I know Taylormade bought their tech. but who is making clubs like Adams used to?

Cobra has a new iron set out that looks fairly similar to what Adams used to do. It's called the Air Max I believe. That's probably the closest in terms of a progressive set that goes from hybrids to hollow irons to cavity backs.

I'm seeing a trend on here where guys are building their own sets using a mixture of iron styles from the same manufacturer to get a blended set that can be specked out individually.

Cleveland UHX, hollow mid and long irons, cavity back starts at 8. Reminds me of the A7OS I started golfing with, I'm thinking of trying out a set. All the current complete hollow sets seems to be to wide and fat in the scoring clubs.

Which clubs? Taylor Made bought Adams in 2014 for their velocity slot technology, which Adams introduced in 2011. By 2014 Adams used it on almost all woods and irons. The 2014 XTD, both cast and forged, were the last players irons Adams made. The XTD cross cavity cast irons were unique because they bonded a hot face to the cavity and supported it with an impact dampener supported by the "X". The developed a forged version of the cross cavity for Ernie Els that was never officially released. I think a few thousand forged sets were made, which can still be picked up new on eBay.

The first irons Taylor Made produced with the slot were the 2014 RS1. The slot is still used to some degree on all Taylor Made products including the 2020 P790 and SIM irons. The SIM irons "bridge" is very similar to the "Cross cavity". Also of note is the new Titleist T200 and T300, which support the face in a similar way.

I still play both XTD cast and tour. I just compared the XTD cast on the range to the SIM and Callaway Mavrik and Mavrik Pro. XTD's are just as long and longer than the pro. I prefer the XTD because the offset is less than the SIM, M5, Mavrik. FWIW -- The Maltby playability factor of the XTD cast is 799, which is super game improvement.
