How soon before Spieth drops out of the top 50

CupCup

Duval didn't retire at the conclusion of the 2001 season. Heck in 2009 he tied for 2nd at the US Open.... He just stop winning in 01. IMO same will be said of Spieth from 17 on.......

Oh and before my comments are misconstrued... I believe Jordan will remain on tour and continue to amass a ton of money.... My best guess is 1.5 - 2.5 per year over year. He just no longer will be revered as one of the best golfers in the world. Those days a long gone....

I just see that as opposite. A guy doesn’t come out and be visually in distress , so often , fighting a swing change and not care or be complacent. It’s literally impossible in my mind to think that.

you are describing something that I don’t see. At all

and no in the first part. Paddy was talking about his swing from the video. Not now. Now is awful. In that video it was a thing of genius in my mind.

There is a difference between not caring and complacent imo. Complacent is in the preparation and thought process. He can still care about the results. Which leads to the next issue...caring to much about the result of each shot, and complaining when it is less than ideal, is not the ideal mind sight for great golf. Hit your best shot, find it and hit the next shot. He seems to be lost in the quagmire of “what did I do wrong” on shots instead of focusing on what he needs to do right to create desired results.

Just the opinion of one guy on the internet.

Nice, Paddy!

This guy agrees....

"Is Jordan Spieth slowly becoming the next David Duval?

Call me a masochist; call the mere suggestion of such a comparison to be outrageously errant, but there are similarities between the two downward spirals. Duval won 13 times from late 1997 to the summer of 2001, racking up 11 of those victories in an 18-month span that carried him to the top spot of the OWGR in 1999. Woods once confided to me that Duval was the player whom he feared most inside the ropes. Duval could do it all, and for the better part of four years, he did it all on a regular basis.

His final victory came at the ’01 British Open. Within a year of that lone major title, Duval was struggling mightily, largely because he couldn’t drive the ball accurately enough to take advantage of his other skills. He tumbled from 26th in fairways hit (1999) to 176th in 2002, then made just four cuts in 20 starts the following season. After a seven-month hiatus at the start of 2004, Duval returned to action at the U.S. Open. He shot 83-82."

It is all opinions...to me yes, he is anxious and frustrated on the course. Is that because he is more complacent in his preparation is the question to me. A lack of perpetration will lead to frustration.

After reviewing the definition of complacent ..... it appears I was thinking of complaisant. Meaning without care , or agreeable to whatever.

Complacent meaning , “ smug and or uncritical satisfaction for ones achievements” I don’t see how that fits. Anyone who sees that kid as smug , is really trying hard not to like him.

I agree with your assessment that caring TOO MUCH is part of the problem. But I don’t think either complacent or complaisant fits him. This guys opinion.

I'm not convinced that "anyone who has watched golf for a long time saw this coming" or "that it was a long time coming" is necessarily accurate and here's why I say that. After a pretty steady 5 years, it was more of an all of sudden thing that happened in 2019.

From 2014 to 2018, Jordan's driving accuracy was pretty steady averaging right around 60% and 106th on tour with 2017 and 2018 being the 2nd and 3rd best years for him in that 5 year span. There was no year that was an outlier for him in driving accuracy during that time either in percentage or where he ranked on tour. And it was pretty much the same story as far as greens in regulation for that same 5 year period. In fact, in 2017, Spieth ranked 4th on tour in GIR at 70.12% and in 2018 he ranked 12th at 70.47%.

It was in 2019 that his numbers absolutely tanked both in driving accuracy (53% ranked 181st) and greens in regulation (62.8% ranked 179th). And it's even worse so far in 2020.

Amen. And those of us watching noticed his posture change and immediate try to hit rope hooks with everything then. And then is when he started talking about being close to comfortable with some changes etc.

Jordan Spieth admits he spent months wrecking his swing

heres from his own mouth about a swing change. Says went the wrong direction for 2 months. Now backtracking.

Id have left Cameron over that. How do you go the wrong way for 2 months with constant supervision ?

JS was the best in the world at hitting the ball close to the hole. He was great through the bag from the wedges to the hybrids. His putting got a lot of credit, but when you had as many attempts at it as he did, and you are a great putter and a great chipper, you are going to make more than most.

His full swing with both the driver and the irons is suffering from a two-way miss. This has been going on for at least two years, in what I can only assume was a quest for more distance. He has to fix it or he will continue to slide.

I’d bet on McCormick going first. I truly think he’s smart enough to know that Michael has zero to do with this monkey shat fight at the zoo.

But on the other hand. I do not understand changing a winning formula. At no point in their youth or pro career had JT been better than Jordan. And one day he just decided to go postal with changes and now it’s no contest.

I have faith that it can be righted. But it’s going to take 1. A coming to Jesus moment between he and Cam. Or 2. Firing Cam. And finding someone to inject some simple common sense. Or possibly 3. Going it alone. But I don’t know if I see him taking Tigers route. I don’t know if he owns his own swing enough.

Exactly. Putter is not the issue. And putter would get even better if the pressure was off from the poor ballstriking.

NEOS18LCBUX6.pngEven though he has been EXTREMELY streaky with short putting (anyone who watches knows this). There isn't a heavily correlation between wins and and his 4 - 8 putting.

His ball striking has always been on the lunatic fringe.... Like I said before anyone who thought there was staying power with this Brad Faxon clone is delusional.

Jordan's biggest asset, (and I dont even have to look this up) has been his lag putting (and making) and his chipping around the greens. At times he has been brilliant.
