Considering a move to Pinehurst

We took a day trip from Winston-Salem to Pinehurst yesterday, and really had a great time. We enjoyed our lunch at the Deuce, and the atmosphere around the clubhouse. The Village is beautiful. We checked out the housing market, and it seemed reasonable. I am an avid golfer, but my wife does not play. She enjoys the symphony, and the arts. What is there for non golfers to do in the Pinehurst area. We really like living in WS, so it would take more than just golf to get us to move.

Pinehurst is all golf. There is a Yoga studio in the Village, but Pinehurst itself is kind of sleepy. Southern Pines is another area to hang out in, and has a little more going on, but nothing like going from Pinehurst to NYC....

she'd have to travel to fayetteville for "cultural" stuff, i guess ... college town, so i'm sure it has a fair share of that stuff, which is important ...

but those golf courses!

There's lawn bowling...??? Same as previous posters, not much to do in Pinehurst/Southern Pines area. My lady and I did enjoy the monthly old movie showing at the theater in Southern Pines. Watched Rebel Without a Cause and were the youngest in the theater by about 30 years.

I commute most weeks from Pinehurst / Southern Pines to Boston.

Things to do:

Golf

Huge Equestrian farms/population in the area (all the people with real money are horse folks)

Tennis (Very organized local communities - Lawn&Tennis, CCNC, Pinehurst, Legacy, USTA Teams)

Minor activities - Lawn Bowling, PickleBall, Adult Rec sports (Soccer, Rugby)

Arts (Not much, Movie Theater is much improved, 1st Fridays in Southern Pines are fun, Some shows at Fair Barn and Roosters Wife, Sandhills CC and Local High School Plays and Orchestra)

We have friends thru Golf/Country Club/Tennis/Kids and spend most weekends at somebodies house - Darts/Pong/Music/Drinks....

It's grown some and not as sleepy as it was, but most nights you can roll into any restaurant without reservation, food is OK most places...not great...

Not sure there is enough to do there for full-time living. Obviously the golf is off the charts, but I wonder what it is like in the busy season there if you were a resident.

Where do you play in Winston-Salem? Maybe its time to join Old Town Club

Always enjoyed Reynolds Park, decent muni. Tanglewood was recently redone, no? Major championship site!
