Dynamic Gold X100 TI or Project X 6.5

I currently play TT DG X100 TI's but I have PX 6.0 in my 52, 56 and 60.

 

They're about the same, DG's have a little more feel the PX but I find myself having more confidence in the PX's.

 

I've been toying with the idea of getting the PX 6.5's in my irons.

Very aggressive transition. SS is 117-120 with the driver.

 

So should I switch to the 6.5's or just put s400's in my wedges?

Or say screw it all and go to Nippon Pro Modus 130's?

Throw in the 6.5s They are money if you like the px feel.

Way different feel. I'm closer to 110 on SS (just under right now due to some nagging injuries) and have hit both a good amount. The X100 is much easier to load and is easier to work the ball with but that means it's a bit less straight and can balloon if you're off. If you've never tried them, give the C Taper a spin. Such a nice shaft. You can't go wrong. Get into a sim and see how your numbers come out if you can.

PX are great for control, if that's what you want. If you want feel over control for some reason X100 are your ticket. YMMV

I got a buddy who has the 6.0's and he loves them. I guess my only issue would be the weight, x100's are 130 and the PX a little lighter at 125. I'm a high spin player I have noticed I can flight the ball better with the 6.0 in my 52

I actually scheduled a fitting, not to buy just kind of to see what the fitter says. It's at CoolClubs so I'm hoping for a unbiased fitting

Have 6.5s in my irons and just got fit into 6.5s in my wedges. Feels fine for me and I love the consistency between my irons and wedges. Poster above said go C taper which I agree with. Except the PC are no up charge in vokeys so keep that in mind.

PX 6.5 is going to be much firmer and crisper feeling, mishits will not be hidden. If that is the type of feel that works for you then by all means, but if you aren't sure then grab a single shaft and throw it in your 6-iron to be sure.

I can always go to a club fitter and get new shafts and have them thrown in, which is what I'll do when I get new shafts BUT I was looking on eBay and had a helluva time finding just OG Project X 6.5's all I'm seeing is flighted which I don't want, I have no issue getting my long irons in the air.

I’ve found project x has a stiffer tip than x100 and helps me reduce spin which helps me keep ball flight down.

Which is what I've noticed with my 6.0. I'm almost wondering if I should just skip the 6.5 and go to the 7.0 for the weight difference. Because the X100's ar 130g and I feel like I need that heavier shaft

if you are playing PX in your wedges, then I would for sure suggest going PX 6.5’s in irons. Ultimately it is only 5 grams difference between the 2, i am very sensitive to small weight changes myself. As another poster mentioned, KBS C Taper was right on par with PX for me when i was testing iron shafts a few years ago. The only reason i went PX was due to all the stories I’ve heard of KBS and bent iron shaft tips. Now maybe they have since corrected this problem (although i think the kbs shafts were designed that way and can’t fix problem), but both options are great for lowering spin and trajectory. Just an fyi C Taper is slightly counterbalanced.

I have a ctaper 130x in my 3 iron. I may be nitpicking here but I just don't like the raw steel look of the KBS Shafts. The PX just feels more stout and I can't overpower the shaft. Someone suggested the LZ but that's like the AMT line from true temper if I'm not mistaken which is something I definitely don't need... except the AMT's go down in weight in the long irons and the LZ's weight stays consistent throughout the set.

 

What's your ball flight like with the 6.5's. I already hit it high so I'm trying to flatten that out.

LZ is way different that regular project X, i tried them and wasn’t a fan. LZ is stiffer in butt section and much weaker in mid section (ie: loading zone) , and stiff tip. I have recently switched to px 6.0, had 6.5’s in old irons but had a back injury 2 years ago that made me dial my time in the gym way back. Due to that I’ve lost some muscle, and made the switch to 6.0’s. The weight adjustment wasn’t that rough of a transition, due to me not needing the extra weight and stiffness. I have a late release of the club, where i used to use a ton of right arm release (which was what put me in the px shaft), I’ve had to change swing up a bit due to the injury. Realize now that i was a bit to handsy with my swing in the past, which would cause hooks and other problems, so now i am much more connected and even. Learning to use more lower body for power instead of upper body. Ball fight is definitely higher with the 6.0 vs 6.5’s but not by a ton. Px iron shaft fits more of the “hitter” and not the “swinger” of the club. Keeps spin down too which i need.

Do you feel there is a big difference in flex between PX 6.0 and 6.5? Been debating the two myself.

There is a slight difference I noticed. After i lost some of my muscle i guess i would fit in between them now, so swings where i am hitting a full iron it would load fine, but if i wanted to take a fraction off a shot to hit a 3/4 iron, that was the difference for me. Shaft wouldn’t load enough and would be short of my number. I already had 6.0’s in my wedges so knew the feel, but i did a test 7 iron and could hit all the shots again. If it’s a weight thing, the c taper in stiff + is 125 grams and not as stiff as 6.5 px.
