Just my own choices, but going forward I will:

Try to avoid commenting on the divot matter, that has been beaten to deathAvoid commenting on changes to anything other than the current Rules of Golf. If someone can't at least reference the current rules, he doesn't deserve my time.

It’s okay. You’re not the only one, but there is no need to continue on with it. Read through the thread (if you dare) you’ll see that the horse has been beat up pretty good already.

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

Okay, you guys did better than I thought you would in catching the rule 13 - 4 mistake. As far as not wanting to comment on topics that have been discussed before it's probably because you don't have any substantial positive comments to contribute to a needed discussion. I say needed because an unrepaired divot in the fairway is not a natural part of the course. It's almost as if someone took a shovel in the middle of the night and went out and gouged the fairway, and golfers thinking you are obligated to play out of it. I remember last year landing in a divot that looked like a golfer made when he chunked his shot into the green. Then, because he was so angry and frustrated, said ''screw it I'm not going to fill it in and repair it, let somebody else do it' '. Golf has always been a game of etiquette, gentleman-ness, and truthfulness, but an unrepaired divot in the Fairway doesn't meet any of that criteria. That's okay, if you don't feel the need or desire to respond, no problem!

A friend of mine was playing a round and asked one fellow to replace his divots. That fellow responded, "Why? That is what the hired help is for." I walked the course the other day and found two side by side that looked like someone took a small shovel to the fairway. 10 feet in front of me were too massive pieces of turf...more like beaver pelts. I replaced them of course, but it's like you are fighting a losing battle.

So, Mikey-almost-6-eagles wants a free relief from a divot hole. Why? Because it is more difficult to make a decent shot from a divot hole than from a perfectly smooth fairway. Fair enough, but...

Mikey, this will come to you as a surprise but sometimes the lie on the fairway is not what you see on tv watching top pros playing Augusta. Sometimes that grass has just not grown/mowed to perfection and you still have to make a stroke at that f*****ing ball.

Learn to play, Mikey, and stop whining. Contact the local pro and s/he will tell you how to make a decent contact with a ball in a divot hole. Yes, it is called 'divot hole' instead of mere 'divot'. Divot is the piece of turf, divot hole is the hole a divot has been hacked away from. Got it?

Oh, and stop whining about divot holes, you make a 1000+ bad shots a season without a divot hole. Think about that.

Lol. Hello. And welcome.

What you’ve stepped into is the rules club. A place where they are correct and you are wrong.

Ironically , they seem to follow the forum rules less and less. Take the political post above , that should be flagged. Or the foul mouthed personal insult laden post , that should be flagged. Same poster. Recently they did the same to another in this thread and he’s been banned or suspended, no notification as to which yet. (I’ve asked). For those offended by “they” . If you condone it with silence , youre part of the they .

So be careful taking the bait. They don’t like this thread in particular , and have attacked anyone who’s posted In it.

Some may ask ask why I didn’t flag him. Or why this isn’t a pm. answer is i rather detest the flag option , id rather just call it what it is publicly.

What you’ve stepped into is the rules club. A place where they are correct and you are wrong.

I daresay that if we were on an automobile discussion site YOU would usually be correct and they would usually be wrong.

You're in a forum with Rules EXPERTS. You should EXPECT they will be right and you will be wrong MOST of the time. If you were on an astrophysics website would you argue with an astrophysicist ?

OK, so this place is slightly different. You are an expert in PLAYING the game. They are experts on the RULES. Just because you can play doesn't mean you know the rules. I sure don't.

As for divots (and such), "they", this time meaning the guys who have the temerity to suggest a rules change, never seem to be able to support their argument against the rule they don't like, at least not all the way to the end. And they who KNOW why these rules are as they are try to explain it many times and the person who wants the rule change usually ends us saying "Well, it ain't fair". Oh well.

Take divots. Argued many times and so far NOBODY has successfully come up with the definition of a divot and when an old divot is no longer a divot and the ONLY potential consistent relief from divots is to make a rule allowing the player to move the ball 6 inches anywhere in the fairway. Would you like to see that rule ? Neither would I.

And now that things have kinda sorta calmed down a bit up jumps one two of the same old, same old guys talking about divots again. Trying to stir the pot again. But that doesn't bother you ? Both of whom have been over and over and over again with the subject. AND one of them seizes his chance to come up with "cart paths". AGAIN. "Play it as it lies", as an argument against the rule that says no relief from divots. And this no matter how many times it's been explained that a cart path is not a natural part of the course.

Does that matter to him ? Nope. Just another chance to stir the pot.

"Political post" Please blade, stop. And "foul mouthed insult laden post" ? Exaggerate much ? Because the guy used ONE "expletive" to an obvious troll ? My goodness. Most of the rules around here that I've seen are broken all the time. So a guy who "breaks" one of them, NOW that's a problem ? LOL

And let's not compare that with the poster whose name shall not be mentioned. That guy was trolling (this thread especially) over and over and over again, especially about OB being a double penalty and about the unplayable lie and the STRICT definition of "unplayable", just running the same circular arguments. And when "caught" on something, just went on to something else.

That's HARDLY the case here.

So be careful taking the bait. They don’t like this thread in particular , and have attacked anyone who’s posted In it."

Aren't YOU trying to "bait" one or more posters now ? LOL
