The fwy woods are just not good IMO. Way too shallow so vertical misses for players like me are terrible. I use a 3 wood mostly off the tee and Ping's (including the 410LST) got lapped by M6. I'd love to see them have an LST line of fwy woods that were deeper faced simliar to the rapture they put out that unfortunately was a spin machine

Yea. I can see that. But for me it’s opposite. I hate the deep faced ones off the deck. Much harder to elevate . But I’m pretty shallow so my miss isn’t vertical. It’s always toeside if anywhere.

See I hated the rapture. But yes. If they made both it wouldnt bother me.

Just goes to show you that different players like different things. I use my 3 wood a lot from the tee, but also from the fairway, and I'd fight anyone who tried to take my LST from me.

I’ve tried to kick mine out ts2 , m3 , m5 , cobra. Nope.

mand get this. Mine is an SFT head ( supposed to be draw bias) which is hotmelted neutral and I hit a dead reliable fade with. But can turn it over if I want. Most neutral club I ever owned. A ping rep shared this trick with me on the SFT head. So if anyone wants a neutral 4 wood , get aSFT head and have it hotmelted dead middle. Sits nice and flat for lie angle and does not want to go left. Consequently the ts2 and ts3 I had hit rope hooks all day. Could not consistently keep the toe from rolling shut. And I was trying to hit a fade.

That's an overly simplistic view. The TXG guys, and heck even Eric who did the podcast for Golf WRX this week, both have talked about how unique fairways are. A big part of it are how they are used. I fall into the category that I never use my 3 wood off the tee. I only hit it about 15-25 yards less than my driver and if the hole is tight I'll drop all the way down to hybrid (plus I like the bigger head of the driver for forgiveness). For me my 3 wood is almost always used to bomb it up to the green as close as possible on par 5's (when the risk-reward is worth it).

All that said... I'm a bit more negative angle of attack than normal and I'm frequently hitting the ball above the center line of my fairway wood even off the deck. The TXG guys just talked about this recently, in that some clubs handle your misses better than others. If you are very shallow and your miss on your fairways is a couple grooves low on the face you might love a fairway wood that I hate.

I love ping and I wanted to love the G410 fairways. That shallow face height is a problem for me, not only in how or where I miss it, but just looking down at it gives me confidence problems. I generally don't like Callaway gear but the Epic Flash fairways, with the taller faces, just worked better for me.

Perfect description. My miss would be thin as you said. And likewise why I prefer the shallow one. Thin miss on a deep face equals worm burner.

Exactly. Fairway woods, specifically talking 3 woods here are used WAY more often off the tee for better players than off the fairway. My 3 wood is really a limited distance driver with more accuracy for tight and or shorter holes. This year I really like 2 fairway woods, SIM Ti and Maverik SZ.

Yeah, that could be the case with today's materials but but they would feel better. I find the Taylormade Sim Max feels about 2 times better than my G410plus on good contact..

It's kinda like a year before they released the forged Blueprint irons, Marty was saying "we did cast and forged prototypes and blind tested them on tour pros and players and they couldn't feel the difference so as forging is a more expensive way to make irons, we will just stick to cast irons OK thanks bye" and then tour pros like Louie and Tony wanted a true forged blade and Ping released them. I have tested the Blueprints head to head with iBlade and they do feel very similar but I do still prefer the feel of the Blueprints and it also performs very well.

Agreed. I’ll buy the next Ping driver that’s released with a clean dome piece. Not picky with alignment aid, just don’t get silly. And color? Anything from their old gloss dark grey to matte black or anywhere in between. Clean it up and they can have my $499

Whenever Ping releases the LST version of its current driver model, it wins MyGolfSpy or TXG's driver of the year almost every time. I love Ping clubs, but play Mizuno irons. I will not play any other wood then Ping, they have mastered the art of constructing a long and forgiving driver.

I'm in the same boat. I bag the G400 LST driver and the G400 3 wood. I purchase Ping's newest LST model and 3 wood every other release cycle, so usually game them each for about 3-4 years depending on when I purchase them. I love testing other equipment, but nothing gives me close to the numbers and consistency I see with Ping woods.

Ping were the first to do carbon crown in the Rapture driver 15 years ago, just as they were the first to do adjustable woods for face angle and lie 20 years ago.
