Last-Minute Golf Trip - Phoenix or Vegas?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning a last-minute golf trip. I'm sick of winter and need a little break with some warmer weather and golf so we're planning a trip for the end of February or early March. Right now we're considering Phoenix and Vegas. Which one would you guys go with and why? I haven't golfed in either place. We'd obviously need to be able to find good public courses to get into on fairly short notice. Any recommendations you all can give are appreciated.

Played a couple of courses in Vegas which were fine enough but if you can manage it would suggest flying to Vegas and driving 40 minutes east to Mesquite and you can line up rounds at 3-4 really good tracks - Wolf Creek, Oasis, Conestoga, Falcon Ridge all great - even the Palms and Casablanca are decent warm up courses - scenic and much better bang for your buck over Phoenix and in Vegas.https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attractions-g45973-Activities-c61-t60-Mesquite_Nevada.html

PS I believe we stayed at the Casablanca Hotel Resort which gets you a discount for golf at their course

Weather in Phoenix will be ideal. Vegas could still be cold in the mornings, i.e. low 40's.

Phoenix has more accessible golf, IMO. Vegas is so expensive, unnecessarily...

Stone Creek, The 500 Club, Coyote Lakes, Legend at Arrowhead - all good tracks in the valley for a fair price.

I would vote Phoenix all day.

I think there is little to no value in Vegas golf. Phoenix can be expensive, but there are also some decent options that don't break the bank (Talking Stick North, Papago, Southern Dunes, Verrado among them).

Thanks everyone. I initially wanted Phoenix but the guys I'm going with were pushing for Vegas. VallyGolf mentioned spring training and I'd love to line the trip up with seeing the Brewers. I'll see if I can convince the guys I'm going with to do Phoenix. It sounds like there are some good options in Vegas and Mesquite but overall I think Phoenix/Scottsdale sounds like the route to go.

Strongly agree that Phoenix is better for golf. You won’t be bored with the nightlife in Phoenix/Scottsdale, either. You can go to Talking Stick for some Vegas style gambling if needed. It’s not too shabby (and the course is great). The golf here (AZ) wins hands down. I’m heading to Vegas in a few weeks and have decided not to bring my clubs because it just doesn’t make sense to golf there with all the cheap(er) golf at home.

Interesting! I (subconsciously) put these in order of my preference for "affordable decent tracks." I played well at Stone Creek, so there might be a bias there. What would your top 3 or 4 affordable tracks in the Valley? I visit the Valley only every 18 months or so, so you likely have a lot more insight into which course are worth it.

I'm a big fan of Boulders, TPC (obviously), We Ko Pa, among others. But these wouldn't make the "affordable list" IMO.
