Did I make a mistake? Picked up a set of p770’s

Just wondering if I’m nuts I just picked a set of p770 irons in great condition for a helluva price! The dilemma is I’m not that damn good! Shoot on average around 84 most days been playing Wilson d100’s for last few years! That being said my irons are best part of my game with driver being the worst! Just wonder if I got more iron than I should have any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

770s are pretty forgiving, I don’t think you’ll have an issue!

I heard the same, 790 and 770 are nearly the same. So, guessing you’d be fine.

In my opinion give them a shot and see how they work for you. For the past 2 years I have been playing a combo set of p770 p790 clubs. The 770's defiantly feel way better but i noticed that when i didn't have a chance to groove the swing as much I still hit the 790's well and at the same time missed greens with the 770's. During a recent fitting at club champion we confirmed that my dispersion is better with the 790 then 770 . I am now switching to 790's throughout the bag but plan on playing the 770's from time to time as they are awesome heads.

The 770s are a forgiving players CB. They are a great value given the popularity of the 790.

 

if you find the long Irons a smidge less forgiving blend some 790s in but bend lofts appropriately.

 

i personally prefer the softer feel of the 770 in the scoring irons over the 790.

Keep us posted. The 770 is my favorite of the p700 lineup. Perfect size to me and they deliver strong flight with excellent feel at impact.

P770 are excellent and pretty easy to play. I found that they don’t offer much distance help but provide tight dispersion and workability. Excellent feel too. As long as you got the right shaft and specs you’ll love them.

I don't believe average score should relate much to what irons you play with. My handicap is about 12 and I lose most of my strokes with driver. I have another buddy who doesn't have a handicap but shoots high 80's/low 90's, hits a ton of fairways and is a good iron player but has an atrocious short game and isn't good at putting.

I think you will be fine. My son started playing them as an 8 yr old and loved them. He just moved over to the P760's, which appear to be much more compact from heel to toe.

The P770 is IMO an under rated club! I can't find a ton of people who agree, but when you hit the middle I think they are as buttery as anything(including the best from Mizuno and Srixon). I still have a set and the only reason they are not in the bag right now is I am playing with the Recoil 110 and the TM P770's have the Recoil 95's. The P770 are not horribly forgiving but very playable IMO. I love them and think you will too.

You'll be fine. I went from SGIs to MP-57s after only playing for 2 or 3 years and my scores didn't change. The only thing that changed was that I liked the look of the irons in my bag and I enjoyed hitting them more.

If you had gotten the 750s you may have some struggles. But 770s are pretty playable.

Update!!! Finally got mine in the mail and took them to my courses indoor simulator! I freaking love these irons so far! I know I need to take them on the course but on the simulator iron vs iron I may have lost 5 yards of distance but the dispersion was so much better it was obscene. One of the guys in the other simulator stopped to watch me hitting and just kept talking about ball flight and how good they sounded! Can’t wait till weather gets good here in Indiana

I think forgiveness can be a bit overrated. And, since you got such a great deal spend sometime with them. Regardless of what kind of club you play, you still have to put a good swing on it to get decent results.
