Cleveland CBX 2 or Ping Glide 3.0 to go with Ping G700?

Looking to add a 54 and 58 wedge in graphite to my G700 iron set. Seems either are a good choice.

I was pretty surprised by how the cbx 2 performed in TXGs video, highest spinning wedge they've ever tested they said. And nice traditional looks from address. I might look for these when the time comes.

I was in the same debate between glide 3.0 and CBX2. I ended up ordering both in 54 degree and I’ll return the one I like less. I’ll report back in a couple weeks when I have them both.

When I had my G700's I had the PW and UW and I paired it with the CBX 56 and 60*.

I then bought Glide 2.0 Stealth wedges 56 and 60 and ended up selling those and went back to the CBXs.

I am a short hitter and play to around a 8-10 cap from the white tees. For me I like help in my irons and wedges. the G700's provided the help but to me the Glide wedges are pretty much a player's type wedge.

The CBXs felt more like an extension of my G700 irons especially on full shots. And I find them great for around the green too. I use the 60* as my primary chipping club.

Sounds like the Glide 3.0 is what I want. Current wedges are 56 and 60 Cleveland RTX4

Picked up CBX2 54 & 58 to try out. Swapped out the shafts for Nippon Modus 105 Wedge shafts with some ProSoft inserts and they really feel excellent.

Only hit them off mats so far so sole/turf interaction is yet to be determined.

CBX2 wedges have V sole in the lower lofts, S grind in the SW and C grind in the LW.

Picked up the original CBX in 50* and had it bent to 48* to try to see how it compares to the G700 UW.

Set this year will either be TaylorMade P790 5-AW with 54SS & 58SS Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth

-or-

Ping G700 5-PW with UW & SW likely replaced with the CBX 50, CBX2 54 & 58.

Played the P790’s with the Glides for the 2nd half of last season and really enjoyed them and hit them well but I have a bad habit of buying stuff in the winter when I can’t play here in Michigan.

After thinking more over the weekend, it may make most sense both from a pocket book and consistency to go with an RTX4 52 degree wedge. No need to get rid of the 56 and 60, consistent wedge set and the gap between the 49 degree G700 and 52 degree RTX 52 will be reasonable. Then, the 56 and 60 will follow the 52. I can either pull my 7 wood or 4H depending on the course to keep the set at 14 clubs then.

So you can see my update in my other thread "Ping Glide 3.0 vs CBX2." Long story short I went with the Glide 3.0 because the CBX2 never shipped and I got impatient and cancelled the order.

I found the CBX 54 wedge easier on full shots and out of bunkers that the G700 SW ... I always use the set GW/UW myself (which I also did with my PXG 0211s). I am not sold on the CBX 58 though ... sticking with a Glide SS 60 for now ... seems better for short chips and flops.

I picked up a very lightly used RTX4 52 degree for $55. This makes my wedges all RTX4 at 52, 56 and 60.

Related topic without starting a new thread...

I've got a Ping 2.0 54 currently. I like it on full shots and when I have some grass under the ball for chip shots. A lesson is needed post lockdown, but I'm struggling on partial wedges, those touchy 40-50 yard pitches off of tight lights.

Would the wider sole of the CBX 2 be of help for this type of shot? Leading edge on my Ping seems to dig with said pitch shots and if I try to open up the club face, the bounce is hitting the ground first causing a chunk/coming up short.
