LOL I believe Ping always had those crazy numbered lie angles to be a$$es. BTW 60* is my standard lie angle for a 5 iron in all my blade Macs. Now that set of Eye2s I found on the pile a while back were red dot. I set them to my lie specs of my blade Macs and I hit them ok they just don't transfer any feel for me. I remember I think Charley Penna said there were no standard published specs for Macs back in the day. My Old Man was never into the mechanical aspect of things and he always said never screw with a set of Macs to learn to hit them like they were. He probably rolled in his grave 3 times when I built the MacHogans and yes I have lead tape on all of them. I can remember back in the day he had no use for Ben Hogan ( never said why he was like that) and when the Hoganized Macs became sorta popular around our area and the Triad area of NC he stated " Why in the hell would anyone want to mess up a perfectly good set of Macgregors by putting a inferior shaft in them?" I can remember the last round I played with him I was playing my 80 VIPs ( my original set) and had the Brunswick shafts in them and lead tape. He asked what kind of irons were those I told him. He replied well you would never know by all that junky lead tape. He also added I thought I taught you better than that. Like I said he was never about the mechanical aspects of tuning clubs. He was into a proper swing by the book game and greens and fairways

LOL good one Arch----- Yep more than likely--- Yeah the guys on this end of the beach don't call me Dr Lead Tape for nothing--- I will tell you how that one got started--- My bud the Miura dealer hates the stuff and his trade name was Dr Golf before he retired---- Some one introduced us one day to a fellow and the guy said "so you are Dr Golf" he said "yep and here is my associate Dr Lead Tape" The guy was looking at one of my sets of Macs and replied " I see so"----- I have not ever lived that one down ( proudly so) ---- The Miura guy is quick on his wit and he is the one who coined my shop " Stu's Little House of Horrors" or Stu's Butcher Shop-----

ROTFLMFAO!!! Well I can go with the heavy part not as heavy as yours. The stiff part no more I gotta have a little kick on the tip end now days--- Had a lady at a local barber shop cut my hair this afternoon. She had never cut my hair before but the owner has. She remarked it was amazing at my age the thickness and lack of gray. I told her I did not need any Viagra either just ask my wife!!! The lady was shocked and the owner cracked up but she knows us because she lives in the park around the corner from us

As my 77 year-old dad told me in a duck blind over this past Christmas holiday , "do your best to leave with their jaw dropped son, because nobody remembers the guy who didn't."

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I'm really not sure how much I buy into that. I have played with clubs from the 80's and earlier and have clubs now that are totally modern. Nothing has really changed for me. My swing is the same as it has been for thirty years. Ball flight is not much different.

I will admit though that I never used a persimmon wood. When I started metal was just coming into use. That is what I learned on. The only thing that has had a effect on my swing is the shaft length. All my clubs are shaft lengths from the 80's. standards.

I have never been fitted for any club. I had Mizuno MP 14 for a very long time and I just replaced them this past year. Even went with graphite shafted irons. Nothing has changed, except they are lighter. I replaced my 3 and 4 irons many years back with Hybreds. They are just easier to hit. Why not take advantage of that?

So maybe Bradley Hughes has a good point on some things. Maybe the modern equipment does not fit with what he teaches. I have just never seen it in my own game.
