Moving to DFW Area

Ok guys, I’m getting out of the military and I’ll be moving to the DFW area in the fall. I’m looking for some course/location help.

Back Story- I’ll be working from home so can live generally anywhere in the DFW area my wife and I want. We have somewhat necked it down to the mid cities, Colleyville, grapevine, trophy club, Roanoke, flower mound areas. I grew up in Grapevine, but left when I was 18 n haven’t been back. Generally want no part of downtown Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Want- To continue to tighten the housing search I want to be within 10 minutes of what you could call my home course.

I would like the course to offer some type of practice/play membership or be private but reasonably priced(around 500 monthly dues+or-).

The courses I’m looking at

Texas Star- Euless- practice/play membership

Grapevine Muni- Grapevine

Trophy Club CC- Club Corp???, haven’t heard the best stuff

Lantana- Private, can’t find a lot of reviews about it????

Bridlewood- Flower Mound- some type of practice/play membership

Timarron CC- club Corp????

Am I missing any courses that generally meet the criteriaWhat of those courses do you recommend, which course has best practice areas, best kept, etcThanks for any in put in advanced

Thank You for your service and good luck on the move back home.

My numbers are from 2017 but if $500 is your budget then Trophy Club and Timarron will be outside of that figure. Trophy Club was $575 monthly + cart fee’s (though they allow walking) and Timarron was $650 + cart fee’s, walking also allowed.

I think Texas Star and Grapevine are good options for you, typically in very good condition, really different style course but for public golf they are solid choices. Bridlewood was hit or miss, sometimes the conditions were good to very good and others they were poor.

I like Lantana - good design and was always in nice shape when I played it - same owner as Bridlewood I believe (or at least used to be).

Welcome back and thank you for your service! I live in Grapevine, and think your choices are right on target. The Grapevine and Colleyville area is great, just watch where in Grapevine and Colleyville as I am sure you are aware. Southlake is Southlake... I am sure you understand.

For courses, Grapevine is always top in the metroplex for muni golf. They are also tearing down and rebuilding the clubhouse into a killer space. That should happen over the next two years, and the bond has already been approved so no worries about taxes going up to fund it. Timmaron will run you $850 plus cart fees per month. There is also an approximate $35k initiation fee there. Trophy Club schools aren't the best as they are attached to Lewisville ISD. I have a few Army buddies that live there and they don't think the education quality is equal to GCISD. Both of there courses are okay. Conditions are either killer or goat track bad. With dues around $600 plus cart fees and initiation around $5k I wouldn't take the plunge. Lantana has the not so strong schools issue as well, but the course is nice. The clubhouse and amenities are sub-par, but dues are reasonable around $450 per month plus cart fees. Initiation there always has specials and can be had for as low as $1k. Bridlewood is in great shape like grapevine and only getting better. The PLP membership there grants you reciprocity at Sky Creek Ranch in Keller and another course in McKinney, both nice courses. Just be weary of the after work rounds. It can get extremely busy and slow down. Lastly, I might be the only person in DFW to say Texas Star isn't a good track. I mean its not terrible, but its certainly not on the level everyone says it's on. There are many other tracks that absolutely trump it.

Thanks for the info, it’s really hard to find out about trophy club cc n timmaron without giving them your info. Those are out of the price range for now.

Im intrigued by Lantana, I’m not really an amenities guy, just need a good course to practice and play. Living around there would be close to Bridlewood and kinda close to Grapevine Muni as well.

The search might be narrowing, Thanks guys
