The SIM is very very good. I only have one very very small complaint about the driver. It is completely cosmetic.

I wish you would not have the paint role over the crown on to the face. I wish that TM would have the paint break somewhere off the face. Even if it was right at the corner. I dont hit many sky balls but having paint on the face that chips makes the club look aged quicker.

 

Just a thought. Again, a small complaint the driver bombs.

I have been under the impression the "+" just means that it is a CT tested head.. And same as "production" but just tested (verified legality and hotness) for tour use?@TaylorMade Golf

They did this to trick the eye when the club's at address, it doesn't look closed or anything because of the paint job. They also used clever paint tricks to make the twist face not look so open on the toe as well

I like the open look. I get that others may have a different opinion on cosmetic things. I just prefer on that one thing the looks of say the cobra speedzone. Where the paint is off the face a bit. Very small criticism, and does not effect the play of the club. Just a personal pref.. I love the way the head looks over all. the Grey and chalk and everything is great! I could see how moving the paint off the face could make the head look more "busy" and possible look even worse.

When you put the paint on the face it makes the face look smaller. I am sure TM with all there R&D took this into account and made the decision they thought was best. I will defer to them as I am not an engineer or anything.

They definitely do look more closed, because they are, but I think the point behind the paint was to just soften how much closed it looked. I don't play a closed driver and I like the open look myself, but just wanted to weigh in on why they put the paint where they did

I guess what I'm saying is the paint doesn't fool my eye.

Both the 2019 & 2020 retail release look closed, I have to set them to 1 click lower to look square to me.

My M5 9 is really a 10 head at neutral and it looks slammed shut unless it rolls over on that stupid flange when it lays down.

I think what they said to us when we were out there is they paint them in a way that makes it so you don't see the twist face when looking at it at address.

Agree 100% Quigley and I think the answer for why they did it is touched on in your comment. Not to be too much of a negative Nancy here, but with the drivers getting closer and closer to being Maxed out and most not needing a new driver if you've purchased one the last few years, TM might be driving sales by making the heads more prone to chipping, thus the need for replacing them more often.

ie, planned obsolescence.

Akin to Apple refusing to replace their very fragile iphone glass as it drove sales. Only when other manufacturers starting taking sales away by using Gorilla Glass, waterproofing (and other specs) did Apple give in and make their glass more resistant to breaking. The mighty dollar at work again. The businessman in me understands their approach, while the pragmatist is mad as hell.

I don't really think that is the case. I am skeptical that there was a conversation around "hey lets put paint of the face that will chip" TM is not the only company that does this. I think in many ways it makes the crown cleaner and less busy. That is probably the correct answer.

 

TM driver will sell regardless of ideas to slow sabotage the head.

Yeah, just because the advances in CT are nil doesn't mean improvements can't be made elsewhere (aerodynamics, weight distribution with lighter/different materials/etc.)

I’ve seen a few “tour issue” SIM heads listed on eBay, all have the + on the hosel.
