Recommend a good, cheap 7 wood

Lots of great 7W and Heavenwood options on Callaway Preowned right now at, imo, very reasonable prices. 2015 GBB, Epic, Rogue, etc.

Taylormade has or at least had in recent years a "5HL" at 21 degrees that qualifies more like a 7W loft in my book. That's all I recall in specs and I don't know which models.

Vsteel. Replace the original MAS shaft if installed and you have a great 7W.

Correction on the Taylormade thing, I should have said, "Nothing in recent years from Taylormade." Yes, the 5HL's are in that same loft range and they even had a few 7HL's that are 24*.

Ping Rapture v2. I have a 4 and 7 wood. Enough loft to not really worry about the deck, but tall faces for off the tee are a must. love them both

Some of them hit good with the stock MAS shaft and some do not ( I am talking all V-Steels not just the 7 wood) Back when I still could hit one hard I favored the old UST Pro Force 65 Gold in them. Now days I lean towards the Pro Launch Blue. And remember one thing when messing with V-Steels the shaft tip is .350

I have a epic Heavenwood that comes in and out of the bag... This thread just made me realize why I might only like it off the tee. I can't remember the last time I hit a green with it not from the tee box.

That would have been my recommendation! I changed the shaft in mine, and it's got a guaranteed spot in my bag now.

This one is coming with the original DG Lite steel shaft. My thought is to use it that way for a while to see how high I hit it. If I hit it high, I’ll look for an Aldila NV 75 to throw in it, if not I’m with Big Stu on the PL Blue.

And thanks for the heads up on the .350 hosel, I would have checked golfworks...eventually.

I was just looking at the Ping website and was blown away by how many tour pros are now bagging 7 woods. I knew there were several Titleist guys like Scott Stallings and Charles Howell III who play 7 woods, but there must be a dozen Ping pros who have them in the bag, especially if you add in the European Tour. And I didn't even look at LPGA.

I haven't tested the G410 7 wood, but they look very similar to the G400s so if you are looking for a cheap option, I'm sure you could find a bargain on a G400.

I usually bag two five-woods at once. The TaylorMade V-Steel is lofted at 18º and the Top Flite Intimidator 400 is lofted at 21º.

Although I rarely include them in my set, I also have the matching Top Flite 7-wood at 25º and 9-wood at 29º.

So I don't know how you look for a club by club number rather than loft.

Club numbers seem to mean next to nothing.

Yep you are correct on club numbers meaning nothing these days. And the interpretations mean nothing either. Like for example the fairway in my signature is 16* and some call it a 3 wood-- FTR I call it a 4 wood. Messing with some of the old stuff I acquire you see all kinds of lofts labeled different things

Alright, I can't wait to actually hit this thing...for you V-Steel guys, would you say they are naturally a high- or low-launching head? I'm having trouble choosing between the Aldila NV or NVS 75 or 85 shaft to put in my new 7 wood. Either way, I'm not a hard swinger, so it's going to be a regular flex.

I will agree with you on that one they are vastly under rated. Those driver heads are one hot mamma. A bud of mine that I just finished playing in a scramble with bought like a 4 wood and two hybrids dirt cheap and both hit good
