DIY Button Back Paintfill

Inspired by BK going back to back with his T10 NP2, I decided to update my NP2 Button Back. I studied countless threads here on WRX about custom paintfill. So thanks to everyone here who has helped out. Here’s how it turned out.

Supplies- Acetone, Tamiya White X-2 and Clear Red X-27, lots and lots of toothpicks and q-tips.

Raw- A blank canvas, after stripping original paintfill using acetone, q-tips and toothpicks. I was tempted to leave it naked for a few rounds as it looked pretty awesome but nah had to push through.

Finished- Took about 10 days total. All toothpick painting and q-tip clean up. Only applied a thick single coat in each area. I did not reapply paint over dried paint. I would let paint dry for 72 hours min. And in some spots- the buttons mainly, I would allow a week to dry. Before cleaning up with acetone q-tip/toothpick. I know there are a couple spots/air bubble in the buttons but for my first attempt I liked it enough to leave it.

I know I’m not the first person to do this to their Button Back but it was a fun project and I’m pleased with how it turned out so I thought I’d share. It wouldn’t have been possible without the great WRX community sharing their experience.
