TP South Memorial weekend or Maderas

Hey everyone,

Though I live in AZ I never get out to San Diego. I have time for 1 round on the Friday before Memorial Day. I was debating booking a round at Maderas and waiting for the 3 day window to see if I can get on TP South and if not just play Maderas as I have heard great things about it. I know TP is love/hate with a lot of people but I've been wanting to play it for a while. I have 2 quick questions:

Is TP South typically in good shape that time of year? How likely would it be that I could get out early am in the 3 day window? Or should I just book 90 days out?Thanks!

Yes.If it's you, then it's highly likely you can get out early and throw your bag in line. Or just join the wait list if you aren't in a hurry to get out first thing. As a non-local, I don't know that I could in good conscience recommend playing Torrey for that price.......

$252 green fee plus $45 cart if you want to add one. It's easily walkable. Conditions are fantastic right now since the Farmers and I now they'll aerate in the next few months. That'd be the only thing to watch out for as you get closer. Same with Maderas. If this is your only chance of playing Torrey then I'd say go for it but if you wanted to play cheaper then wait for an opportunity when you have a weekday (Mon-Thur) twilight rate to take advantage of in the summer months. Like in July/August you could pay $122 for a 3pm time and still finish.

You'll be fully satisfied with a guaranteed tee time at Maderas though. Check Golfnow and TeeOff.com for cheap times although Memorial Day holiday rates may apply.

There are lots of other options too just depends what you're looking for and how much you wanna spend and how much driving you're willing to do.

Do you know when they aerate Torrey South and North? Planning on a trip first weekend of April

I'm not sure but I can't imagine them aerating during March Madness and The Masters so you should be fine but check their calendar on the website. They only show the current month though. https://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/golf/torreypines/calendar?date=2020-02
