Zac Blair stories

Zac is quickly becoming one of my favorite players to follow. His love for architecture and his unique club set up. I've listened to him on a few podcasts and he tells hysterical stories about playing in tour events and being mistaken for teenager, since he looks so young. Is there a previous thread about this?

I like his outside the box thinking, but his mythical club that he sells all the merch for is a little scammy. I appreciate him wanting to have a cool course, but using the idea to sell junk like every other instagram company is just annoying.

Is Merch a real word ? I recently heard it from my 11 year old and I corrected him . This shorthand speech for everything is getting out of hand.

 

As for Zach Blair ...what makes his setup unique ? If he wasn’t supplementing his income with Cameron putters I’d never have heard of him.

Plays decent on occasion. Bouncer between PGA and Korn Ferry. Seems if he would focus on golf instead of being trendy, he could do a little better at the golf side of things. Known for some of his on course antics. Like Steve Stricker or John Daly, but nowhere near as good as those guys at golf. Angry golfer Zac Blair learns a lesson after being disqualified

He used to be with Titleist and now he's without a sponsor. I like guys who go at it alone club wise. It's a mixed back of Miura and Titleist, TM.

EDIT: @bladehunter he appears to be talking about the course Blair is designing not his golf clubs (which is what I thought, also). It will be unusual if built.
He did play at least once in someone else's shoes he bought off eBay. Nicklaus once saw him in a hot tub and asked if his parents were around so maybe he's just now starting to mature, lol. These things are true.

Steve Stricker is known for his antics on the course?

I find him to be interesting. I sort of hope that his mythical golf club can get off the ground, as it seems like the kind of place that could be a really, really fun place to be. I don't see that happening without him finding somebody who has some very deep pockets, a lot of faith, and a decent group of people who are willing to sign up as "founding members" or something of that ilk. The stuff that he does with the various golf events around the country always look like a great time, as well as have some pretty cool venues as well. The merchandise side of the house always looks well done, but certainly doesn't jump out of the realm of being similar to a lot of other golf companies out there. Hopefully he can play well this year, because he's a lot of fun to watch on the course.

I knew his dad when I has a kid. A dominate Utah player. I actually beat him once in a USGA Junior qualifier. Once. Zac seems a lot like him.

Maybe the point of The Buck Club is that it's never supposed to be real? I dunno.

I think he wants it to be real. But as an old school golf only type place. No houses to sell on the fairways, no big clubhouse to have events at. Can you really build a course like that anymore?

I'm not sure that you can. There's also the "alternate holes" and "19th hole" that are on the plan, so I'm not sure that really adds to the appeal for a good portion of the people who are looking for a country club that is only going to be playable a limited number of months given the location (Utah). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I find it interesting, but had never thought about the fact that it was never really designed to have a big clubhouse and residential potential unless it could be added to an adjoining neighborhood but not even sure that works.

It is the millennial dream. I come up with a crazy idea that won't pay for itself, but it is cool, so you will fund it? Right? Ok, then I'll just sell the merchandise like it could be real and you can buy that then...

Why is that a bad thing? There are many successful businesses that were started with the simple idea that this needs to be done and we'll see where it goes.

I don't think it is bad, just odd that you sell golf course merchandise from a nonexistent course. I love the concept, but the execution is very odd to me. You see it on instagram all day with companies, but not many pro golfers go that route. Seems to take a ton of his time and energy, but obviously he is a talented golfer or he couldn't do it all. I like the guy's laid back style. A lot like Couples with a hint of snake oil I guess.

He's not doing it all. He has at least one guy (a friend of a friend) who runs the majority of the merchandise side of thing as well as doing the organization of the events such as 'The Ringer'. I have to imagine that move was so that he could focus less energy on the execution and more on the golf and finding those who have the money that will get him to that eventual dream of having the course be reality.
