1 year since Johnny Miller retired

Today is the one year anniversary of Johnny Miller’s last telecast for NBC. Say what you want about him but who wouldn’t trade Paul Azinger for him right now?

I have always liked Miller and his commentary. Sure he may brag on himself from time to time but he's been there and done that, and did it rather well for a while. Loved his honesty and he sure didn't make excuses for the pro's when they were playing bad.

At least Johnny wasn't boring.....Now you get Zinger and on CBS it's DL 3 - these are the commentators who won't help keep the casual interested golf viewers around.

Here on WRX, we're more in tuned to those guys - or Not....!

I still wish they could double up Tony Romo with Nantz on CBS as in football. We all know Tony is a baller in golf, too - he would keep it lively but still no too gimmicky with his knowledge as a decent player.

Jonny did a great job in a tough position and knew how to fill air time with interesting commentary. DL3 will hopefully get better with time. Zinger...meh

Johnny, at least he was worth listening to. He said something and you took it seriously. The guys now are like background noise or just annoying.

Johnny kept that crew on point. Rog and Gary, they were like his minions. Now, is just like listening to the random babbling like some tour bus guides.

There are enough commentators, interviewers etc sucking up to the players, too close to them is as much a curse as an advantage. You pretty much knew where Johnny stood on an issue, our man Ian Baker-Finch gets splinters in his ass from sitting on the fence.

It's also why I don't mind Chamblee.

Loved Johnny's knowledge and insight, could not STAND the way he spoke. It was fine when there were those "in the booth" back and forth conversational topics, but during the more rapid fire live commentary he would constantly have these little ticks/hiccups in the cadence of his speech that made it sound like his brain was lagging. Stressed me out. ?

Zinger is awful, speaks but says nothing, to me he likes to hear himself talk, good player does not equal good in the booth.

He was one of the greatest, if not the greatest.

Content is much more important than delivery. Truth can be hurtful and awkward, even offensive.

I can't stand the obsequious cheerleader style: "Geez, Rog.. ha ha ha, how 'bout these guys???!!! Unbelievable!" after a run of the mill 40-yd pitch.

Or whatever the hell Nantz is.

Miller is light years better than any current announcer and I can think of no one in the near future that could do the job as well as he did.
