Golf club hire in Ireland

Trying to organize a 3 week journey to IR, September 2020. The first week will be mostly golf from Galway north to Westport and Sligo, then back to Galway to drop the rented car. At Galway i may hire a full set of clubs to use the entire week, at about US$80.

Could play max 5 days, as all must be walking, it may be raining, must also find 'cheap' lodging, etc. Can't carry my own clubs.

Any experience or advice on club hire, car hire, best courses in that part of the world? Cannot pay US$250 for round of golf, half that would absolute tops. I'm a fair player, but getting on in years with crumbly knees and aching hip points. Otherwise, all good, and i will be solo all the way (unless i meet a lass/lady in a pub). Fortunately, i can speak the language, if the locals speak slowly!

An alternative would be to hire clubs at each course with cost unknown at this time.

It seems that although it is technically part of Europe, all questions on this forum about golf in Ireland go through the UK thread. So I suggest you repost over there.

Nevertheless, I will answer as best I can as I too am aging (just a bit) and did a golf trip to that part of Ireland a year or two ago. Walking.

Heading NW from Galway. Some good Bed and Breakfasts in the area. We stayed at Buttermilk Lodge in Clifden where there are a lot of music pubs. Connemara is your best golf course near there and it costs about 80 euro, from memory. Westport is a nice town with a good inexpensive golf course but its more parkland. Carne at Belmullet is about an hour NW and a top golf course. We played at Enniscrone for 100 euro (might need a cart there) and stayed in the town at an inexpensive place, probably around 60 euro. I hear Strandhll is good but we didnt play it. Rosses Point at Sligo is brilliant but costs 150 euro. Plenty of good B&Bs but you have to search online. Donegal is excellent and worth the trip. Cost 60 euro.
