from about 2001....got a vintage set of forged blades with persimmon woods....just the usual golf junky stuff :taunt:

I got it from Miura Golf Inc. ....they came in white, red and blue....don't have them anymore....I have had that one for just over a year. To save you asking I also got the Miura Tour bag and the Miura Sun Mountain carry bag from them as well.

  • 1 month later...

Just added the Hayate 3 wood and 5 wood to my bag..... Loving them right from the git-go. Both of them also have GD Tour AD shaft as well......... DI 6 SR flex tipped to get the right numbers for my swing. I tried moving the weights around ....heavier in the heel...heavier near the toe and tried some much heavier weights than they come with.... For me the stock set-up seems to work best... 8 grams near the heel 4 grams at the toe.

I hit them higher than my previous SIT fairway woods and a bit longer carry..... hard to quantify it on the range but in 2 rounds it seems like about 5-8 yards more carry off the ground and maybe about 10 to 15 more off a tee shot with a little higher trajectory on both...all good!! :swoon:

BTW ...My 3 wood is 15.5* and 5 wood is 18.2*....both have square face angle.

Hi Flogmr

I see you have the new Miura Genesis irons as do I; just turned 70 myself with an index a bit more than double yours. Perhaps we are holding up the super seniors division! I was fit for my irons with the Paderson kevlar shafts at Club Champion in LA and the result is the best set of irons (only 5-PW of course) I have owned since I played CF4000 as a college player a half century ago ! Yikes. I write to learn a bit more about the new Miura driver. I am currently playing the M1 with the custom Aldila Rogue I/O shaft. I love the shaft, but I don't much like the feel or sound of the head. Obviously you were fit for yours. Anything else you can add about the driver shaft combo. Where were you fit. And can you say a bit more about the driver in comparison to others you have tried including your previous gamer. And feel free to give distnace off the tee. At our age, you are entitled to brag -- just a little bit!

Thnx

Hi globalguy......... I'll make this fairly easy....My previous driver was a Miura SIT...the one before that was a Miura Precious Edition.... see the pattern?? For the last 10 years I have been the club-maker/fitter for Miura Golf Inc. Obviously I do my own fitting :taunt: Going back further than that all my clubs were Yonex...had 3 different Yonex drivers over a 5-6 year stretch...all great clubs.

Recently I have had the chance to hit (side by side) Callaway Epic and Epic Sub-Zero, Taylor M1 and M2 as well as countless other customer drivers at the range and on the course..........ALL new drivers have exactly the same specs because of the limits set by the rules....it is all nickels and dimes and really comes down to fitting and the right shafts.

In launch monitor testing I found my Hayate was about 6 yards longer than the Cally and Taylors I tried...all in the shaft I'm sure...As you can see I am using GD Tour AD in both my driver and my fairway woods....awesome shafts....but for that price they should be :scare2:

Actual numbers up here in the Pacific North West??? Average about 240 carry (My young friend who has a Hayate as well averages about 315-320) He is a Miura employee too :superman:

Fairway woods are about 195-200 with the 5 wood and 210-220 with the 3 wood. A little more off a tee.

Currently 71 years young......... BUT... have shot my age or better multiple times for each of the last 5 years....there is the "Not so passive brag"

Enjoy the Genesis irons....great clubs!!

Thanks Flogmr!!

I am envious on so many accounts it's hard to know where to begin. I fear the only way I am going to shoot my age going forward is to hold off on posting a handful of last summer's low to mid 70 scores! Alternatively, I can take a membership at a pitch and putt course.

And a fitter for Miura. Hopefully you count your blessings before sleep every night.

I love the GD Tour shafts. I have been happy with the custom Rogue but at 650.00, it's hardly a bargain.

Love the Genesis and now you have piqued my interest in the Hayate!

Hi Flogmr. Maybe you can help me. I recently picked up a Hayate head, 9.4 degree with 1 dot under the M. I understand that you can get heads with 1,2 or 3 dots on them representing high, mid and low launch. I was wondering which one is mine with 1 dot?

Thanks

Hey luckcharms......... you have been given some bad information.... Gee....... how odd on an internet forum. All Hayate drivers have one dot

woods-hayatedr-A.jpg

The "M" on the sole has 3 "arms" just behind the face..

If the dot is under the the arm that is closest to the face then it is a "Low Launch". Typically about 9.4 up to about 9.9

If the dot is under the middle arm it is a "Mid launch"....around 10.5

It the dot is under the rear arm, then it is a "High Launch"..... usually over 11*

I had a high launch mid summer last year....great it you want to hit 200 yd wedge shots

I am guessing for elderly players

The dots don't show well in the pics...but they are there

My current driver is a low launch at 9.7*....and I LOVE it....high long and straight ;)

BTW....all Hayate drivers come with a"Spec" sticker on the face.....gives you actual weight, loft and face angle.

Two different models.... totally different look (See the Miura website).... totally different feel.....both awesome clubs, both with great performance and feel.

Don't forget that a club that feels "Great" to one player may feel like "Crap" to another....... all this discussion of "Feel" in clubs is just a lot of talk.....pick one up and hit it.... then you will know!
