Just received my new putter from the fitting. I play a Spider Ghost center shaft at 34". This is the Truss 2.0. It has the 1/2 shaft offset, so that will be a little different, but if Duane tells me this is the putter I need, then I will go with what he says.

Feels great so far, but I'm headed to the course to roll a few.

Any of you guys get a chance to roll the new Spider S? Interested to hear who they're fitting into that vs Spider X.

I rolled the Spider S. Loved it. Great feel. Looks amazing behind the ball. I like the pure roll insert and have played a putter with insert for 8 years.

The Truss TM2 was a better fit for my stroke.

The face stability from the Truss is real. Stable on both toe and heel hits.

I didn’t get to hit the spider s. The putting station was my last stop and we were a little pressed for time. The first putter I tried other than my own was the x and it was so perfect for me there was no need to try anything else.

That truss looks pretty good at address. It's so odd looking face on so if I saw it sitting in a rack at the PGASS, I doubt I'd pick it up. How does it feel compared to your spider? Any of you get for for blade putters?

No blades 3 of us got spider x and the one in the truss.

Was that not an option or just nobody was fit for it?

It feels really good when I putted it with TP5 balls. The stability in toe and heel misses is surprising. No twisting in the hands. It has the Pure Roll insert, so it feels just like my Spider. The 120g shafter makes the putter head feel a bit lighter, but it is perfect for really fast greens. Lining up the putts was super easy for me. The 1/2 shaft offset is different for me, and since I saw the zero offset today, I was wishing I knew about that first. I will get use to it and I am sure will make enough putts with it.

This putter will earn my Truss.

Basically the way it was explained to us is they know people love the look of blade putters but the average person is losing out on the stability of a putter like a spider. The idea of truss was to make a putter that looks good at address like a blade but has increased stability and forgiveness.

It was an option. If we had objected to the look of spider they would have worked to find something that worked for us in a preferred look but spider x was so good there was no need.

That handicap might drop if you keep rolling it that well.

I came in with a Scotty Cameron California Monterey 1.5 with almost 4 degrees of loft and left with a spider x single bend face balanced putter with 1.5 degrees of loft and went from a 34 to a 35 inch putter. Basically the exact opposite all around.

I rolled the Spider S as well and I loved it. I think it’s by far the best looking putter Taylormade has brought out in quite a while. The 3 lines framed the ball really well for me. If I had gotten fit to a face balanced, that would have been my choice.

according to Duane I need some toe hang which is why we went with the slant neck Spider X. I actually hit a ton of different putters. Black copper line, blades included. My tendency was to aim right and close the club head to get the ball back on line. My aim with the spider X was best once Duane got me in to a better set up position with a slightly more open stance.

Wow, yeah, that's a big difference. What was the Scotty doing that was not as good for you? Why was there so much to change?

I couldn’t bring the face back to square consistently. I was missing the putts to the right and was getting significant launch off the putter face making for a really poor roll. The extra inch of length got me in a better position posture wise and felt more comfortable.

Nice. Sounds like a winner for you. When they fit you for a putter, do they take into account the greens you normally play on? Is that even something that needs to be factored into it?

They do he asked if I usually play on slow or fast greens and factored that into it.

I also came in with a blade putter and was fit into the Spider X. I usually like the look of blade putters, and have played the Spider Tour in the past, so the look wasn't a huge issue for me going form blade to mallet.

The Spider S was really good looking, feel-wise it was similar to the X and the Truss, because the insert is about the same, and everything I hit was the same length with the same grip.

The way Duane described the science behind the Truss putters really stuck with me. He held it face-up and tapped the center of the face pretty hard with his finger, then moved to the toe and heel to show how much off-center hits impact stability. He did this with my putter, the Spiders and the Truss putters, and it you could see how much of a difference it made when there's a lot more weight further back and on the outside of the putter. Even the blade Truss putters vastly more stable than my putter.
