i assume you're looking at public only? having said that, there's a website out there called greenskeeper.org that's got a deal right now where you can get on the saticoy club (sweet private track in ventura county) for $100, but restricted to play tue/wed/thurs.

that track for $100 is exponentially better than OVI or sandpiper.

soule park is worth playing for sure. simi hills is a great bargain. sand canyon cc (fka robinson ranch) is a good target desert golf course.

I just got to play up there for the first time a few weeks ago. Played Saticoy Club and Sandpiper. Two really different courses, loved them both.

GolfMoose.com has been running a great deal for Sandpiper ($129 with free replay), although I don't see that deal today. I'd keep checking there to see if they bring it back.

If you can get on Saticoy do it. That course would eat tour pros lunches if the greens are fast and rough grown out a bit. If you hit it past the pin on a few holes there’s no stopping it from rolling 10-15 feet past if you miss your putt. They used to have US Open qualifiers there and Pepperdine used to practice there back when Jason Gore was in College and they won the NCAA. Rustic is well known by now. Ojai Valley Inn usually has a half off Groupon. Olivas is a nice track. I like Victoria Lakes at River Ridge. Moorpark CC is over priced but a nice course. That’s about all I can recommend in VC.

Up near Santa Barbara, Rancho San Marcos is pretty nice (or at least it was when I played it several years ago). It's a fun layout in a beautiful valley in the mountains a little north of the city.

Going to be in So. Cal/Ventura for business in a few weeks and have a full day to play so looking  to do 36 holes.  Definitely want to play Rustic Canyon.  I see 2 other courses in Moorpark- Moorpark Country Club and Tierra Rejada.  Both look nice.  Are they about equal?   Also see Olivas Links looks nice and is about 35-40 from Rustic.  Would it be worth the extra hour ride round trip to go to Olivas and then to Rustic or would I be better off being closer and playing Moorpak or Tierra and then Rustic Canyon.   Thanks, Jeff

Like you said play Rustic for sure. Tierra has more heroic shots with elevation changes. If you like that type of golf it will be fun. Olivas is a good track that's fairly open and in front of you. I prefer it to Tierra but not to Rustic. It goes: Rustic, big drop off then Olivas, Tierra-Moorpark CC. You may want to play Rustic twice but keep in mind it's busy and slow.

Thx for info.  I will also check golf now and tee off to see what deals I can get for Olivas or Tierra.

Tierra is fun, and at good prices. lots of elevation changes on the front 9, and you are playing over canyons a lot on the front 9.

back 9 is a mix. I cant wait to play again soon. One of my favorites i have played.
