Hybrid Loft Gaps

I currently play a 17* hybrid set to 16.25*, which is essentially my 3 wood. I’m trying to fill a gap between my hybrid and 4 iron (21*) and am considering moving the hybrid up to 18.5* and getting another hybrid and setting it at 15.5* to fill my 3 wood role. Would the difference in distance between the 2 hybrids (both 17* before adjustments) be noticeable enough for this setup to make sense?

Like you I don't carry a 3w. I played a 17* and 19* last summer and was unhappy with how close they were distance-wise. This year I'm going to 17 and 21.

For me, 17 and 19 were both off-the-tee distance clubs...towards the end of the season I really wasn't sure why I had both. Whereas I'm hoping the 21 will play more like an iron.

Are you thinking of getting another of the exact same club and lofting one all the way down and one all the way up? Couple issues I see with that plan are that if the shafts are the same length, you might not see enough of a difference in distance, and the face angles would be very different (the lower lofted one being very open and the higher lofted one being very closed), which would mean some adjusting your swing/set-up between the two clubs. If you lengthen or shorten one of the shafts and can adjust to the very different face angles, you might be able to make it work, but I would think it would be easier to tweak your current hybrid however works best for you and find another club (even the same club, different loft) to fit into the gap better.

It would be a different brand/model, just the same loft, but I definitely see your point. I really like my current hybrid, but if I loft it up to close the gap, then I would need a 3 wood equivalent. I’ve always preferred the hybrid shape to the 3 wood shape. My other option would be to keep the hybrid as is and pick up a 3iron/driving iron.

I think you could get a adjustable 19* and set it at 20* or so. With the longer shaft length and higher ball speed and launch you should get at least 15-20 yards more than your 21* 4 iron.

I currently have a SLDR 19* set to the highest setting at roughly 20.5 and hit it 20 yards further than my 22* 4 iron. Best of luck.

I have seen players who carry a 3W, 2H and 4H. The 2H and 4H have separation from each other, and the 4H with its longer shaft gets separation from the 5i. Then, they get tighter yardage gaps as they go into their scoring irons.
