Mine are all adjusted a little weaker and the spin numbers I see from the GCHawk are pretty good. Some examples below:

7i: 6400

8i: 7500

Yeah they're pretty solid! I only ask as most describe them as fairly low spin irons but the lofts are really quite strong for players irons & wondered if it was simply down to the lofts or whether there was something about the design that makes them inherently lower spin

I think they are just a lower spinning head. Have hit them numerous times compared to the Cobra Forgec Tec, and the 785 are consistenly 500 rpms less with the same shafts. They thing is though, the 785s are so consistent on the monitor. Both spin and distance. 10 swings with a 7 iron and every shot is withing 4 yards distance wise, and that is not normal for me.

Yeah you're probably right

I think I'm just interested in seeing the spin differences when the lofts are weakened a couple of degrees, I'd expect a 7 iron to be lofted at 34 degrees, not 32 like the 785s are as standard

Would two degrees even make a noticeable difference?

Another member to the fast growing Srixon family!

Congrats!

Sound like a great combo set!

Un-seating the ‘13 X-Forged is a tall order. That’s sayin something.

Those are two very impressive sets of irons!

I just moved to the 785's from Forged Tecs. I feel the exact same way - my forged tecs would spin more, but my 785's were just so consistent in terms of dispersion.

I shafted up a set of 785's with some Recoil 110 F4's (bad elbows), and they have kicked my P770's out of the rotation. I have not yet experienced wishing for more spin. With this shaft combo, I would not want any more or less zip on the greens. Today on a course I have never played before, I had 3 that pulled back 15ft or more, all adding to my length of putt from where they landed.

They for sure are not as zippy as say a 718 Titleist CB, which for my game is a good thing.

Anybody go from 785 to Z Forged? Wondering how negligible the differences in distance and forgiveness are. I have a blade itch I kinda want to scratch....

I stumbled across a set of 4-6 z785 and 7-Pw zforged. not my desired shaft but i pulled the trigger anyway. I swear the the zforged blades are the easiest blade on the market to hit. I hate looking at numbers on screens to find out if a set is right for me. So i have a quite a few iron sets with shafts and i play them all to find out the winners i can trust to gamble with. I've only played one round with the Srixons and they are very easy to hit. Im used to a Titleist or Apex MB look, so the Zforged look massive to me. They feel great, and play quite well. I noticed no distance loss between the 785 and zforged. Both flew my normal distance. I would recommend to people. Guys in my group where hitting them and liked them as well.

So I ordered my Srixon 785s 2 months ago after getting fit into them with Nippon 130X shafts. During the fitting we went through multiple shafts and finally got to the one that had me dropping 7 irons into a bucket from 190. You could literally lay a towel and cover 5 shots in a row which was amazing. Specs were +1/4 inch, 2 degrees up, and D6 swing weight. All requested when placing my order with them.

I got them in and played 5 rounds with them. While I liked them, I certainly was not getting near the same consistent results. I figured it was winter swing rust (still some probably is) but then I took them to the guy who fit me (who also does building) and the specs were so far out of whack. Swing weights were D0-D1 and lie angle was inconsistent across the set. Haven’t gotten the full report on exactly what they were but I’m just amazed at this. I was kind of ready to give up and move on. Something didn’t feel right and I even had a few REALLY funky shots that went WAY left with the 6 iron - highly unusual for me. He pulled the shafts and spined them and said the 6 and 7 were way out of whack so I’m excited to give these another shot now that they’re actually fit to what I need. I don’t know if my D6 request was too far out of their stock spec so they didn’t even try or what but I expected them to be at least D3 - standard SW.

I’ll be excited to get back out with these and give them another go!

That is pretty disappointing initially, if D6 gave you the best results then D0-D1 would certainly feel off. Best of luck once they are setup correctly!

Don’t quote me on this because I don’t know for sure with that particular shaft as I haven’t personally built anything with it, but often shafts with that much stiffness in the butt will come out very light on SW. The KBS Tour X, C Taper X, and $Taper X all need heavy tip weights as the balance points make them come out light. I weighed an $Taper 130X in a 716 MB head without a tip weight and it came out to C8. Very possible a similar thing happens with Nippon 130. Now that said, Srixon is already .25 over and you went extra on top of that. Knowing that and weighing during the build they should easily have been able to hit D6. That and the lie angles is inexcusable and a sloppy build IMO. I hope you aren’t having to drop a bunch of coin on that builder as Srixon should be redoing the set for you.

After a week and a half of consternation I finally bit the bullet on these 4 to PW. I hit them repeatedly last week at the local golf shop trying to talk myself out of loving them, but I couldn't. I looked for them used with the Pro Modus 105 gram stiff shaft, and other than some shop warn on eBay for maybe $50-$100 off full retail, I couldn't find anything. To me that means they are losing their Japanese influence because those dudes love the 105 gram shafts. Anyway, I even went full retail at the local shop because they were patient, and let me hit an innumerable amount of balls with various head and shaft combinations and got me into these.

I guess it'll be a week or so until they come in, which is obviously fine. Thanks for any input you guys have provided regarding these.

I know they were a good purchase because two hours later and I don't even feel the list bit of regret.

Just soooooooo much money. Ugh.

I've had my combo set (see sig) for a year and a half now. Coming from MP-32, 60, and 59. Feel like 785/585 gives me a bit more distance (due to lofting I'm sure) vs my Mizzy's but also more forgiveness without sacrificing feel. Also like the turf interaction. I also like that I could blend the set to give me more confidence in the 4/5 585 irons. Pleased with the decision.

For those who’ve switch from AP2 models to the Srixon z785 irons... any regrets? My biggest concern would be giving up the amount of forgiveness the AP2 provide vs. possibly less forgiveness in the z785 irons.

I have owned both 718 AP2 and z785. I must say I have to disagree about the 785 being more forgiving but it is physically a bit bigger which makes it look more than it is. If you look at the MPF ratings for both, the important categories such as MOI, CDIM (how far the sweet spot is from the hosel), and VCOG (vertical center of gravity) all say the AP2 is superior in terms of forgiveness. Anecdotally I found the AP2 weirdly forgiving on toe and thin strikes for how small it is. With all of that said I think that the 785 is quite a forgiving iron for the decent iron player. I don't wish I had any more or less with my Srixons. Easy to work the ball, lots of power, and plenty of help on miss hits.

If you're thinking of changing I would say hit the 785 if you can. I prefer the Srixons in every category except maybe short iron aesthetics. They are MUCH lower spinning than AP2. I'd say in the players CB category they are pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum in that regard. If you find you're giving up a bit of distance due to spin with the AP2 and you have no trouble hitting the ball high the Srixons could work great for you. They have a flatter flight and are much easier to control in the wind I find. The 785 also feels SO much better than AP2 - the feedback is incredible. The turf interaction is great on both but nothing touches the V sole in that regard for me. Srixon irons are underrated and even though I still think Mizuno make the best blades I believe Srixon makes the best players CBs on the market.

At your level I don't think you'll have any trouble with them. There is a reason so many guys on the PGA play Srixon 745 or 785. Also if you watch the Korn Ferry there are a ridiculous amount of players using them - many non staff.

Have you hit both yet? I have, and found the AP2s more forgiving. Feel is maybe a hair better with the Srixon, but not by much.
