Mavrik SZ Vs. Epic Flash SZ

I didn't want to pay latest/greatest price, so bought EF SZ on CPO "like new" last week. First time out, and weather wouldn't let us play last few weeks, I have to say it's silly forgiving for what it is. When hit in middle, silly long, a keeper for sure. GBB Epic donated to my son.

"I had a chance to hit the Mavrik line of irons with the flash face and I am still trying to make sense of the numbers. The consistency seemed unreal on distances. My front to make dispersion on 15 shots with the Mavrik Pro 7 iron was 5 yards. I want to go hit them again to see if that was just a one off, or if that is the norm of flash face irons."

"Sense of the numbers" ?

Wondered that myself when I gained almost a full club with the regular Mavrik 7 iron. Then I found the difference. "Regular" Mavrik 7 iron = 27*, MAX Mavrik 7 iron = 30* (Huh ?), Pro Mavrik 7 iron = 30.5*

Didn't give the driver a full out test but I did hit it a little bit. Feels much like the Epic Flash SZ but the sound is definitely more muted.

I was previous fit for the Standard Mavrik 9* set to 8* with a Evenflow Black 75 6.5 shaft playing at 44.75". With this combo I was averaging about 280 yards carry and 2200 rpms of spin. I did not pay any attention to the ball speed or launch being indoors only what ball path shown on the monitor.

I hit my 44.75" Rogue SZ 9* set to 8* heavy weigh back an average of 278 yards carry with my Diamana D+ 70x. Then I tried the Evenflow Black in my Rogue SZ and averaged 282 yards carry and around 2100rpms

I could not hit the Mavrik SZ 9* to save my life. I was hitting low spin drives that carried about 260 yards on average with 1100rpms of spin. When I did hit a good shot with it my carry was about 285 with the Evenflow and 282 with my Diamana. There was a total of 3 good drives with the Mavrik SZ in every setting. I wanted to try the 10.5* head, but someone was using it while I was there. I may go back and test it as I loved the shape of it.

I then switch back to my fit Standard Mavrik with Evenflow Black and I was crushing it. I averaged about 287 carry with that combo. I need to hit this out doors to see if what I saw is true, but I was impressed with the Mavrik standard.

I have hit everything out there. They are all good. To me the Mav is just too muted and lacks feel. It produces good numbers no problem there. I just do not like how lacking in feel it is.

The SZ does look better than the standard, but I cannot hit it consistently right now. I went back yesterday and tried again, because I really want the SZ, and it was better than the first time, but I still got some low spin shots that I thought I hit well. I need to hit it outside.

I had only played twice since October the first time I hit the Mavrik and I chalk up the difference in distance to having been to the range and played a couple more times the second time I hit them. I will say the Rogue SZ is keeping up with the Mavrik. It was only about 2 to 3 yards longer than the Rogue SZ yesterday and I am thinking about canceling my Mavrik order now since it still hasn't shipped. Is 2 to 3 yards more carry worth it?

The Rogue SZ with the Evenflow Black feels good!!!!

My mavrik sz 10.5 showed up yesterday. with rogue 130 60x. Will have to go to the range tomorrow to try it out.

It looks so much better at address than my 410+ I almost can’t believe i was ever able to stomach the turbulators....it’s as good as a driver has looked to me in a long time.

i even turned the mavrik up 1* to see what it did to the face angle and it still sits a touch open to me.

Because "subzero" is a modification to an existing line, not a line all by itself. The Epic spun more than the Epic Subzero, and the Rogue spun more than the Rogue Subzero, but it doesn't mean the Rogue Subzero spins less than the Epic.

It's just what Callaway calls their low spin head equivalent to a Ping G410 vs Ping G10 LST

I'm a BIG fan of the EFSZ but I've found that certain combinations of heads and shafts just work better than others.

Here's a short post of mine about it ---> https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/comment/19296255#Comment_19296255

The Mavrik replaced the Rogue. Callaway has 2 lines of clubs, each on a 2 year plan. The Epic Flash is still listed as a new club and is still available on the Callaway wholesale site. The Epic Flash is still more expensive on the website than the Mavrik as well so I would say its not a replacement, otherwise the newer one would be more expensive.

That being said, I find no difference in distance between the 2, but the mavrik has seemed to be a little easier to hit for me(i have the SZ of both and the Rogue as well, all 9*). Mavrik feels better on slight mishits and goes straighter overall, but Ive always struggled with driver. I can see how there would be varying results. I found the Mavrik SZ to feel lighter than the Epic Flash SZ. Maybe its the lack of slider weight?

Either way they are both great sticks. If you have the Epic Flash already, theres probably no need to switch.

I have both and others may have differing opinions but i never hit the Rogue SZ well. I dont even need to do a side by side because you wont gain any knowledge from it. I hit the Epic Flash SZ and Mavrik SZ significantly better than the Rogue. I use the same shaft every year as well. Diamana Blue 60S.

I got to hit my 10.5 mavrik sz yesterday. I put my phenom in it for no real reason. It felt more solid than my 410+, and it may be the sound, that muffled thwack is nice. The clubhead felt light to me, i ordered a scale on Amazon last night so I’ll check in a couple of days.

Looks are insane, somebody said cannonball on a stick & that fits in a good way. I love the way it sits behind the ball at N-S, as open as my ping was. There was a measurable difference distance wise between the 2 because the ping flew a lot higher and plopped into the fairway and the mavrik lands shallower. I carried the cally a little farther but not much.

the big difference to me, between the mavrik and the epic flash that i bagged for a hot minute was forgiveness. I drove the ball really well yesterday but on 17, i hit the nasty high toe shot. My 410 & the ef would have ended up near the left trees, i know because this hole is in my head and i hit the same shot last week. Yesterday it went straight. It didn’t have any spin on it but it split the fairway and ran a mile.

As my luck would have it, i found out that my course is having a Callaway demo day this coming Friday, a week after I bought the driver....... I’m going to call and see if they’ll “fit” me at the end and let me hit the rogue white, phenom, my Veylix and ventus to see some numbers.

Thought I'd chime in since I work in manufacturing/marketing (non-golf). In product lines, you develop products for your customers needs. Customers may well have SIMILAR needs, but not the EXACT SAME needs. One product very well may work better for an individual than another product. Thus, you have one line for one set of customers and another line for the other set of customers. Pricing could very easily be similar also. In my industry, price is based on cost of production and the typical price of similar products for that industry. IMHO, the Mavrick line suits some players better and the EF line suits other players better. And, of course, there are some players who will have similar results with both.
