MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

Maybe it's finally taking hold. It was a novel idea when he presented it, and the guys at the time didn't want to rock the boat or bite the hand that fed them. Then along comes Tiger. And more money. And 20 years later, a generation of golfers that grew up with this idea of an elite tour where you could make your year's worth of money in fewer events. Maybe the "kids" are looking to take them up on the idea.

"18-event schedule from January to September with 48-player fields vying for $10 million each week."

That's more cabbage than every other normal tour event, except the majors, WGC, and Players. Even the Tour Championship doesn't have that much cabbage. And I'm sure sponsors will fling cash at them left and right."The original concept featured 54-hole, no-cut events to would be spread around the world while allowing players to still earn world ranking points needed to qualify for major championships and earn endorsement money."

ugh. domes what happened??

the more i think about that "if your handicap is below 10 aim for the middle of the green outside 100 yards" the more i think it makes sense. Except that rule was for below a 10 handicap. i'd like to think i could extend it out some number of yards. maybe 110-115. but even from like 142 with a tucked pin i should be middle of the green or at least significantly shaded toward the middle of the green from there. i played the 8th hole on original well this year. I literally aimed for the back of the middle of the green regardless of the pin. I hit so many crappy shots onto that green or barely off in easy spots to get up and down.

Sorry Domes. That sucks.

I'm sitting waiting on the results of an MRI on my shoulder (possible torn labrum)and trying to figure out when I would schedule a potential surgery. It impacts my daily life a lot more than my golf swing, so if I have to have it done, I'll probably schedule for April when I get back from a FLA golf trip so it'll be healed in time for my next in October.

Domes, recommend the group below. Palm surgery and calf muscle tear and no issues. Also have the doctor below keep an eye on my left knee periodically - too many issues from tennis. I wear a brace on my left knee as it takes the brunt of the swing impact.http://www.theorthocentermd.com/providers/our-doctors/124/Joseph_Hanna,_M.D

Just had a nice little discussion with OCGolfRick in my twitch stream. Which of the Golf Digest instructors would everyone here feel they could work best with?

Let's keep this to Golf Digest instructors only, please. My thought is I would likely work best with Butch Harmon.

Assuming time to practice, accessibility to hands-on instruction and money were no object, I think I'd work best with basically any teacher at that level.

Regardless of swing theory, those guys get recognized for their ability to adapt to the student and produce results.

I've also been able to clear Siegel's pic from my Drafts. Much to Siegel's chagrin.

Don't know Mike. Heard decent things about Steve at PB Dye, but no personal experience. City and I liked Mike OBarsky for a driver lesson/fitting at Blue Mash.

Most knowledgeable and well established pros are going to charge accordingly.

Stole a round out there today at Burke Lake. Initial plan was to meet my brother to hit balls but we decided to just loop it around. For $20, IMO, its worth it. Its a par 3 course but if you play it back you'll play 6-8 shots over 200 yards which, in this cold weather and wind, can definitely be challenging. Weather got a little colder towards the end of the round but it was still fun out there. First round walking with the Trues and damn they are comfortable, definitely appreciate the wider too box too since I usually dont get along with narrower brands like Nike. I would say its in very playable condition and again - its $20 for a Sunday tee time. First round with the Toulon and loving it so far.

When I was in middle and high school, the course I played the most was $18 for 18. Now it's about $30. I wouldn't quite call it a dog track, but it's probably equivalent to East Potomac in conditions. The conditions of courses in this area are generally several steps higher than what I need to go out and enjoy myself. I'd love for there to be a few more courses at the price/condition point between East Potomac or UMD.

Also, I need to write a web scraper to go back and count all the times DC has ever said he loved his putter. $5 says the Toulon doesn't last until handicap season starts in MD.

No bet.

I thought Greendale was $28 during the week in-season but they just raised their rates to $30, $40 on the weekend. Its usually in playable condition other than the bunkers but for $30 its a good walk. I thought Twin Lakes was a little overpriced for the conditions, I think its $15 more than that.

MeatMike 1.0 and I played some largely forgettable golf on Seaside yesterday, but as we're coming up #14, he says "Hey I won't be able to play on the 15th, I'm in New York."

"Oh, cool, why are you going there?"

"I'm going to a Ween concert!"

"A What?"

"Ween! You've never heard of Ween???"

"Nooo...."

"Aw man, you gotta give it a listen, they're great! They've got a huge following!"

"So they're like Phish?"

"Well, kinda, but a little smaller scale. I tried to get CityGame to listen to them, but he didn't like them! It should be right up his alley!"

"Oh, so its like Death Metal, Mastodon kinda stuff?"

"Well no, but its different. They've got a whole album devoted to the sea, its their best one! Its called The Mollusk, listen to it on YouTube when you get home."

"So what are they known for?"

"Well, they had one minor hit in the 90's but mostly they're known for ..... SpongeBob SquarePants."

(OCGolfRick stops his CaddyTek pushcart.)

"Hol up. Their claim to fame is SpongeBob, they invented him?"

"No, see what happened is a guy listened to The Mollusk album and was inspired to create SpongeBob SquarePants. Then they got together and they've made a lot of songs for the show."

"Let me get this straight. You thought CityGame, a known lover of Metal, would like music that's off the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon?"

"Its really witty and fun! I still can't believe his doesn't like it!"

To be fair, I did go home and listen to it. And yes, you feel like you're listening to sea chanteys. You feel you should be on a fishing boat pulling in lobster traps in a white T shirt in pantaloons and a scarf around your neck. A little piratey. Its Ok. Maybe I'd listen to them if I was crabbing, or on a fishing boat doing a singalong.

Its not Mastodon.

In related musical news, what % of people or songs nominated in the big Grammy categories had you at least heard of? Dont have to know the songs but at least have some sort of name recognition of at least the artist or album. I was definitely bordering on 50%.

My wife had it on and at one point there was some dude in a blonde wig with a bunch of other dudes in wigs dancing around and Boyz 2 men were singing with him and I couldn’t understand the words or whether it was supposed to be rap or rock or metal. Whatever it was was awful and it looked like 90% of the audience had whiskey-tango-foxtrot looks on their faces. No idea who the “artist” was but it was bad

Saw part of Lizzo’s performance and thought it was good
