Catching up : Never "got" Ween. Too gimmicky.

I'm not either a fan or hater of hot yoga. The only hot yoga I've done is a Core Power class, which is different (I think) than Bikram. I do like a warm studio, but the Core Power class was too much.

Speaking of Oahu, just got back. The dumbest : the Kobe story hit like 7 AM Sunday morning (roughly. The morning. Whenever). Our flight back is 6 PM. It's everywhere, all day. News, radio, internet. Dude behind me on the airplane is wearing a Kobe jersey. The flight attendant goes up to him -- real somber -- "I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but did you hear about Kobe?"

I have military friends who were living in Virginia for like 2 years and I never went to visit them. The got sent to Hawaii last Summer and we were like, "we're coming". Stayed with them on weekends. Stayed in a VRBO on North Shore Monday - Friday and two of those days, the waves were HUGE. We saw a junior contest at Sunset one day, and just watched some guys at Pipeline two of the days. The waves were so gnarly at Pipeline on Thursday that there were about 5 guys in the water at any give time. And we saw 2 snapped boards and a couple more leashes. You had to have a death wish.

I didn't even THINK about playing golf. Caught a little of Farmers on Thursday.

That is a sweet SG, you don't see that finish very often. Make sure your wear the Taylormade RAW hat when you play it.

If you're ever interested in a Big Baby Taylor, shoot me a message. I haven't played my guitars in more than a few years and sold my Strat last year to someone who actually wanted to play.

The most amazing thing to me about watching some of the surfing on the North Shore of Maui - aside from the size of the waves - was how on some of the breaks, there was no beach. In other words if you rode it all the way in, it was just rocks. It was bizarro. But the day we were there there was a windsurfing competition and that was very cool.

When we went a few years ago, we took an intro surf lesson at a tiny spot not far from Waikiki. Small gentle waves, but it was on reef that was only a few feet down. You could stand on it. It was shallow enough that if it was a pool you'd have lifeguards yelling at you for diving headfirst. So even for small gentle waves you still had to watch how you fell. That's a big nope from me. The reef at Pipeline looks nuts.

Watching surfing at the North Shore was probably my favorite thing about my trip. It's mesmerizing.

Most of the big breaks on North Shore Oahu have at least a sandy strip for beach, but I've seen places on Big Island where there's no beach to speak of. . .just breaking on reefs/rocks.

In about year 2002(?) we went to Big Island with in laws and stayed at a resort. There was a break right there, and wife and I were like, "derp, we'll just go boogie boarding". it didn't take long to figure out how dumb this idea was. The waves just crashed right on crazy coral/rocks/whatever.

We when got out of the water that day, she stepped on a sea urchin. . .full weight, right on the heel. It basically ruined the rest of the trip for her. It made her sick to her stomach. She couldn't put weight on it. Her heel was filled with broken spines and I was tweezing them out of her foot months later.

It's no joke there. And very few beaches are guarded. The only place that was guarded was one day we went to a beach where you had to be (or be with) a service member. On the south east coast of Oahu, there were a lot of sandy, calm beaches with clear water.

This isn't her, but I just google "stepped on sea urchin". My recollection was that hers looked even worse than this. . .

btw, the worst part of this trip has already come to fruition. none of the guys in the follow memes are coming. and siegel still is. sigh.

It is tough to rhyme things with "Manor". I'll keep racking my brain to come up with something.

It's also amazing that we have by my count- 5 new guys coming. A reminder to the newbs to pack baby oil, your favorite leather outfit, and manscape a little.

Rick likes to talk tough but he is very gentle. He made my first time very pleasurable and gave me confidence I could do it again and perform at a high level.

Only thing that came to my mind was a song from The Muppets. Sometimes I play like a muppet - all arms and no legs. My proposal then being #ManorMuppets2020

On the betting side, we attempted to last year, but it was quickly abandoned given the weather conditions and number of different courses we played (ie, some guys played #2, skipped Mid Pines, etc.)

On the after hours adult side, well, you'll just have to wait and see for yourself.

Definitely should have made an "In Memoriam" Oscars-style vid for the 2019 Pinehurst Five. Will be pouring out some of my Mad Dog 20/20 in your honors.

Funniest thing that Google suggests when you search for Mad Dog is the Urban Dictionary definition. "As magestic as the cascading waters of a drain pipe..."

Sounds like it was written by OCGolfricky himself. Mayhap it was.https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Mad%20Dog%2020%2F20&amp=true&defid=5122710

PROPOSAL: Submitted for your approval. Be Gentle, I spent well in excess of 90 seconds putting this together:

For The Cradle only:

POD9Z0UIM31L.jpg(PS I love this logo. No matter what we choose to do, we should incorporate it.)

Skin Game on the Cradle only: $18 Buy in , no one is forced in to doing it as the math works out no matter what. $9 goes to Skins Pot, $9 to the FIRST Hole in One made at the Cradle. If no one makes a Hole in One, , the other $9 goes back into the Skins Pot. Carryovers are a yes. Two tie- all Tie. To Explain further, assuming a full 15 person field:

OCGolfRick and Siegel both birdie #1, all other competitors par or worse- Hole #1 is a push for all.

OCCantChip and AltSean both birdie #2- all other competitors par or worse- Hole #2 is a push for all.

Eagle1997 Birdies #3, all others make par or worse- Eagle 1997 Wins Hole #1 ($15) , Hole #2 ($15) and Hole #3($15) for a total of $45. Should no one make a HIO in the competition- This is doubled to $90.

Remember- we will play the Cradle several times. This will go throughout the competition. I expect most holes will be a push, BUT there's always a couple that won't be. We may find ourselves with only 1 or 2 skins payout, with some pretty big money going to those guys. That is the fun of the competition.

YB01YWRY8UG7.jpgWe can toy with this a little.- We could cut the payout to everytime we play the Cradle- so let's say we play the Cradle 3X- each round could be a Buy In of $3- with payout going to just that round. If no HIO, we could make that last round worth 4x the amount per hole.

FAQ:

-Why $18? Why Not $20 or some other number?

Because I have an Eastern Shore Education and I don't feel like paying someone $21.33 or something dumb. $18 makes the math simple Following the KISS rule here- which my father always told me was Kause I Said So.

-No handicaps?

No, the longest hole out there is around 115 I think. I'll take on a scratch from 115 on pride alone. You should too.

-What about the overall winner of score?

Meh. A congratulatory handshake, but this is a Skins Game.

-Any payout for Thistle Dhu?

I don't think so, we should commission Tex to make a silver medal or something. Make the guy stand there while the cash is being handed out like Butler Cabin, standing there awkward.

-What happens someone hits a SECOND hole in one?

-A hearty slap on the back and congratulations from myself, along with the statement "I bet you wish you hit that earler!"

-Who will chair?

I can if you want. Yes, I can bring enough cash if you're one of those Venmo/PayPal folks.

-God forbid, what happens if no one wins a skin if every hole is pushed, should we go with a Carryover throughout the competition?

-Hole #9 closest to the pin. The Nightmare Scenario- but with $270 on the line for that one shot it'll be cool.

I will now take questions/discussion/personal insults.

Very cool idea, Rick. Simple, and lucrative.

On a semi-related note, I caught the first episode of Tourist Sauce: Carolinas last night. I'm already liking it better than the Ireland season. They're not hitting you over the head with mind-numbing commentary on golf course architecture from Tron. They really kept a pretty good focus on the game they've got going for this season, which is pretty amusing. They all start the trip with 100 singles, and bet them as they please, until there's one man standing with all the cash at the end. I'm not sure how they're going to enforce that (i.e., somebody holds a bunch until the end, are they stuck betting it all at a certain point?), but I'm going to enjoy watching it play out.

Tron is continuing his ascent in my eyes. Aside from his course architecture talks, I actually quite enjoy him in the video content. I like his scrappy game, self-admitted chipping vulnerability, and even his role as the villain at times. His degenerate gambling tendencies are also great to watch. He and Neil essentially out-gambled DJ and Soly in the first episode, which was pretty funny.
