Clubs you really wanted, got, then hated!

So a few years ago i seen some pics of the new Vega VDC-01 1st proto irons, they looked gorgeous, raw black oxide finish, little to no offset, thin top line, shorter blade length, when they came out i think they were about £2000, well i'll wait till i find some on ebay.

 

After just missing out on a few sets over the years i finally got my hands on some, they arrived last Thursday, and.... i've never been so disappointing in my life, top line isnt that thin, offset is quite noticeable, blade length not the shortest, feel is ok, but not as soft as i was hoping, gutted! so after a day i put them on Ebay and gone back to my trusty TI Taylormade RSi TP's, wife wasnt particularly happy either lol

@a.princey....me too on the i500’s. But I have more....the TM r1 stunk for me. Wanted to love the Nike Vapor Fly fairways....nope. Wanted to love the TEE EXS fairway....nada. The list goes on and on. But I sure do love the chase.

Honma TW737V, Vizard IB105 X-Stiff. They look OK, just don't have the feel I was expecting. My current gamers are Epon AF302, SPB X-Stiff, so it was an uphill battle to begin with, but the Honma's aren't even close. So much so, I've only hit the 4 and 7 irons, didn't need to hit anything else. However, my TW737 445 Driver is money!

I got an Adams Tight Lies (original) 5wood when they first came out. I absolutely hated it. Usually, I take full blame for all my mishits, but this time, it was the club. It’s the only time I’ve ever returned a club.

Ping G410 irons for me. Loved the idea of a smaller game improvement iron, but the feel and sound of them on mis hits is not good.

Toulon Columbus putter, definitely not the clubs fault though. Wanted to be like the cool guys on tour and use an anser style with a rubber band grip. After putting 40+ times a couple rounds, I tried a super stroke switch. After another 20 heavy sighs, I’m going with spider x. I honestly can’t believe how much easier it makes putting for me

Adams MB2s, bought a set of heads and for one reason or another never assembled them, then fell out of love and sold them, only to fall back in love and buy them already assembled. Hit them and knew they weren’t for me, love the way they look still.

The Epon Personal 3's are probably the clubs I was most disappointed in. I was coming from the AF-302's, and the feel of the P3's was a huge letdown. I played well with them for a few months, but they just didn't have that typical soft feel that I was used to from Epon clubs.

Miura wedges. Still using one 56 k-grind, but honestly Miura only feels on the range mat. It's just not strong enough for the course, when compared to callaways and vokeys.

TM M drivers - good looking but dull.

And everything Honma tour series.

The original Adams Tight Lies 5w. I've never hated any other club. There have been a lot of clubs I've gotten that didn't end up matching my absurd hopes, or more commonly, I just couldn't hit well. That's always sad, but that's on me, not the club. I love golf clubs and still have a lot of the ones I'll never use. It's often been the case when I'll take one of them to the range. If I get one good shot out of it, then, it'll have been worth keeping.

The G400 crossover. I had high hopes for it and 1st time on the range it was just OK on the mat and I thought it will be great out on the course. Absolutely could not hit the thing to save my life. I took it on my golf trip to myrtle beach and I was at PGA superstore the first night looking to buy a hybrid. I couldn't find anything cheap enough and had to live with it the rest of the trip. It never got any better!

me too man...wanted to love it. And it looked great in the bag....real world not so much. The sweet spot was microscopic....for me anyways.

I like my G400 crossover but only off the tee. I can't hit it off the fairway. An Apex hybrid has displaced it. The hybrid is a lot more versatile. Never had any luck with hybrids and don't know if it's the club or my swing but the Apex hybrid goes straight for me.

The Z765 irons disappointed me. On paper, they are perfect for me. Couldn't hit them well and I got the set for a steal but had to sell them.

Mizuno 900 and 919 forged irons. Beautiful and forgiving irons with the worst turf interaction I have ever experienced in all of the iron sets i have played over the 40 years I have been playing. Hopefully, I will get this wrist brace off soon.....

Epon AF 903, both the UT and DI. Couldn't hit them worth a damn...

Ping i200. Bought JPX 900 Forged several years ago, but the i200 was a close second choice. Recently picked up a mint set of i200s and have played them a half dozen times. Look great in the bag. Definitely more forgiving, even poor swings turnout good. Hit 14 greens last time out. But they just feel blah. Probably keep them awhile, but taking the JPX out next time.

For me it was the Scratch EZ-1 irons. bigger than expected and not as nice and soft feeling as the reviews claimed.
